God bless Madam Gifty, from 2010 when I entered MEGHIS, anytime I was sick till the time I completed and left, she made sure to call my Dad, and also made sure I was taken to Tetteh Quashie for treatment and even paid bills when my dad was not available. I have a reason to remember this again. I am sure she didn't do that for just me

I have gone through this before. I went to GHANASS, Koforidua. I ate something from the dinning hall and it gave me a serious allergic reaction. I went to my house mistress and she didn’t mind me. The next day my face and body was swollen 3x the normal size. I decided to go to the senior house mistress and other house mistresses, but none of them gave me the exiat. Also the school nurse comes once a week, but she didn’t come that week. I had to call my grandma to let her know that this is what is going on and thankfully I was able to take a picture of my face and showed it to her (I used a sister’s phone). My grandma rushed to the school and the security man didn’t want her to get inside claiming "it’s not visiting so no parents are allowed in the school”.
My grandma got so mad and said, “GHANASS is not the only school in Ghana and if they sack me from the school just for getting medical attention, then she will take me to another school!”
So yes, this nonsense must stop. A lot of students go through this situation in boarding schools. Hmm

This nonsense is VERY prevalent in our high schools.
This nearly happened to my younger brother... They warn the kids to never call home when they are sick, that they should instead go to the sick bay or the closest clinic in the area...
Imagine an 18 year old boy comes in sick and his blood pressure is 160/44, something so abnormal and you give him maleria treatment and send him away... He called home(as I'd told him to do if it's urgent) and we told him to go and ask for permission to come home so we can handle it properly, these idiots denied him permission... We had to go there and bring him home ourselves that very day.
Long story short, it took the doctor 2 weeks of running various tests just to diagnose the kid due to the abnormal nature of his condition.
Imagine if he had been taking maleria medicine all that time, eating the malnutritious food they provide for their dinning or worse, Gari and such...
Needless to say, we comot am from that school!
I honestly, wouldn't be surprised if it came out that the girl reported in sick and showed early symptoms of some deadly disease a week prior to this incident, and the school nurse didn't take her seriously.
I don't understand why Ghanaian school authorities treat the students like prisoners!

There should be an investigation into the menu, quality and quantity of the food the students (all SHS) are taking in, especially since the free SHS started. My little sister has been complaining about this stomach issues, I have never taken it serious, but this video has advised me. I call on all interested media houses to investigate these issues.

I completed Aburi Girls in the 2008. I was a health prefect and to be honest, it is one of the difficult positions to occupy. As a health prefect, I can’t count the number of times I had rush sick students to Tetteh Quarshie even during prep time. The school nurses quickly referred cases to the hospital and you don't go alone you always go with a health prefect and the school drivers. This case isn't adding up. There should be further investigation as why they neglected the poor. Negligence paa. Mrs Asempa would not allow this.

Truth is, most of the nurses at the sickbays don't give diagnosis at all. Majority of them are unprofessional. Some are old folks who's probably outgrown their medical experience. As a female student, you were subjected to take pregnancy test even when you complained of a headache.
Paracetamol was administered for almost every ailment.
On this note, instead of just mere nurses, professional doctors should be allocated to every school, and reshuffled every academic year to avoid complaisance.

Thissss! The nurse who claimed she wasn’t sick isn’t a real nurse then, she should have her license revoked! If she was truly a nurse she would have run some tests on the girl to know whether she’s sick or not rather than dismissing her under the guise of her “lying” . This thing was very avoidable that’s what is very painful !!

The nurses at the SHS are not professionally trained.most of them are community nurses because they can't pay the diploma and degree nurses. At least once a while PAs can be sent to assist the nurses.
They've made everything strict back in SHS. It happens a lot and they cover it.

Due to dumsor and my poor eyesight, I missed a couple of steps and sprained my ankle in St Louis Senior High School. I went to the school nurse to use hot water and a cloth to massage my ankle, she just gave me deep heat. Till date, if I walk for a small period of time, then my ankle and foot becomes swollen.

They will never call your parents o Sheldon , I experienced it there myself, I was saved by a teacher who came there to see the nurse at the sick bay and saw me lying there,
They tell u you are faking when u tell them u are sick, that man secretly called my mom to come pick me up, honestly I’m not surprised at the negligence part cos they don’t believe u when u tell them you are sick. God saved me

There are alot of cases where a patient dies from a random disease she didn’t previously have. I won’t be shocked that ,other similar deaths have happened at the school. Finding it makes suing them easier+ the school was foolish to lie about not having cars. She also died in public 🥲and not even in a sick bay; this means the school showed like 0 concern. If they showed more concern and urgency it could have been averted. This is so sad, a young girl who had so much potential😏 dead bcos negligence

The most painful part is Ghanaians will talk about it but unfortunately this news will not be talked about again in some few weeks to come however this child’s parents are going to carry THIS PAIN FOREVER TO THEIR GRAVES.
If the child had been a DBEE, they would have paid attention to her. I remember very well in SHS, I had serious pain due to my wisdom teeth coming but I was given paracetamol. Not been able to eat, drink or sleep well because of the excessive drooling as even swallowing was painful.
On another occasion, I had another problem on one of my fingers but the school nurse used syringe to burst the swelling to drain the pus instead of giving me antibiotics. Another lady in the same dorm had the same problem, she was given exeat to go home for treatment.
Even if the child was faking, it is better to seek treatment for her than to make this mistake which can never be reversed. Hmm Ghana

Aburi Girls teacher careless about the health of students unless your parents are rich and brings them present on visiting or random days. The school has two compounds, my friend fainted at the second compound in class during prep so we rushed to call a teacher with a car to send her to the sick bay not even the hospital he literally opened his mouth and I told us he won't go. That school!! Hm 🥺

The school had an ambulance to carry the dead. Ohemaa is my cousin and loosing her out of negligence which could avoided is very painful.
I was at the Dad's house whole of this week, non of the teaching and non teaching staff have step foot in the house.
We are still waiting for the the The head, housemistress to say something about the death of Tracy.
The Mistress , Rita Anane claims she has cold and cannot talk.
When the father arrived , this woman was on her phone playing games or watching something on her phone.
" Are you guys now coming" this was what she asked the parents ....What a F******k!!!!.
Tracy is gone, nothing can bring her back even though we the family will make sure vengeance takes it cause, how about the rest still on campus (Aburi girls) and other Secondary schools in Ghana?
I have witnessed nurses who didn't care when my wife was seriously in labour, they told me there was no bed, after a while when I did the "norm" the nurses finally got a bed for her to safely deliver.
    How about the school clinics?
    Oh Ghana!! Mother Ghana...hmmm

In Aburi Girls, they wait till they get a number of people who are supposed to be sent to the hospital so they send everyone. You have to contribute to pay for transportation else you won't be sent. When the so called nurse gets there with you too, she will leave you there and go back to the school. Howw????!!!! 😭😭

This thing happens quite often and it’s getting annoying. My younger brother got sick and went through the same thing. Fortunately he called me and I told him to forget about taking an exeat and come home. We had to quickly rush him to the hospital where he spent 2days. If he had stayed in school without taking matters into his own hands, he would have ended up like this poor girl. I just wonder what kind of idiots we have running the schools
