  • Our little Tao Tao DB 110 dirt bike would not start. It just made a click when you would press the start button. Charged the battery and that did not solve the problem. Replaced the battery also which was a waste. Jumped the solenoid and that did not solve the problem. Tested the starter and it clicked as well. Removed the crank case and found a pebble lodged in the chain. Removed the pebble and replaced the case and she fired right up.

I thank you as does my neighbors kids! I changed the oil and put in a new battery as a favor. I was unclear on when or how it stopped running.
I checked over the wire harness to confirm everything was connected. I was reluctant to start replacing parts. After seeing your post I pulled the cover off... chain was very tight. Turned the flywheel with a 14mm... presto.... chain has some slack now. Did not see if any small pebbles had been lodged in the chain. Put the cover back on and it fired right up.
Kids will be happy to be riding this weekend!

Thanks for the tip. My grandson’s 125 cheetah did the same thing. The solenoid would click and the starter began to heat up and you could hear it click so I was hoping something just had it in a bind. I pulled the cover off and sure enough the starter chain was super tight. After a few minutes of thought I put a 14mm 1/2” drive ratchet on the flywheel nut and turned it counter clockwise and it immediately broke free. There was enough slack in the chain that when the starter had engaged it bound up at the flywheel gear. If it happens again after I free it I will pull the starter chain and try to remove a link. If this happens to you before you start ordering parts pull the cover and make sure the starter chain isn’t bound up. Sorry for the lengthy comment hope this helps someone.

I’m trying to get this clutch cover off and I’m having a tough time not wanting to crack it. I have all the bolts removed but it’s stuck on there pretty good. Do you know how many bolts holds that cover on in any advice on removing it?

I got one the same exact one for my son the wires that connect to the battery ones longer than the other the one that is further away the wire won’t reach it I know black on black and red on red the red wire is the long one and it’s closest but the black wire which is furthest should be longer what is yours like that and what did you do

Do you have to drain the oil out of the bike when you take the case off , or you don't have to???.

I swear if I look at my bike right now which is the same bike and I find a rock in there after I replaced everything. I'm going to be so mad like I took apart in my carburetor I replaced the battery. I replaced the stator I think that's what it's called. I'm going to be furious

Marvin Holmes sorry for the late response. Seems like I had to tap the Allen screw or hex screw with a hammer to just break them loose before I put the ratchet on it.
