I was there in the crowd. After so many hours standing up, felt really tired and almost dehydrated, when the first notes of Count of Tuscany started to kick in, it was almost 2:00 in the morning, and it made all the effort to endure the long night of concert worthwhile (Sepultura, Gojira and Iron Maiden performed before Dream Theater). It was my first ever Dream Theater concert and I will never forget how hypnotic John Petrucci sounds live. They are so amazing.
John Petrucci's guitar playing here is pure genius.
As it always is for sure.
well the cult worship aside, is there a lesser or impure genius? around?
Hi john
He's a super cool guy, too.
Work work work work
The solo at the end of the Count of Tuscany is just.....wow.
Dream theater=best band in the world
if the drummer is Portnoy
@@midpupposIII i wanted to say that in the way they master music, technic and their instruments. Certainly the best band of all time on this point. Do you see any other candidates ?
@niezam_mz4465 oh ffs, give it a rest already🙄
absolutely ...
Labrie sounds awful
*"The Count of Tuscany"* is definitely the most beautiful DT song from all of the modern albums and I don't think a single song has come close since the post-Portnoy era.
Yeah and last album with Portnoy. Also the last song of the Black Clouds & Silver Linings album I think
I agree mostly. Illumination Theory I think is a great DT epic post Portnoy. Also Breaking All Illusions
Since Portnoy left, the band hasn't been the same, a few odd moments but not in the same league.
@@PatKennedydon It's probably because Manjini hasn't been utilised enough because Jordan and JP need that third wheel for the full musical side of it.
Who is the count based upon? Was he real?
This band has something for almost everyone. Enough metal edge for the rocker, enough quality guitar to make Van Halen fans drool, enough innovative use of keyboards for the Kansas, Styx, Mahogany Rush, enthusiast, and a moving baseline and clear, concise and interesting vocals/lyrics-for the Rush lover.
No bleghs
Hi james
Van Halen fans drool because they have mental issues about what a great guitarist is...
no one listens to Rush for the vocals
Exactly! Back in ‘92 I used to tell anyone who would listen that it was like Yngwie meets Rush…
That note at 13:45 simply gets me every time. I'd be nervous I'd miss the harmonic. Amazing
Yeah 🌚
This Song Is astonishing
No you wouldn't. If you miss harmonic, just don't step the volume button. Re-try then volume it up ;)
Same aha 😂
pretty easy to hit compared to a pinch harmonic. You just need to be right over the fret. But yeah still happens..
EVERYTIME Petrucci hits these first intro notes I get chills. Everytime. This guy is a f` genius.
PETRUCCI IS CLASSICALY
TRAINED GUITARIST 👌
Everything you need to know about Dream Theater lies in these fractions of seconds in the eyes of this girl [00:35 - 00:42], whose emotions will not leave almost anyone indifferent. And it’s truly fucking magical and heartbreaking.
and she says " OMG, this is my song!" beautiful moment...
Yeah, I was lucky to experience this during a live show. This song is very special.
It's a shame the singing is so bad. No offence to James but he should step down and retire with dignity.
....muah....I see only Pink Floyd T-shirt
She's shaking knowing it will be a brief magical moment but well worth all the pain in life!
I like how the beginning of the atmospheric middle part has completely different chords and melody than the studio version. Makes it really special.
It was Rhapsody In Blue by Gershwin
@@DannyMiami09 that part of the LTE cover did remind me of CoT
Yes. Also Labrie's vocals in the chorus. Hits different!
ah i see, thats why it sounds like from LTE ver
Thanks Dream theatre to be part most of my life
Im so glad i broadened my horizons musically otherwise i would have never heard this greatness
That insert of Gershwin's Rhapsody in blue... divine!
You should check out liquid tension with John Petrucci. They do a 14 minute version of the song.
so lucky Growing up and living in the era of dream theater, witnessing this great show was the best moment of my life... ❤ ❤❤ solo, manahan 10 august 2022, jakarta, & Ancol ecopark 12 mei 2023 ❤❤❤
Same, bro. I saw them in Solo as well. Finally after 25 years 🥰
What a massive mind blowing performance ..these guys should be equally credited..kings of their instruments..how do they do it..
James' vocals now are like one of those "SHREDZ" videos.
