- Lisa Gade reviews the 2016 Razer Blade, a 14” gaming laptop with the power of a much larger machine. It's clad in a stealthy aluminum matte black that you could take into a meeting, and weighs just 4.3 lbs. (1.95 kg). For 2016 Razer lowers the price, updates the CPU to 6th gen Intel Skylake, improves cooling, tweaks the Chroma keyboard, uses a more legible keyboard font.

The 0.7” thick laptop is great for pro apps and gaming. It runs Windows 10 on the Intel Core i7-6700HQ quad core, 45 watt CPU with Intel HD 530 graphics switchable with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M 6GB DDR5 graphics via NVIDIA Optimus. It has 16 gigs of DDR4 RAM and your choice of a 256 or 512 gig PCIe NVMe SSD. It has what might be described as the world’s most entertaining notebook keyboard thanks to Chroma backlighting and many available effects with infinite color choice. Excellent Killer Wireless AC WiFi with Bluetooth, a 2MP webcam and a very compact charger are standard. It starts at $1,999. - Věda a technologie
WOW! CZcams stopped pushing me your videos years ago and I kind of forgot about you. Glad you're still making great, highly informative videos.
I used to hate razer laptops but this is an exception. $2,000 is really not that bad, considering the specs and the aesthetics of it.
I think it's priced all right. Of course we always want to pay less for more, and this is a lot of overkill for just browsing the web and editing documents: but for mobile gaming, it's great!
Costs 3000 EUROS here in Norway :(
I have an Acer Aspire V Nitro 15in, I thought i would regret it (since it is acer) but I love it. I can play every game with 60+ fps. (some very intensive games run slower but never under 30fps). Its an intel i7 turbo boost to 4.2ghz and a nvidia 980m
+THBOffical How much was it?
TheAbeham 1.2k, but you can buy it for around $999 now.
LOL props Lisa for saying "let's see how stealthy I can be" holding a LMG and one of the loudest guns in the game.
thanks lisa for your indepth review content especially the artists content creation angle that other reviewers seem to miss....color and contrast are everything in makin a purchase for me and i have been really confused about displays until i found your channel
Great review! Ive waited especially for this one by you lisa! Really answered a lot of questions
Everyone always thinks every manufacturer copies Apple product design. So apparently Apple has copyrights on any and every design of all electronics. SMH
Well, no, they cannot simply copyright any and all innovative designs. But this particular laptop design does, in fact, get copied a lot. And Apple did invent it. Apple, on their part, were inspired by designs of the German "Braun" brand (manufactrurer of household appliances and electronics). Look it up. It's a fascinating part of product design history.
They say the Dell, HP, Acer, etc have also stolen from Apple. Apple is really good at stealing or being "inspired" by other people's concepts and quickly running to the patent office before people get wind of it and saying they invented something that had already been in existence. They're good at possibly perfecting an idea and that's about it. I'm getting really sick and tired of all the Apple comparisons to my non-Apple products, from laptops to smart phones. Enough already. People want Apple products to be the only electronics people should own.
+ladyvee7110 You speak truth sir.
***** but he was speaking truth about how Apple is quick to steal designs and patent something another manufacturer created and throw their own little logo on it and call it their own but yeah apple innovated once in history and yes other manufacturers have been inspired by apple but dont act like apple does the same shit + more
god
Lisa I love your reviews! You really know your shit. you are always my first stop if i want to learn about a product as long as you have reviewed it. Keep up the awesome work.
I have watched a couple of your videos and their very entertaing to watch. With such a big audience, you have a great and loving youtube community. Thanks for making my day with these awesome videos!
I just love your reviews so much. I could listen to you talk about tech all day.
Love your reviews. I feel like I know everything it is to know about whatever you are reviewing.
one of the best reviews of this laptop that i watched. THANK YOU!
This was a really good review, thanks Lisa!
Finally the fun, and quality reviews are back!
@MobileTechReview, little video editing issue around 4:00 mark, looks like you recorded the video playing on your computer and then uploaded it. :/
Otherwise, really awesome video and really enjoyed watching it. Its my absolute dream to own on of these laptops.!! so so cool :D
like how this channel does not take dramatic close up shots of products.
Lisa you're by far my favorite! I would love to see you reviewing the Adobe suite. Would you ever consider to review software as well?
thanks, been waiting for this
excellent review as always. please Lisa use °C and Kg so that all the world understands. My only problem with this laptop is that Pascal or Polaris mobile versions are just in the corner. (and having a desktop gtx 1070 using 150w, looks pretty easy to get a 100w (970m) with 50% performance increase.
will it last for 4 years atleast? on moderate to heavy use? or laptops like Alienware are better?
I own this laptop and am *loving it*. The perfect combination between gaming power and portability in my opinion.
