  • Former armed police officer Harry Tangye responds to the Manchester Airport police kicking incident.
"I'm highly suspicious that the edit is right at the beginning. We don't see the beginning. You don't see the context", he told Talk's Russell Quirk.
A police officer has been suspended after the video which appeared to show a man being kicked as he lay on the floor sparked a protest.
Crowds gathered outside Rochdale Police Station late on Wednesday night after footage shared on social media appeared to show a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officer kick and stamp on the head of a man who was lying face down on the floor, with a woman kneeling beside him.
The video, said to have been filmed at Manchester Airport’s terminal two on Tuesday, also appeared to show the officer strike a second man.
Police said three of their officers had been assaulted, including a female Pc who suffered a broken nose, and four men were arrested.
Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham has called for “calm” following the incident and was due to meet Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to discuss the footage.

This is getting more attention than the children that have been stabbed by immigrants in children's playground in broad daylight, Children stabbed, raped and elderly being stabbed, elderly who've lived in the UK all their lives. Its disgusting. If that was a white man there would not be all this media. One of these men punched and broke the nose of a female officer. None of us saw what happened, before someone started filming this incident. Sorry but I think we need more police officers like him. Rightly or wrongly that is my own opinion and I know that what I'm saying is the same as what so many other people are thinking. When will it be acceptable, when these thugs, when they start burning down out houses? A bus was set in fire last week. Come on everyone open your eyes!! As the other commentator pointed out, this is now a legal investigation, so there are protocols and hoops to jump through before the footage can be released to the public. Considering several police officers were injured, including a female officer having her nose broken, it seems likely that there is a lot of context missing from this video. When we landed at Abu Dubai years ago in transit, we were escorted of the plane by armed guards.
We were shown into one area of the airport, and told to wait there until re boarding. When we were lined up to board, guards came and pointed at some of us and motioned for us to move out the line to where groups of staff were waiting. No words were used, just hand gestures. I had to go into a room with 3 female staff, and my bag and I were searched and heavily patted down, by 2 while 1 observed me.
We were eventually returned to the group and escorted back to the plane by armed guard. ....it was pretty nerve racking.

I watch shooting breakdowns of USA Law Enforcement Officers. If they are attacked (because they have firearms that can be taken) the use of Deadly Force enters the equation. If the attackers go for the LEO firearm Deadly Force is very often used. That means shooting till the danger is stopped, usually till they are dead or dying. This is looking like BLM. Black guy has a knife, goes for a gun, is shot , then it was a shooting because they were B, not a B with a deadly weapon. Don't mess with armed Police. Comply instead of "no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no". The guy on the floor was still a threat. It started with refusal to be searched - what are they trying to hide - and it explosives / weapons involved where were the weapons of trigger? Could have been in the still hidden hand of the person on the floor still not showing his hands. The Police, if up to their job, should be thinking of these possibilities.

As for the old going for the gun excuse, that's the oldest one in the book, every American cop involved in a killing uses that one.
If they believed they were terrorists with bombs they wouldn't have tasered them would they? Boom springs to mind!
So it just comes down to loss of control of the situation, incompetence and retaliation.
None of the other officers there used such force, in fact the female officer looked lost and ineffective.

Yeah clearly this officer became so frightened for his safety and those around him that he resorted to more extreme members to incapacitate the guy, which will look brutal when taken out of context. For me it's just a training issue, not racism. I'm sure he's not thinking about the guys race as this is all happening. He's in survival mode. I would have liked to have seen some kind of grappling restraint to keep the guy wrapped up and safe, unless there were multiple attackers, at which point your training could go out of the window. You just want to put someone down. These guys have a hard job, let's not forget that

I think when you're under serious threat your survival mode will kick in (no pun intended). You won't want that person to be able to get up.