No like vocal
HAHA. And to think he was accused of lip syncing! I love the band immensely and hold no ill will against the man but there are four unparalleled geniuses of musical performance up there-- and then him. At least bring him down in the mix! He's way out front here.
Its a real shame whats happened to his voice; he gave everything for so many years...no shame to step down and let a youngun take over, at least on the live shows.
@@danielmcampbell297 Honestly at this point he should do lip syncing because he singing completely ruins the song. He sounds like he's drowning in water, he's always out of breath and is crying like an old man about to die.
Imagine how bad it was live before editing and pitch corrections!
It's amazing to see sooo many Brazilian women enjoying DT live!!!
Brazil is largely into rock. One of the few nations left that highly enjoys it and pays for it.
And enjoying DP, too!
Brazilian audience also SINGS THE SONGS during the show
and still, this is the most quiet crowd in rock in rio ive ever seen - thanks to Mr. Labrie
@@mirzasalkic2617 I think I know why you are saying this but just to confirm, why?
Petrucci's tone is incredible, especially on the intro to Pull Me Under
man just never misses a note, it's like hes a machine
These guys are such talented musicians. Who else reads the music while their playing these days? Every song, for each musician of the band, is one-long-assed-solo! No simple 1-4-5 chord progressions here!
Always knew of DT but never paid much attention to them….then I heard Count around 6-7 years ago and as a guitar player I was hooked and have been since. I learned it on guitar-took me a month!! But was an amazing introduction into the greatness of this band. Have since seen them multiple times live and have attended JP’s guitar camp 1.0 which was an incredible experience and haven’t looked back-great band, pre-Mangini and post-Portnoy. JP is the nicest guy you’ll ever meet.
@@mrtoy875 I broke it down into sections and practiced every section until fluid then put them all together--certainly a challenge. Stay on it!
The opening clean intro is not that hard... I took a single week to learn that clean intro and solo part... Played on my acoustic... Trust me I cried when I plugged my acoustic with a simple chorus pedal... It's heavenly sounding...
Im always in tears with this song everytime for a thousand time now
me too man
My Ringtone is The Count of Tuscany.... only an example how much I love this Band and this song... I cried for the entire performance...... Love DT....
What a masterpiece The Count Of Tuscany is! I get chills watching this.
The Count of Tuscany bring to tears every time I´ve listened to it¡ Amazing show¡
Brazil has such great fans. If I was in a band I would only want to play in Brazil. Greetings from America.
@Leif Turtleson, kind of hard to see somoene from USA speaking positive stuff about Brazil lol, cheers mate
North or South america?
Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile, also Mexico. I hope someday to go to a rock show in any of these places. It's always so cool to see how expressive those audiences are with their appreciation.
It's great to see the crowd enjoying the show without recording it 😀
Too busy focusing on the hands to record :D ...... James Labrie is struggling to sing this stuff now though tbh, he's letting down the band
I remember several years ago I attended a concert and at the start they announced that you didn't need to record the show because they were recording it and everyone that attended would be able to buy a downloadable copy immediately after. The price was really reasonable too, was only like $10 or $20, and it was of course really good quality. Unfortunately it seems that didn't catch on.
@@andrewawakened628 was at a show where LaBrie said to go ahead and take some clips but try to just enjoy the live show.
When I went to take a clip, some usher came up and told me to turn it off. Told him what LaBrie said and he gave me some crap about someone in the audience complained.
I said who? He replied, someone. Riiight, I said and finished my clip.
I get the bootleg issues but come on. I pay my way and my phone was on my lap in the balcony front on low light.
Mind your own damned business.
Maybe they had their phones stolen since that's in Brasil
@@Johnny_0706 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've seen JAMES at the beginning of 2022 in Vienna and the vocals were FLAWLESS!
His performances can be very different from day to day. With all the things in mind that happened to him in the past, it's astonishing that he manged to sing again and especially to sing still with his age.
STOP THE FUCKIN hate. It's his and the Bands decision if he keeps on performing or not.
ITS A SHAME that people really want to BOOOO him out of the band. Some people don't get it that their keyboard warrior behavior is online mobbing on the highest level. Would you be happy if you LOOSE YOUR JOB because of some internet-peoples opinions? Sure not!
This song is majestic and mystical😥
As a vocalist, i do appreciate what James tried to reach the high pitch.