Can we get a review of the Gigabyte Aero 14 whenever it's available? it's a great competitor to the Razer Blade
awesome review
great review Lisa. with thin laptops using Quad-core CPUs, I always get skeptical the manufacturer might downpower the CPU TDP to keep heat low. did you get any evidence that the i7-6700 might power throttle or temp throttle earlier (more frequently) than say, the Asus ZenBook Pro, the XPS 15 or the Macbook Pro 15?
Got mine a month ago and love it, I do wish the screen wasn't so glary though. Can you recommend a vendor that makes matte screen protectors for the razer?
Great review as always!
How about a comparison between the blade 2016 and the XPS 15? (:
That will be up next!
Can I buy a replacement battery for the laptop from Razer in case the battery life got shortened significantly after years of usage?
Great review! can we have a comparison between this and the XPS 15?
I'm split between the MSI GS40 Phantom and the 2016 Razer Blade what is a better buy in your opinion ?
How does the key travel compare to last years model? And compared to the stealth? I thought the stealths travel was too shallow when I tried it in person. Thank you!
great review! can you please do a Smack down between the razer blade and msi ghost pro 4k for a gaming/4k video editing laptop?
Best review out there on this unit.
why am i watching reviews of high end laptops after buying the acer predator? all it does is fill my head up with "what ifs" lol
While the Ctrl key placement on this laptop is correct, the position of the backspace leaves a lot to be desired. That and the fact you have to take a flight to the US to get one :)
So ... what would you rather have: an XPS 15 or a 2016 Razer Blade - and what for?
Is it worth the money to upgrade and get the 1060 or just go for this model. I don't plan on doing intensive gaming but still want something fast
I was going to order this but I decided to hold out till they come out with a 1080 based laptop, they should be comming from a lot of different places this summer
The 950 pro is almost 3 times faster write speed...well I guess booting and loading is read speed and the 950's just two times faster in that regard. I'll just go with the 256gb model and upgrade if i reeeeeeeeeeeeeally have the disposable income to throw on a 512gb 950pro. Awesome review as always! Finally looking forward to upgrading from my dodgy old first-gen XPS 12 -- which i bought based on your original review of that! ^)^
BTW the hinges haven't failed yet ;)
are very high settings considered Ultra settings or below ultra?
Hey, how would you compare it to Dell XPS 15? What would you reccomend for a aspiring VFX and photo/video artist?
I just purchased a new razer and it has very minor backlight bleeding on dark screens. Is it worth returning. I purchased from Microsoft Store. How frequent is this backlight bleed? Will I eventually get one with a perfect screen?
What do you mean with "not too bad", in the end of the video?
Im thinking of getting it for lab work, data analysis, and coding with MatLab and LabView, what is your thoughts on that?!
Thanks
Will you be doing the new Dell 2-in-1's soon?
Love this Laptop so much huh
Hi Lisa. Thanks for a great review! Question: for basic full HD video editing in Premiere Pro and After Effects, do you thin the Stealth+Core can handle those tasks, or would stepping up to the Blade 14 be more prudent?
I like that the stealth is smaller, quieter, and cooler for having in the office, but I need to be able to do some creative work at home in Adobe CC apps.
Great Review Lisa! Would you rather have a 1080p XPS 15, UX501vw or this Razer Blade?
Me personally? I'd rather have the Blade, but the larger display on the XPS 15 is pretty tempting.
How does this QHD looks like when gaming at 1080p? Does the image look blurry please?
Any plans on reviewing the FHD version?
I think you can charge it but only when it is off or in sleep mode. Can you try that out please?
Showdown with the MSI GS40 Phantom :D
Glorious 60fps!
I know this video is very old but I found a great deal ($922) for this one and was wandering after a prolonged gaming session if the laptop overheats as I have seen some people complaining about battery swelling and burning themselves on it.
Thanks
Great job!
hello Lisa!
I'm an architect, using a lot of 3D and graphics programs... I'm traveling a lot, so i need a lite portable machine.
I'm debating whether i should get the blade QHD 2016 or Origin EVO-S 15,
any recommendations? thanks
would you recommend this laptop over an alienware?
This will be great for music production on the go
It would be pretty cool if you could make a review on our gaming chairs ;)
When will I be able to buy this in Australia I'm running out of options here?
hey Liza I love your reviews. could you do a review on Asus gl502vt(gtx970m) or Asus gl502vy(gtx980m) the laptops are price good. only need a review.
Do you think about the new RAZER BLADE 2016 with the MACBOOK PRO
just curious but what Camera were you using to take the FLIR shoots?
I know that the Razor is better than the MSI GS40 but how much better is it? MSI is 1599... Is it worth to spend the extra $400 to get the Razor?
Don't those vents attract a lot of dust into the laptop?
ideal laptop! just pretty expensive.
shut i buy this or the alienware 17 r3 with 4k display and gtx980m on similar price?
new 2017 blade with more color gamut does it do better for blacks?
