  • Dragoon Mountains - Free Dispersed Camping/Boondocking Coronado National Forest - Arizona - I spent a week in the Dragoon Mountains which is part of the Coronado National Forest. This spot is situated approximately 12 miles from Tombstone Arizona, which afforded me the opportunity to visit the OK Corral and witness the re-enactment of the OK Corral shootout. While exploring the Dragoon's, I got to hike out to the Council Rocks and explore that historical spot. Dragoon Mountains was an great spot to dispersed camp with lots of history surrounding the area to include the Apache Cochise stronghold. Thanks for watching folks!

    I've been to the campground and the trailhead at the east end of the Stronghold a few times and I love the area. I had never even heard of the Council Rocks or the Slavin Trail -- both very cool places. I'm not an Arizona native, though. Just a "snowbird" with a winter condo. Been coming out here 12 years now -- before that I'd fly in to spend a week with my parents, but now I drive cross county back and forth from Indiana in the early spring and late fall. I take my time and that's when I do plenty of low cost or free camping. About 5 years ago I swung down further south into northern Arkansas and I became hooked on that area, too. That's why your videos are so interesting and helpful to me. They can't mine in Tombstone anymore so they milk that history for all it's worth. I wouldn't mind seeing the historic Courthouse one more time but the town is just too touristy and crowded for me to want go back to again. Thanks for the cool video, Mark. I never fail to learn something.

    • @DispersedCamperMan
      @DispersedCamperMan  Před 3 lety

      Thanks Rick! Most folks don't know Arkansas has lots to offer with it's Ozark/Ouachita National Forests. I love camping there. During the show in Tombstone, they said they mined silver which put the town on the map. Then the silver mine's flooded with water which stopped them from mining. Tombstone is considered a town that can't die. LOL When I was there on a weekday, it wasn't very crowded at all. If it was, I probably would have left for sure.

      @@DispersedCamperMan Thanks Mark. We forgot about that one. We have a class 5 receiver in both front and rear. We use them for the slide in winch when needed (remember the video you did on your winch). We think we will go with a front mount and a smaller bike, probably the Honda Trail 125. We met a TC camper that had a small Harbor Freight slide in winch they mounted on the carrier to winch the bike up without utilizing the bikes engine (safer as you say) and then removed the winch when loaded. We like those saddle bags, plenty of room for a sammich or two. Safe Travels and Happy Trails. Thanks again.

    Thank you Mark for another thoroughly enjoyable episode of Dispersed Camper Man! I watch them on a regular basis - I done dispersed camping for over two years and thought I knew some things, but you have such a knack and knowledge base - it's been a big help for me to learn how to really do dispersed camping.
    I'd like to ask if you could do a video on your set up, especially the vehicle you've chosen and the camper body - the pros and cons. If you've already done one, could you mention which one it is? My big question is moving from van living (I have a Promaster) to a vehicle like yours which will get me into more dispersed spots without some of the difficulties with a van. Thanks OBrien! I try not to make my videos about me, I try and keep it about the destination. The videos will start to get boring if I start talking about me. LOL Also, when I talk about my equipment, the trolls start coming out in droves telling me how I'm doing it all wrong and how I should be doing it. The only thing I've done to my truck is rear Firestone Airbags to keep it level. I also keep up with scheduled maintenance on my truck like clock work. Thanks for watching!

    ha, the apache gang would hide out in those rocks and get drunk waiting for the Butterfield stage coach that would come thru regularly and ambush it. they were highly successful at it. the "thing" is supposedly one of the grand canyon cave dwellers from ancient history. pretty cool. peace

    Question did you insulate your camper recently? We noticed when you had the Drone up that it's silver top now. Is there a reason for this.

      My roof is metal, it was the way it was built, it's not the rubber type that most RV's have. Having a metal roof pretty much will last forever. Less chance of punching holes in it also.

    Love the video! Great photography, good commentary, just a bit repetitive on a few things. This is great info and a fascinating topic! Everyone seems to want to boondock nowadays. Don’t you get lonely?

    • @DispersedCamperMan
      @DispersedCamperMan  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Laura. I rarely get lonely, I have a motorcycle :-) I'm repetitive on some things in my videos due to CZcams converting my speech to closed caption you can see on the video. When CZcams does this, they use my spoken words to assist with its CZcams Search algorithm. This means, it helps my videos show up higher in listings when someone searches for a specific word or phrase. You can also see me repeating certain words in my Video title and video description. It works! You just found my Channel! Thanks for subscribing!

    If you were to do it over would you choose the same rig if not what would you do and why? Thanks and great videos.

    • @DispersedCamperMan
      @DispersedCamperMan  Před 3 lety +2

      I would have chosen the same rig. I have a 2011 Ford F250 3/4 ton with a 6.7 engine and have no issues with it. I bought it almost 6 years ago and it had 30K miles on it. It now has almost 150,000 miles on it and it hasn't never left me stranded. I do though, keep up with the scheduled maintenance on it like clock work. That being said, my next truck, many years down the road will probably be a F350 1 ton. The F350 has the exact same engine and the F250, but the F350 does have a more beefier suspension and hauling capability. My next truck camper, many years down the road, will be a Lance, with a slide out. I think I would like a slide out, since it would give me a little more room on the inside.

    Am I the only one that would be thinking more about SNAKES then rocks?? I don't like Snakes

    • @DispersedCamperMan
      @DispersedCamperMan  Před 3 lety

      Believe it or not, snakes are not out to bite you. The only time they'll bite you is if you give them a reason to. Majority of snake bites come from people trying to kill the snake, or capture the snake. If someone was trying to kill you or kidnap you, what would you do? Don't let fear control your life.
