dude i think the most important part of this video, you kinda flew right past it! putting the fulcrum on the middle finger?! whaaaaaaaaaa?!?!!?
Rob Brown how would I apply these strokes and licks around the kit. I have been playing drums for awhile and I have gotten good but I kno I can get even better. My problem is applying the strokes around the toms and kick especially my doubles. I have control but not as well as I know I should and without that my speed is lacking so how can apply around the kit?. Also how can I get that very nice tempo watch you have? Thanks your videos have helped me in the past so I’m back for more lol thanks for your help.

Hey Rob. I just want to tell you i have been playing drums since 5 years old. Im now 44. I have always hated rudimentary practice and my left hand is weak. For the last few weeks i made myself start practicing rudiments to make myself better. I string together your single, double, paradiddle and six stroke role videos in each practice and i can now play things i never could before all thanks to you. Even playing in bands i never felt good at the drums and with this practice i now do i feel like im the best i have ever been. Your lessons make practicing fun. I still need alot of work on my weak left hand for double stroke rolls but i hope one day my doubles will come along. Thank you for you efforts. God bless brother.

Well said. I heard a song where the drummer was doing a two beat (double time) at 150 (300) beats per minute. He is doing this for at least 5 minutes with ease. I go straight to Rob for advice on speeding up my singles strokes. Thanks Rob.

Hi Rob, I started playing when I was 13, I am 66 now but never got into rudiments just concentrated on variations of beats. I can see where I have missed out all of these years. I will start practicing these rudiments you are sharing. Thank you.
Vernon Steinkamp if you enjoyed your experience than you didn’t miss out. It is so easy with people like Rob giving us great practice routines and inspiration to get better at the instrument we all love. There were no real resources when I was learning, and I definitely couldn’t afford great teaching. Drum on!
I agree with Vernon, and also have been playing for over thirty years without REALLY doing the rudimental work. Now I am and my playing feels totally different...and for the better (still feels "weird", but that will go away). Cheers!
I’m a 55 year old woman who wanted to play the drums when she was young but never was allowed. I started drumming a year ago (taking biweekly lessons as well) and am now working on the rudiments 😁. Looks like I started just in time 😉.
I agree with you. Only, I started with rudiments when first started to play when I was about 13, now 53 and I REALLY wish I would've stuck practicing my rudiments because I would be really really good with them by now!! I still enjoyed playing but I can see where I would be much better had I kept up practice with the rudiments! Especially now that I have to play EVERYTHING with just my hands due to a serious motorcycle accident in 1991 that left me paralyzed from the armpits down!! I never gave up the drums though since I love playing so much! It was pretty rough at first trying to figure out how to play all the different beats and and other things that you're used to playing with four limbs and now you have to pay them with only two. Simple beats were easy but when you get into the more complex beats etc, and things like triplets and quadruplets getting them to sound the same using two limbs opposed to using four limbs that's where it got a lot more complicated!! It was almost like starting all over again. Also of course I had to switch to some electric gear so I could program a bass drum up where I could hit it with my hands etc. There's more of course but this comment is too long already and I think you get the idea. I'm only 22 but I've done the exact same, in a band and I can't even do a roll but can play in time and have a good variation of beats, I just learned from playing along to songs

Have been messing about on a beginner e drum kit for two months and have just got a practice pad/snare stand to learn the rudiments properly. I love your clear, crisp presentation. Dear Rob, I don't know if you're the best drummer but you're definitely the best drumming teacher I've found. I have been practicing your rudiments for not even a month and my skills have already improved a lot and I am a 38 years old beginner. I finally grasped the proper hand technique. So the Canadian grip is like the American grip, just much more polite, and stickier from the maple syrup. :)
Gonna practice this for two days straight by a lake in upstate NY. Singles, my pad, the lake, and nothin to do but get better.

Rob since I've found your channel my approach to playing has hit the sky. The whole deal mate! From posture to stickings, to developing dynamics, to even tempo, to even volume, etc etc etc. I've played the same set of drums I got when I was a kid and I've used them through the years in dance bands, to covers bands BUT I've never attempted to play with consistent discipline. At the tender age of fifty, I'm rediscovering my playing and finally I'm focused on all of these things you demonstrate across your videos. I'm starting small. At the moment I've got sticks and a couple of cushions and now that I've got everything nice and comfortable I am practicing my rudiments in front of the screen. I'm not joking when I say that by following you I have advanced in a few months what I haven't been able to achieve in three decades! Thanks mate and keep the mojo coming :-)
I’ve only been playing for a year and ive been extremely discouraged with my single strokes lately. I wasted way to much time focusing on speed thinking id sound more impressive but its videos like this that motivate me to practice the right way and to stick with ot slow and steady. Thanks a lot for the work you put into these videos bro

Hey there Rob, I just want to thank you mate. I've been a drummer for years but never really practiced rudiments, I mean I've tried but I never seem to progress or get much better. I have been in a very dark place until just the last couple of days after discovering your practice sessions. I've pretty much lost all my work due to the virus and just lost my brother to cancer also. Doing just this lesson and practicing for a couple of hours has not only rocketed my speed and consistency, but it's given me focus and a fire to keep doing it. Your lessons are great Rob, you have a good balance as a teacher between raw information/explanation. Ive just realized how much i underestimated the singles ( i have a great paradiddle diddle, for example but my 32nd singles are crap!) 3 of you vids from singles to rolls can make a very useful routine. There is so much info out there, and self taught guys like me usually get themselves lost as far as how to practice, and how to organize practice time.

Nice to see another Torontonian! Really appreciate the breakdowns in the lessons. You make it more for the lay person starting out which is absolutely phenomenal because not all of us are proficient in the language of music. Have been dreaming about drumming for years and years and years, and I finally went out and bought a pad and some 5a's. With your lessons i feel confident that with enough time and effort I will get there.

I recognize this is an older video, but I still have my bit to add. I've been a guitar player of nearly 18 or 19years ( started so young I didn't really have a great focus till much later lol ) but, my dad has always been a very level headed accomplished drummer. So I grew up just having fun making noise on a set. But this year he surprised me with a nice vintage kit that I really like. Iv been exclusively practicing these excorsices and developing my double stroke roll on the pad. My dad and I really like your channel, and this has been a great journey to embark on in tandem to guitar. Thanks for all you do here! My only focus is to groove responsibly!