Do you think the core will work with this laptop in the near future?
From my understanding it does. It has a thunderbolt port meant for the core so you don't need a stealth to use it.
i didnt finish the video. was it really hot when u gaming?
now if they can do what they did with this on the 17" I would buy another one!
i love your nvidia shirt lisa!
I own the QHD razer blade 2016. The battery life is more like 3 hours of youtube. The reviewers never really test the battery life, they just look at windows estimated battery life which says around 6 or 7 hours but in real life use it's more like 3 hours.
Was this video meant to get some laughs?
Cause I had to laugh a few times.
"Man Nipple". 😂😂😂😂
If you hadn't laughed, I'd be bummed ;)
"Leather daddy love bracelet". I have to clean the coffee out of my keyboard now.
+MobileTechReview when will I be able to purchase this in Australia, I'm running out of options?
what are some good external hard drives/ssd's for use with the thunderbolt 3/usbc? i'm looking for something budget
I'm at a toss-up between this and The HP Omen I never hold a laptop that cost more then 300 dollars and the last computer desktop I bought was 10 years ago so I was thinking of dropping around 1500 for a gaming laptop but I'm. Otherwise going to play anything on a super high end setting I'm a console gaming erro and want to take advantage of the new Microsoft play anywhere thing so what should I do I was going to go with an i7 and 16ram but I don't know witch one would be better when it comes to graphic cards
where do you purchase that brand of laptop???
I'm sorry, what did she call the strap on the power cord?
"let's see how stealthy i can be..." proceeds to using a full auto! pure stealth!
💜Lisa!
just got mine, and the screen looks a bit washed out. anyone could share its ICC profile file product of a formal calibration? I don't have the device to calibrate the screen. thanks.
2016 Razer Blade or MSI gs63vr?
"Leather daddy love bracelet here with the man nipple" lol. I am totally calling it that.
I see that you have an Xbox one controller connected to it, was there any software downloads needed or just plug and play?
no its a xbox 360
Whats the battery life with just web surfing?
Part of me think's I remember reading on this Model that the Fans on the bottom Blow out instead of sucking in air making a laptop cooler useless.
I know the fans get loud when under load but let's say I played on 1080p Medium? That would significantly lower the fan speed right?
Nope.
Hey, what screen recorder did u use the one with frame rates?
The yellow framerate counter is from a bit of software called fraps.
The unaligned vents and fans will drive those with OCD insane...
Are there any way to get this laptop in europe?
I want this machine!
Worth waiting for Pascal? Or buy this now?
If you can i'd wait for pascal
Excellent review as always, enjoyed this video. :-)
I'm tempted to get a Razerblade 2016 version, but my main gripes is the small screen with bigger bezel border at top of display and heat generation during gaming. I guess I would eventually buy a Razer Core to spare the Razerblade from getting too hot during gaming or other heavy tasks.
Nevertheless, anyone else here have recommendations for me? Definitely want a gaming laptop with some impressive specs.
Look into the Asus Rog GL502VY ..it's a pretty thin laptop for the amount of horsepower it packs, and weighs under 5 pounds. i7-6700hq, 256gb SSD+1tb HDD, GTX 980M 8gb, 1080p matte IPS display with G-Sync, and the price is only $1800
+AV94 Nice specs but I can't stand matte displays, and 1080p is not really what I wanted
Could this handle rust?
I really like Razer laptpos, I wish they would make 15 and 17 inch and just as thin.
Did she use the Thunderbolt 3?
What is the price?
Can this run The Division? Just wondering because my desktop pc can't.
Of course
Is it available in the UK? I am thinking about purchasing one but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone help?
have you tried there official website?
+NiNi ChO yea but it just says they are unavailable...
same here, I've found it on eBay but really they've added too much over the original price
When do you reckon they will be in stock. Because they aren't on amazon
check HIDevolution. I got a 2015 model from there and I'm also in the UK. They will include tax for you in the price so you only need to pay once and from then on you just wait for your laptop to be shipped.
help Lisa! I get caught up in the benchmark numbers, but realistically...is this cpu that much better than a 2015 mb pro? I don't plan on gaming, I'm seeking a portable and powerful machine for music production software and plugins (possibly video editing)...am I going to notice a difference??
For 1000 the razer stealth has the same processor as this. And is more portable, I suggest looking into that because it's half the price! It's what I'm looking into for my school laptop as I don't think I want a Mac
+Chase Adams The stealth has a dual core and the 2016 Razer blade has a quad core cpu
can this work with like homework or assignments
how much does it cost?
Lisa Razer needs to.. and i mean MEDICALLY needs to send you the blade PRO really need to hear your views on it before i buy it!
JooJoo Flop damn you are on every single comment section of every tech vídeo i watch
I love my tech ☺☺☺