Thanks alot, mr. LaBrie dan DT guys.
Every live perform .... James vocal as always in the screem part
Miss portnoy groove, mangini is like a machine
Count of Tuscany is simply beautiful music by great musicians. Support Live Music!
I simply can't liken them to any other musician/band on the planet....by all means....this is pure magic!
Great performance. Love the small inclusion of " Rhapsody In Blue " during John's solo segment in " The Count Of Tuscany. "
Yeah, I noticed that aswell!
Same here and I listened to Disc 1 of 'Liquid Tension Experiment 3' just today therefore it immediately struck me!
Yep . they started recording BCSL right after the 2008 LTE Tour in which this track was Covered live . so it is definetly an inspiration
DT should do like Weezer and do cover albums, and not only the same recipe over and over.
Always loved their sound and each record as its jewel but since Dave departure mostly 80% of it feels like taking te piss
@@bachwildoat9324 Who's Dave?
Gracias dream theater, todavía existen músicos de verdad 👍
15:20 Most uplifting part in the history!
Thats it Mike Mangini is my favorite drummer! Hands down. I appreciate that he respects Mike Portnoys Drum parts in Pull Me Under. The man deserves respect! 🙌🏻
But why do the drums sound muffled like that. It's a disgraceful for this great drummer
i agree with you. But mike portnoy is top player.
@Toni_560 it's not Mangini's fault. This mix sucks ass unfortunately.
I don’t understand why they don’t just play the old material in Eb so it’s more comfortable for James, a lot of bands do it with much younger singers. There’s no shame on doing that and it would sound much better.
They did for recent images and words tour
Helloween?? Kiske??? noooooooooo .
At this point, I wouldn't even be opposed to them just auto-tuning James for live performances.
Seems like he's not singing the low notes that well either. I think his voice just can't stand up to a long tour anymore.
That's some damn perfect tone right there.
for the tone deaf
Stunned..Pure magic. How did I not know they existed!?
This song is a part of music history!
Perfect song!
Everything is perfect!
DREAM THEATER is almost part of my life. So, NO DREAM THEATER, NO LIFE!
IN MY TOP 5 SONGS EVER MADE, SOOOOOOOOOOO GREAT.
Lyrics are absolute trash though lol - "I'm scared!" "Don't be man" "Oh ok"
James has a great studio voice but has a really hard time pulling it off live. The Band always sounds great.
Also doesn't help that there's like zero compression or reverb and barely any gain on his voice here which, considering every other instrument does, it makes his voice just sound weaker by default in comparison to the rest of the band.
@@TheBlackQueen Agree. I do a little FOH engineering and was surprised at the mix. The older we get the high register vocal chords just don't last........ but the vocal mix was dry. In any case, great performance.
There's no need to reiterate it everytime
age matters. Nobody actually expected them to play Pull Me Under regarding the vocals. But LaBrie didn"t want to dissapoint their fans. Respect for that.
TOTALLY AGREE! he sounds like shit on pull me under!
Finally a well deserved count of Tuscany video after all these years
Finally good footage of this song live. This is my favorite DT song. I would littery feel like the girl crying when Petrucci starts the first solo if I had been there. This song spiritually moves me like no other song ever.
that looked embarrassing asf! the camera man even died, they had to replace him.
Littery
It's a shame the singing is so bad. No offence to James but he should step down and retire with dignity.
🤟respect for the masters of music of the beautiful emotions of the right feelings. thanks Dream Theater 🤘
Dude, this tour, closing with the count of tuscany, dude
They closed the show with it in Australia about 2016 or so, i nearly died!!!!!
LO MEJOR ES INSTRUMENTAL!! COMO LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT.
Labrie's voice is toast . . .
It's like brie cheese 🧀
This is Rock In Rio😂😂😂 Many singers sing so bad on this Festival. Maybe bad monitoring... Listen Angra 2011Rock in Rio, Sebastian Bach Rock in Rio 2011 (or 2012) Angra absolutely win. 😂😂😂
czcams.com/video/5mYQAMAentc/video.html
Horrible
He's a good singer but he's the only human in the band. The rest are clearly cyborgs with infinite musical ability.
Super performance as usual from the GOAT team, love you forever Dream Theater.
