    Years ago you had a video where you asked "If you could only do one workout what would that be?"
    Many of the guys at your gym answered "farmer's carry" and since then I have included them in my program.
    Thank you for the years of great content.

      @@DJGenericname oh yeah for sure! Nice to hear another anecdote of getting big carryover effects from farmers walks. I remember watching some of Brian’s older videos too a couple years back. But reached a limit carrying the heaviest kettlebells at my previous gym
      I’m super pumped to progressively overload towards bodyweight in each hand, as my first milestone 💪 I feel like it will address some weaknesses in my core from just doing barbell work

  • @c4ll
    @c4ll Před 2 lety +1

    question:
    I remember watching earlier videos on farmers walks from you. I have access to a trap bar and about 20 meters of grass at my gym. I don't quite remember what your recommendations for load was but I remember it was a bit daunting for someone of my ability (lower intermediate lifter, bodyweight in each hand would barely exceed my max deadlift currently). Even doing walks with my bodyweight as my total load would be challenging perhaps especially for grip.
    the farmers walks fell out of my program fairly fast since I wasn't sure about how to measure progress or improve with them but I can definitely see the benefit they could bring. What kind of progression/benchmarks would you recommend for someone who wants to work them into my routine but don't feel confident enough yet to go balls to the walls with them?

    • @donnymcjonny6531
      @donnymcjonny6531 Před 2 lety +1

      If you only have trap bar, start by incorporating trap bar deadlifts into your program. Once you get comfortable with the pick, you can start taking steps. You don't have to go balls to the wall with crazy weight, you can do it with distance too. Put 135 on and walk the 20, if it's too easy, turn around and do it again (without dropping if you can). If that's too easy, add a little bit more. Do that til you find a weight that's challenging but not crazy max effort every time

    Hi Brian, I have been doing Farmer's carries for about 5 months. I am very much a beginner, and my PR on the carries got to 150kg at a bodyweight of 69kg.
    Last week, I used the single handed implements that you showed in this video for the first time. I loaded up gradually to 55kg in each hand on my third set. During the lift-off (before I started to walk), I felt a pop around my mid back on my left side. I checked with my physio and he said I had pulled my serratus and lats.
    I feel that the cause was that the single handed implements tend to wobble around in all directions, and I didn't stabilize the weight on one side. I also felt my breathing-and-bracing might have needed work. Do you have any other suggestions for this specific injury as to what might have happened? Any corrections you could suggest?
    Thanks a lot for your help!!

    • @BrianAlsruheOfficial
      @BrianAlsruheOfficial  Před 2 lety

      Not straps. That defeats the purpose unless you are doing them for a specific reason. And put on a belt when you would normally put one on for a deadlift. If the combined weight is heavy enough, then throw it on

    My biggest issue with farmers walks is that I don’t have access to implements. I have just been using 90lbs kettlebells. Unfortunately they’re the heaviest kettlebells the gym offers, so if I wanna increase weight, I’ll have to basically do a farmers walk just to get the dumbbells from their rack on the other side of the gym to the starting position on the turf lol. Any good workaround for this?
