    Lambretta LI125 , S3 ,1963 Project (Part 4) Engine Rebuild, Fitting New Crank Bearings 🛵🔧
    Hi welcome to another Mend It Man video, in this video I’m back on the Lambretta project continuing with the engine rebuild, I now have a freshly vapour blasted engine casing ready for new bearings to be fitted. In this video I fit the new crank bearings and seals, it doesn’t all go to plan so I have to improvise to get the job done ( it does involve a big hammer 😬 ) .To see how I do this please watch. Hope you enjoy the video. Thanks for watching 🙂👍

    Please Subscribe to my channel - I have lots of machines which means going forward I will never be short of content, lots of my videos are small engine related but I do have bigger vehicles to which I also like to work on and improve.
    JUST TO NAME SOME-
    2x Land Rover Defenders, Subaru Impreza WRX Turbo Wagon, VW T4 Transporter, Ford Transit Campervan.
    5x Puch Maxi Mopeds, a Lambretta Scooter, a Yamaha MX100 motorcycle.
    Also lots and lots of garden power equipment. All this will give me years and years of content, so with all that it makes my channel well worth Subscribing to 😀
    A bit about me I grew up around engine’s as my dad was always a car mechanic and that’s how I learnt about them and liked working on engine’s. As the years have gone on my passion for working on engines has grown even more, unfortunately for me my dad slowed down working on cars when I was around 20 in the 90s, So the career I always thought I would have didn’t materialise and I become a gardener, but what do gardeners use? Power tools so that’s when I learnt all about power tools small engine, 80% of my work tools Mowers, Strimmers, Hedge Trimmers, Blowers were bought secondhand and most of them broken and I fixed them up. Most have been high end tools, Honda, Stihl, Kubota, Kawasaki, Husqvarna etc etc the list goes on I’ve worked on loads and usually managed to fix tools that were destined for the scrap heap. I have learnt so much and I pass a massive amount of that on in my videos, so watching my video could save you a small fortune in repair bills, so another great reason to subscribe to my channel.
    Going forward I have plans to faze out my day job and work with the engine stuff much, much more that’s my dream, I also like restoring machines as well. So I’m always adding more and more tools to help me along the way. So the more support I have on CZcams means that my dream may come sooner than I think it will 🤞 I’ll do my bit with the video if you can do your bit to help it could be a great journey forward, thank you for watching my channel I massively appreciate it 🙂👍

      My channel is all about improvising, I’m showing people the job can be done without the need for proper tools, much like back in the day. I agree special tools are good, but I’m not buying them to use just once. I will though be investing in a bearing press in 2022. 🙂👍

    The vapour blasting did a great job, parts came up really well. I don’t have a torque wrench, I just have the verbal click! I really should get one. Can’t wait for the next part of the series

    Out of curiosity, can the bearings be pressed in without heating/cooling using a hydraulic press?

    • @menditman2004
      @menditman2004  Před rokem

      Yes they probably could if you can set the casing up so they can be pressed in even, heating cooling doesn’t always work that well for me, thanks for watching 🙂👍

    Those crank bearings are no fun. I've had good luck spraying that frozen bearing with WD-40. I seems to lube the bearing race as well as mitigate the condensation after coming out of the freezer. With your new pressure gauge, you can easily test for leaks on that case.

    • @menditman2004
      @menditman2004  Před 2 lety

      Hi I knew I had little to no chance of the bearings slipping in, I knew it was going to be a bigger hammer job 😬 but it’s how it was done back in the day when people had no money and needed there scooter fixed. Good idea with the WD40 I’ll remember that 🙂👍

  • @fixitorstripitGardenmachines

    Every thing was a tight fit which is great. Did you find out if the torque wrench was working. That vapour blasting did a fab job to. Catch you in the next installment.

    • @menditman2004
      @menditman2004  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Neil, I think it was working but I think it was me wanting to go tighter, anyway they were tight after I’d finished with them 😂 I love the look of the engine casings after vapour blasting, the person I use is local and reasonably priced it well worth doing on these old classics. Thanks for watching 🙂👍