Too many gods in this band.. Superb!!
MAGNIFIQUE ! un des meilleurs groupe du monde ...
I love dream theater! One of my favorites
Damn! It breaks my heart to watch James sing like this, I understand age is taking over his voice and its not easy to sing those high notes anymore, I have watched him sing live in his 'better' days. This just feels miserable.
He should consider retirement, the other guys sound on point, he is just messing up their flawless hard work, it is hard to accept it but its true
I would love this band if he would just ....not sing. The music is top teir talent at its finest.
@@timlassabe890 same here bro
I saw them when they first got back on tour again after COVID and James sounded really good probably from having time off to rest but now he sounds really strained and tired again. It's sad to see because he was a beast in his prime
It can’t be easy for him, knowing he doesn’t have the same vocal ability as he did when he was younger. But it wouldn’t be Dream Theater without him, regardless of singing ability.
what a great stage, great videos, great sound. it's like a theater of dream \m/
WOW!! James has REALLY been practicing!!! 24:40
I wouldn't have thought a song like this would have gone over at a large festival. DT certainly has a large following in Latin America.
Wow..this is super amazing..love it! Great show! DT forever...
Much better mix than Live at Luna Park. We can actually hear John Myung's bass here.
To me the mix is horrible. Only the guitar, the bass and the keyboard can be heard clearly. Drums are too quiet and the bass drum is inaudible. Labries microphone sounds like it's at 20% gain and it's very quiet as well. No high frequencies are there, they're all drowned, I don't believe that even raw microphone recording can sound that horrible. Plus no compression on Labrie, so it sounds like he stops singing and his voice falls into silence when it cleary doesn't.
Luna park definitely wasn't their best mix, but come on, this is even worse than wacken 2015.
Give us this amazing footage with normal sound like distant memories, score or BTFW...
P.S. it's possible that they'll take this recording and make some sort of Lost not Forgotten bootleg out of it that will sound well. That would be nice.
@@linuxuser2142 Yeah the compression is missing
But i'm glad I finally hear a Performance of labrie again that isn't autotuned
@@zauberer9687 are you sure that a non-autotuned performance is a benefit? :$
@@linuxuser2142 Sadly, LaBrie can't sing anymore, so it was okay that he was lower in the mix.
@@linuxuser2142 for me, yes
Because i can't stand that artificial Sound LaBrie has on Breaking the fourth wall & Distant Memories
Remember this album (and song in particular) really restoring my faith in the band! Saw this performed live a the 'Thebarton Theater' live in Adelaide South Australia with Portnoy. Changed my life for ever, what an incredible display of musicianship!!! So glad to see Mike Portnoy back in the line up & cant wait for the new material. 🙌 Hail from Australia, & we all love ya!
I flew 1500km to see them in Adelaide in 2008. They played in a tin shed at the showgrounds, so the acoustics were absolute dogshit. Neither gold nor silver tickets sold out, so you had a fairly small crowd that was then split in half (front and back) with empty floor and a fence between them. I couldn't find the bar. My friend fell ill and ghosted me during the intermission.
But the intermission ended with the beginning of Metropolis Pt1, followed by six consecutive tracks from Metropolis Pt2, and I had the time of my fucking life.
0:38 -> "Is that The Count of Tuscany?!?!?!?!?! OMG!!!!! I'm crying now!"
Mernurut saya ..dream theater sejauh ini adalah grub band terbaik sepanjang masa.. dengan progesive metalnya
Yoi 🎉
Ya benar, dengan tempo bunyi yg complex kayak mendengar matematika, band yg genius.

a great song from a great band!!!
An amazing performance. John's guitar sound on Pull Me Under was amazing. James' stage presentation was exceptional but I hate it when he shrieks. What an amazing crowd.
His tone in the upper registers and intonation in live performances really bothers me. ☹️

The Count of Tuscany makes me feel like standing upon the field of Tuscany in Italy!! I just visited the Italy just one time but, I remember the atmosphere n feeling in Italy through this great song and player!!
Been listening to DT since '92. Amazing band no matter who is in it. James is older and been singing forever. He will never sound the same but loyalty still means something to some people (kudos to Petrucci). My favorite band and always will be!!
Why?
the best heaviest longest emo interlude and solo for me in this album of black clouds and silver linings.
