  • Does no plow really mean no plow no plow FALL FOOD PLOTS
    fall food plots for deer have a great way of attracting deer. picking the right seed is critical. when you see seeds that say no plow does not mean you cant do anything. you still have to get down to bare dirt. and being able to plow is the best best. most the time these seeds can grow in bad areas and in areas that does not get alot of sun. but you still have to do what you can to get to bare soil

    Love the video, I have 18 acres, mostly swamp, but I have 3 plots now. They are sma;; ones but I have increased the deer activity 3 fold. I have videos, swamp plotter, on putting in the last one. I will put final results video up soon. You are right, if you want to see more deer than roll your sleeves up and put a plot in. Plus I always put apple, crabapple trees on the edges. I just planted 3 chestnut and 5 osk trees this fall. i feel that any effort you put in will definatly help the cause.

    Thank you for videos!!!! Do you soil teast for adding lime as well? I usually herbacide, wait for plot to be dead, lime, pray for rain, then fertilize, till and apply seed ( around mid May to late May) with legumes, cow peas and clover for late spring plot application to produce in early summer. Does this sound like proper procedure? I did a spring plot also with clover and oats that i planted in late winter. The crop was abundant but honestly the deer did'n't seem as interested in that crop as they are in the early summer plot. This is only my 2nd year tring to learn this. I live in East Texas and appreciate any tips. :)

    • @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
      @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors  Pƙed 4 lety +2

      I typically don’t use herbicides. I’ll soil test late winter and add the proper lime. End of may I’ll disc and plant and fertilize. I typically plant annuals in the spring and summer. When I plant for the fall I’ll take what’s there and just disc it in and plant. Usually wheat oats and rye and some brassicas

      After the year I had last year, I just want to try to put the odds in my favor, I know a lot of hunting tricks to get deer to come my way, just didn't feel like doing any of them. I'm 50 pounds lighter this year and think putting in the foodplots and going completely scent free this year, bought all new scent-lok clothes, just hoping for the best, seems like after I limited out 3 yrs ago, been bad luck since, I had a guy shoot a nice 8 pointer last year it barely made it to me and the guy hollored out and asked me to shoot it for him because he was out of bullets.

      I like to bush hog natural vegetation over the rocks and then plant cereal rye like you said along with crimson clover. I let the natural vegetation create organic matter for a couple of summers and then I start bringing in buckwheat and controlling unwanted weeds. Then you get into a nice rotation of rye and buckwheat which both can choke out weeds. I then add whatever seeds I want and only bush hog the previous crop over the seed. If I have good soft soil of course I still disk. I can't quite give up the old fashioned methods.

    • @frankpatton5844
      @frankpatton5844 Pƙed 6 lety +1

      I can't bush hog, this is on a oak flat on a hillside, it's 11feet wide by 18yds long,that is why I'm trying to rough the rocky soil up as much as I can, then spread my seed and cover it with and miracle grow garden soil, I bought 4 - 42lb bags of miracle grow garden soil, to try to give the seed the best I can, I spread 50 lbs of 10-10-10 fertilizer and 50 lbs of pelletized lime,the soil ph was 6.3...I'm trying to do the best I can with a rocky hillside here in northeast kentucky, anyway, thank you for your input,it is greatly appreciated...

      @jeremysilcox9362 Pƙed 6 lety

      Frank that does limit you. I didn't realize the size and location of it. Just my.02 cents I would get some cereal rye to overseed anywhere it does not germinate year one. It will germinate in lower temps than other cereal grains and will grow in the cracks between rocks and where it can get close to soil. I have it made this year. One area I hunt there is 0 location I can plant. The other spot has fields that have been limed and fertilized for years with 5 acre and 11 acre food plots along with two 1/4th acre kill plots. That is on 100 acres. I'm use to having to do hard work just to get a plot in.
