Nobody ever sang like Bobby Hatfield. His range, his control, his warmth, his heart, his soul he put everything into a performance. He was a phenomenal entertainer. Gone way too soon.

When I listen to Bobby sing my heart truly breaks and I want to, and a lot of times do, cry. His voice was amazing but it wasn't just his voice, you can actually feel the emotion, the pain, the love coming from his heart. Bobby was more than a legend, his unique, beautiful, soulful voice was and is one of a kind, there will never be another Bobby 💔💜💙

This commentator has such sensitivity and soul. He reviewed the song a few months ago, and man, oh man, what a song. Bobby Hatfield at his finest. He’s as good singing here as he was in “Unchained Melody“.

Love this! Richard Perry produced this track with Hatfield and i believe Ringo Starr of The Beatles was on the drums. This song was one of the many he recorded with Perry late '71 in Londons' Apple Studio (owned by The Beatles) for Hatfields' 2nd solo album which didn't get released for some reason. Decades later, collection of these long lost preliminary recordings by Hatfield at Apple Studios came to light and was finally released; Bobby Hatfield - Stay With Me: The Richard Perry Sessions. 😊

Bobby was one of the greatest singers and he didn't get the credit he should have gotten I wish he was still here with us and the Righteous Brothers were still together but God called for Bobby to go home we lost a great singer I know Bill misses him a lot to rest in peace Bobby we love you I miss you too like I said Bobby did have a bad heart there at the end he couldn't walk around a lot he said on the stool when he got tired at a concert love you Bobby rest in peace

What this song conveys to me is that a certain point in time Bobby Hatfield, and in fact the Righteous Brothers, did not get the support they earned once popular taste in music changed.
Johnny Cash had the same observation about his situation, a justifiable complaint, before he died.
Through record company management indifference, to the wrong musical accompaniment for them, to the fans moving on to other styles of music the Righteous Brothers together and solo were largely overlooked by the public, and that shouldn't have been the case as they flowed with talent.
Who knows what they could have accomplished under better circumstance?
The Righteous Brothers appear to be experiencing something of a revival now that some of the public is finally hungering for real singing talent versus elaborate showmanship, but it didn't occur while Bobby Hatfield was still alive and he was sometimes treated as a fad of the past, even during his prime years and they both deserved much better.
This song in particular should have received real industry support and been as popular as any of the early Righteous Brothers songs but it didn't happen at the time and after many listens it's really difficult to understand why.
You are so right. Bill and Bobby, as well as Johnny Cash, were in a class by themselves. I know there are millions of Beatle fans, but I could never understand the allure of these guys. Maybe because they were British? Because they certainly did not have the talent of the Righteous Brothers, or Johnny! So many of their amazing songs have been overlooked. But thanks to You Tube they will be enjoyed for many years to come. Stay With Me is one of my favorites from Bobby. Bill's country song, "'Till Your Memory's Gone' is so beautiful, also his "Learning To Love again."

As a fan of the Righteous Brothers since the beginning I'm enjoying all the reactions to them, but you are the only reactor I've found who looks beyond the same few songs. I'd love to see you react to Somewhere, another Bobby gem. This song is from the musical West Side Story. The Broadway cast album of WSS was one of the first albums I bought as a kid and this was my favorite song from the soundtrack. I never knew that one of my favorite singers recorded it until I found it on CZcams. The Internet, for all its flaws, can also be wonderful! Happy and healthy New Year to all.
I wish the instrumentals were a lower volume and his vocals were brought more into the forefront.

@@hallieharker4384 Maybe not...Bobby was always among the rare gentlemen, but most guys were not...The Draft of the Vietnam war removed so many good men from the social scene....Among the selfish draft dodgers and hedonists remaining...with new easy access to flow of cheap drugs, cheap contraceptives and soon to be legalized abortion, there was much pressure on single women especially to be promiscuous . This pressure did not stop until AIDS hit town in the early 1990s and gave women the power and freedom to reject cheap ends to an evening...and hold out for real relationships. In your era, you may enjoy the beautiful music (and there was plenty of junk too, indeed) without all the mess.

Thanks for this reaction. Not sure why this song didn't make the charts, for me it's so heart-breakingly beautiful and one of Bobby's best solos. I read that the album was abandoned due to the failure of the single. It's the most incredible performance of this song with some of the best musicians of the time, including Ringo Starr, and recorded at Apple Studios....completely mystifying. Your reactions to the Righteous Brothers are helping to keep their memory alive, although Bill is still with us thankfully.
It's great you're venturing into the less well-known RB recordings as there are so many priceless gems to discover, and I get the feeling your appreciation of the Brothers is genuine, unlike so many others who don't look beyond the obvious hits. For Once in My Life was Bill's favourite, Brown Eyed Woman is another, and their appearances on Shindig will yield some amazing live performances but don't know if the quality is good enough, but they were having so much fun at the time for me they're still a delight.
He had the worst luck with record companies. Also, I think his style wasn't what DJs wanted to play in the late '60s and early '70s.
There's also the rumors/gossip that Spector put his thumb on the scale. Have no idea if that's true. What is true is he didn't like Bobby, and while the RBs were recording with him, he was actively trying to get Bill to dump Bobby.
Definitely…however I think Bobby would have had a long queue of ladies and some gentlemen wanting to stay with him😂

I loved your reaction to this song and how nicely you analogized it--making us think about life and how we sometimes have to look forward, change what we can, and accept what we can't. 2020 was a year of trouble and sorrow, but we must hold onto hope. Bobby Hatfield and his way of conveying his passion, heart and soul are truly inspiring. Thanks for your keen perspective. Cathy
Yes, 2020 was very hard, my 50 year old son, John Chris. passed away in December from a blood cancer that he had fought for 10 years. But I am getting through the grief, knowing that he walks with God. Take heart, we WILL get through this! Be safe.
P,S. I fell in love with Bobby and Bill 56 years ago, and I still love them. They are unbelievable.

May you find some comfort knowing he no longer has to struggle now that he is in Glory. The choir of angels he hears no doubt includes Bobby Hatfield and your John thinks of his mom every time he hears their beautiful voices .

The greatest singer of all time !! He is the reason i started singing . I kick myself for not replacing him a few years ago but i guess it easnt meant to be. Unfortunately , cocaine and alcohol took down another great , no , the greatest !!! Rip bobby !!!!

I dont understand how his beautiful voice was so overlooked . Paul McCarney owns Unchained Melody. Why didn't Bobby's songs, like this one that makes my heart hurt, get put out there more aggresively, for people to hear. He got lost in the wrong musical era i guess.
Unchained Melody was most certainly "Bobby's Song."
Because they just didn't care. Good taste in music died decades ago, beginning with the boring vocals of some guys from overseas who all sounded alike, no passion or feeling, and Bobby and Bill put all of their emotion, feeling, and love into every performance. Something that's been lacking for years.
