  • Long before holding the title of being the last high floor transit bus in Ontario, this 2003 Orion V entered service as Ajax-Pickering Transit Authority 2050. Part of APTA's only conventional bus order between the merger of Ajax Transit and Pickering Transit, 2050 was the first of 6 buses in the 2050-2055 series. Two matching Orion Vs were also delivered to Cornwall Transit. At the creation of Durham Region Transit in January 2006, 2050 was renumbered to 8050 and served for the following eight years before an extensive rebuild by Eastway Collision. At that point, it was decided that the remainder of the series would be retired, leaving 8050 as the only survivor. In 2016, Durham Region Transit would sell 8050 to Sarnia Transit, and the bus got numbered 164. 164 would remain in service, supporting increased ridership in Sarnia until the COVID-19 pandemic, when ridership dropped. 164 was placed in storage in 2021 before being sold to its current owners in 2022, who, for time being, have simplified the exterior livery and begun modifying the interior appearance with different seat inserts. The original number, 2050, has been reapplied to bus, respecting the Ajax-Pickering Transit Authority heritage. 2050 is powered by a 275hp Detroit Diesel Series 50 EGR engine with a 3 speed Voith D863.3E transmission. Following a long wait for parts, which are increasingly hard to find, the bus returned to the streets in June 2024 just prior to the recording of this video. Recorded in 4K on a Sony A7riv and GoPro Hero 9 Black. Thanks for watching and subscribe ‪@orionviii‬ for more videos like this one.

I miss riding these buses so much, haven’t been on one since YRT was still using theirs in Markham back in 2017.
It’s nice to see this Orion V being preserved in operational condition.
    Excellent video!👍

hearing DD50EGR on anything that isn't a VII is so unusual for me personally, lol.
