  • Johnny Muston from R&K Stockcraft is shooting terracotta ‘ballistic’ wax. He is comparing a standard 16gr JSB Exact and a JSB Hades Diablo. Find out which shoots better and does the most damage.

It's like debating what tires are best for a car that only goes 12 mph.

If I might add my 2 cents?
Velocity matters for expansion, which I believe is the desired difference between the Exact vs. the Hades. I feel that our brothers-in-arms from the UK are restricted from enough velocity due to the FPE legalities, and thus the Hades may under-perform. The design at lower velocities would not achieve expansion while simultaneously hinder penetration vs the Exact which has less 'front end resistance'. The Hades design is trying to grab on to its surroundings and expand, but would not have the velocity to do so. Thus, never expands and has less penetration.
    Again, just my thoughts.
    Thank you for your video!

I agree. I have pested with 22 cal Hades out of my weihrauch hw97k as well as my FX Dreamline Tactical. The fps difference is around 100-110 fps and although the HW97k still gets the job done, the FX Dreamline Tactical definitely gets the job done better! Why? Because the FX is pushing the exact same pellet 100fps faster than the 97k and because of that, the Hades pellets are achieving much greater expansion. I'll be trying these pellets out of my FX Impact M3 in 30 cal tomorrow.

    FPS to slow for expansion

My experience with JSB Hades is that they are better than much heavier pellets I've used for years on live targets like Rabbits.

Lots of ppl say the energy dump early is good but i find find the penetration work best for body shots

Hollow Point are not meant to shoot soft target because there will be no expansion. Pellet looks undamaged

Sub 12 won't expand hades, my 37ft hw100 expands them but they also strangely have a poi shift to the right

Very interesting. Just wanted to add from my experience with the .25 cal Baracuda Hunter Extreme is that they were very loose in the breech, almost to the point of automatically assuming an intentionally manufacturer defect. Every other brand of pellets used in that rifle fit snug. Strange eh? (.25 Hatsan Mod 125)

@Colton Genesis i would suggest FlixZone. You can find it on google =)

They actually make different head sizes so you have to experiment and find the right fit. In my experience I’ve found that they perform best when they fit in with just a light push. Not too tight but not falling out loose. When the air hits the skirt it slightly expands the pellets skirt to engage the rifling.

Also in respects to the hades vs. exact wouldn't it be fair to say that the hades is a good close to medium range hunting pellet and the exact would be a good all range pin point hunting pellet? I'm just assuming with me having no actual experience with a scenario exactly like that but just a hunch of mine after slinging a few thousand here and there. For example, a raccoon Headshot at 200ft? Or even 300ft. you'd think that the hades would crack him good but just maybe fracture the skull while the exact would penetrate through killing the raccoon? I just get that sorta feeling when using the two pellets even though they should have relatively close ft lb drop off rates at similar distances?? Did I just type that for no reason? I think I did? Ya

Thanks. Good point. Personally, I am not such a confident shot that I would choose a Hades over an Exact. I prefer the greater accuracy. / Charlie

Hades are magic in my fx crown mk2 around 920 fps one small hole at 35 yards.

Your rifle is underpowered. In 177, try at least 18 ft lbs and in .22, try 30 ft lbs. Hades will expand much more.

Uk limits, without a fire arm certificate we cannot own an air gun with an fbs above 12fps

@@matthewrobson7190 Dang, that's really low... Makes me glad I live in the USA. We can get .457 cal airguns that get over 900fps with hollow FX-hybrid style 302gr slugs. A buddy of mine chronographed his muzzleloader and my Airforce Texan and did a side-by-side comparison. We found out that the airgun was getting higher fps, the same muzzle energy, better ballistics, better expansion, half the group size, was much quieter (full length shrouded barrel), costs less in ammunition, and can be reloaded faster. What makes this hilarious is that he had to pass background checks and has to follow firearm laws with his muzzleloader, but the airgun that outperforms it can be mail-ordered to my front door no questions asked and is exempt from all firearm laws... and has a full length suppressor.

its ok doing the jell testing, and then trying the hard surface tests, but both are misleading to the bigger picture, i.e. the old caliber debate and the bird n feather theories. a rabbits head starts with bone penetration where as a pidgin bod shot is probably all flesh...minus the hard feathers. a 22 goes further through soft and a 177 goes further through hard..if you see what i'm getting at. the weight of the pellet, the shape..and more importantly the velocities involved, the velocities include where on the trajectory arc the pellet is arriving on target. so to some up the same pellet at different velocities reacts favourable or not to a specif type of shot, so to get the 'all-round' picture if your hunting you want for fur and feather, body and head shots at ranges of what? 2 yards can be hairy scary on bouncer lol..(yu want the pellet to splat at that range) out to say 40yard so the moaners who cant don't moan as much but for the ultimate 2-60 yards(sub 12fp's on an very good gun set up,and a lot of experience) for soft and hard penetration ..........but if you cant hit it there's no point bothering. an example is the bisley magnums at 50 yard for rabbit heads does a great job, but at 5-10 yard ratting sheeeesh the pellets gone on through and carried on some more, the rats scream and fish tail all over the place etc etc, really not suited for all round, so 'penetration' factors alone are not really helpful bar safety notes as a definitive factor. next the big hole verses the small hole, well...depending on the depth it is a better starting point but...depends on the energy that imparts into the flesh/nervous system which is due to velocity ultimately. as a rule of thumb 3/4's through is enough of a hole..if placed right. after that the wider the hole..(we're dealing in airguns here so sonic waves etc lol? not applicable)..after the width of the track how much wampum did it have, this where we start to over penetrate and the wanders of dum dums comes in, dum dums dont expand until they get FAC velocities, so its a flat head effect...long story short for all round hunting (you'll know your pellet trajectory much better much sooner and therefore for longer) a round head for the most important accuracy not super hard (over penetration closer too) and not to soft (the flappy slap it loud effect and just sting it)..2-3 inch penatration at 50 yard is enough for head shot .....ehh woffling nar, my point, try a hard surface into a soft substrate and see how pellets go with that then we can funnel down to the most accurate for the job at hand because less face it, theres more sellers that would sell you a mouldy pork pie than would actually tell yu the truth lol. (with weight comes sluggishly slower velocities, with that things start to see the pellet coming and actually dodge...with velocity comes penetration if its hard enough or a lot of expansion if there's enough velocity). so which pellet was better? one damaged much more and the other did more than enough? good vid btw lol.

think i'm trying to say you could now apply the factors to a specific purpose?
