They just have to keep track of the person walking around. They don't have to identify anyone by face. As long as everyone is in view of at least one camera then they are okay.

how does this stop thieves who literally jump over the gate, grab what the want and leave?
maybe they have a camera that detects someone that jumps over. Takes their picture. And sends it to the police.
