Full 30 minute show from April 11, 1996 from The Aud as broadcast by Empire Sports Network. From the home of the largest private Sabres video collection.
Man, everything about this just screams 90s. The graphics, the music, the whole presentation. Then add the commercials. It makes me feel like I'm 8 years old again.
This was the start of the best era in Sabres history. The Dominik Hasek era where he made this logo iconic and gave opponents nightmares of stopping there best shots! And then the 1999 Stanley Cup finals! I don't care what any one says, the "Angry Bison head" was the best Sabres logo EVER and so the awesome jerseys.
if I had a wish in life. It would be for Jim and Rj to never age past this point and commentate until the end of time. Man i miss the 90s and early 00s side not: wow seeing the old school commercials and everything on here really brings me back. Thank you for finding this nostalgic moment in time
Since Rayzor is the color guy now, you could wish he never aged either. That way, he'll keep kicking ass. Like Whitney Houston said, "There's no more fighting left."
And for them to have the privilege and to all of us true Buffalo Sabres Fans to hear them announce the series winning game of the stanley cup . Knowing we hear a level of excitement and joy that R.j has probably never shared saving for that very day makes me even sad 😔
It couldn't have been more epic than to announce the new logo with O Fortuna Carmina Burana. That was awesome. Whoever thought of that deserved a raise.
Here we are in 2022-2023 and the new generation of Sabres wearing these jerseys again are saying the same things. They look and feel more aggressive. I love both so it's hard for me to say which I like more.
7:25 "Are you ready, Legion of Doom? Here come the Buffalo Sabres!" - Rick Jeanneret (1942-2023) You've heard of the horseshoe, the rabbit foot, and the four-leaf clover. Now, witness the power of the incoming horde from the Scourge of the East, the Master of the Red'n Black & Dominator of Ontario! Fear and tremble before the thundering roar of the Mighty, the Awesome, the Triumphant, the Lucky GOAT-Head!
Crazy because knox died very soon after this. Was weird because the very same uniforms they unveiled were about to have his initials on them for the 96 season.
I think the Sabres missed an opportunity with this look in 96. I would have kept the original blue to go with the black instead of the red. Also, wasn't a fan of the new bison logo. But I did like the alternate that came out in 2000. That being said, the uniforms themselves were really cool.
The thing is, around that time period the NHL was changing from what it was in the 80s, into almost a entirely new era. It was ushering in the 2000s, the population was getting bigger, more fans of hockey were coming up and alot more younger players, and when teams like the avalanch and pheonix coming in with brand new jerseys, nobody wanted to be stuck with a relic from the 70s or 80s, regardless of tradition or whatever, every team was ditching them even the islanders who had a 4 year cup run, ditched there iconic logo for that fisherman jersey, wich is way way way wayyyy worse than the buffalo head sabre jersey. The buffalo head sabrs jersey i think is better than the pheonix jersey they brought back, and that jersey nobody was a fan of back in the day, especially in new york, you rarely saw that jersey. Im glad buffalo brought it back but, they should of just brought back the og away black one from 1996, everyone likes that one the best.
When the goathead came out, CBC played a clip of the unveiling and said "Boy, the people in Buffalo are easy to please. Kinda looks like the Senators new unis on drugs."
Goat...Head...luv it. Mine is a white #41 "Stuuuuuuuuuuu Barnes!" sweater. 20+ years later and I still have it and wear it. It's rather remarkable I can still fit into it.
So did the Sabres have an intrasquad game that day or something, black vs white in the new duds? It's weird that everyone would come to the rink to watch them just skate around in their new uniforms.
No..the fans packed The Aud just to see the new uniforms (and purchase new logo souvenirs). The Sabres would play their last game in The Aud a couple of days later.
Hated we went away from Blue and Gold !!! Probably would have been ok with them if we kept the traditional color's but going to a foreign color scheme that's not familiar to any of the Buffalo sports teams was strange to me
I like the original logo and colors we still use today. The goat head was very cheesy and thought they were overrated.... still better than the slug I guess....
@Razor Reacts jerseys don't make a team a good coach and a good organization makes a team. And when we were these we had a good front office with a coach who turned mediocre players into great players except we had the best goaltender to ever play the game of hockey. So those silly uniforms we were had nothing to do with anything
@@dannythomas417 he's on my mind daily I see the Buffalo Sabers on the same track as the Buffalo Bills right now not being able to hear his voice when Buffalo's back in battle in the playoffs his voice so filled with excitement and passion no one will ever know again

It’s like a time machine, right?
I have a great inventory of games and highlights that I’ll be posting when I have the opportunity. Enjoy!
Hearing a younger RJ and Lorenz gives me chills
And seeing RJ's main hairdo in the early goathead era is kinda weird knowing how his buzzcut was turning heads that year.
“Younger”
Watching this in 2022 just makes me want to jump in a time machine and never come back
I was never Sabers fan but I always loved this logo and jersey. Glad to say I have one in my collection
This is so cool! Thank you for posting it!
Idgaf what any Buffalonian says, the GOAT head was the best Sabres logo EVER. I used to LOVE these jerseys. So amped they brought it back.
the team played THE BEST hockey un those jerseies too!
@@davidslife989ITS NOT A GOAT HEAD!!!

I was here for this. I was unfortunately only 7 so I remember very little but it was still cool
I went to this as a 11 yr old kid. So much fun

Thank you Paul!
The Buffalo Sabres goathead red and black jerseys are one of the most classic jerseys in NHL history
So excited to see the Angry Buffalo Head jerseys again
Me too it's a beautiful logo
Best away jersey and one of if not the most intimidating away jerseys ever period.
It's not called the Goathead; it's the GOAT-Head!
BEST era of Sabres hockey, IMO. Great video!! 👍👍
I absolutely love these jerseys and logo
Could never do this today. The image would be leaked all over the internet.

I was there and now I get to be in the now Key Bank Arena and see them bring it back once again!!!
Do you have the soft sensation jingle package from JAM?
That’s one I don’t have.
This is in my algorithm the day the Sabres bring back the goat head
Same
Awesome!!
I know a lot of Sabres fans love the goathead, but I think the classic logo royal blue & gold are so much better.
Oh hell yes....
The 90's was the best era for hockey 🏒
Toughness mixed with legends
Crazy because knox died very soon after this. Was weird because the very same uniforms they unveiled were about to have his initials on them for the 96 season.
This was big
holy crap, this is awesome lmao
I didn't know Empire aired Pirates games.
Intimidating from the get go!
This is a rare video
Seymour h Knox III died like a month after this was filmed
That's why they wore them SHK III patches. But they didn't wear 7 or 14 when Gilbert Perreault lost his French connection buddies.

Better than the "Buffaslug".
Super kindergarten day 😆 I miss my life now even though when I was younger wanted to go upstairs to go to elementary level 😆

Shame we didn't get to see Pat LaFontaine more in these jerseys

How long was it Marine Midland Arena? I really liked that name.
Marine Midland Arena (1997-1999)
HSBC Arena (2000-2011)
First Niagara Center (2012-2016)
KeyBank Center (2017-2025)

That idiot said the away uniforms would scare people coming to Buffalo. 😅😅😅
So pissed we will be wearing these occasionally again
Even saddening that we won't hear RJ anymore. Yeah, he just turned 80, but he's still better than Dunleavy, Darling & Gurtler combined.
