What do you guys think of the new iPad Pro / iPad Air?
There ok that’s it
Without the Apple Pencil pro meh but the new squeeze feature is a game changer
Expensive for nothing,is just a tablet😂
I'm looking for a comparison pls tell me what's the difference between a 'ipad Pro 2022' with an M2 chip and the new 'Ipad AIR 2024' also with a M2 chip? (the only difference I could find is the display refresh rate 120hz vs 60 hz) and why I get the Idea that the Ipad Pro 2022 just gets a new coat with the Ipad Air 2024
During the Apple event my thought process went like this: "Gorgeous device but I have a MacBook Pro --> I think I'll get the new Air instead --> I don't need a new Air, I'll wait for the Air 5 to go on sale --> I don't need an Air at all, that iPad 10 looks good and the price is reduced! --> I'm happy with my mini 6, I'll just stick with it".
Now, if they had announced an iPad mini 7 I had my credit card ready.😂
Bingo!
Yep 💯
Mini is the true ipad! Easy to hold, to type, to write and to read
Bingo. I love the iPad mini went from the regular iPad to that one.
@@BlizzardWind99all I pads are great to hold
I don't know if it was because of the mics themselves, but the change in your tone could really influence what people think of the mics.
I ask out of genuine curiosity, why not say a simple test sentence and record it on both simultaneously?
I see tablets as a complement and not as a replacement for a computer. I use an ipad pro (previous to the m1 model) which was handed me at work (civil engineer) and it's a fantastic device but it can't compete with my laptop.
What do you on them to complement your work?
Also an engineer here. So would like to know how to use them properly

Wow; how crazy is it that a 5.1mm iPad with M4 is twenty-something percent more performant in both single, and especially multi-core, than the MacBrook Pro 14 with M3? I know the M4 is obviously a generation newer, but for a device that thin to be able to provide sufficient power and cooling to make it that much more performant than a device that is three times as thick, AND that has active cooling, is so darn impressive.
Well geekbench has included ai benchmark which makes m4 faster. If we remove ai it is only 3% faster than m3
The Galaxy Tab S9 ultra has the same thickness and is much more convenient with its 16: 9 ratio than this Ipad
@@abricot68only for video, less convenient for everything else
Has anybody actually tested this in real life or are these just apple release numbers?
@@xsleeptodreamx Not even for video. Tandem OLED is better.
3:10 is all I've been waiting to see. The OLED truly has better color reproduction.
5:09 It appears you have Ambient mode in the CZcams app switched on here on the iPad, just in case anyone is wondering why the black bars are not black.
Broooooooooo. I been wondering what my CZcams app was doing. I don't mind during the day, but watching at night is like BLAAAAMM!!!
@@jamervehedeos5587 Yeah, when they added that and my app updated I thought for a second my old iPad was on the way out or it was a bug, then I saw that new setting and turned it off as I don’t like how that looks at all.
@@jamervehedeos5587 its crazy.. everyone is deciding to do everything in gradients and shades of gray more and more lately as OLED gets more and more popular, and its just silly
The five holes on the camera island are all of different sizes. Apple can make the LiDAR the same size as the camera. They can also make the microphone hole larger to match the ambient light sensor. This will look much better. I can’t understand why Apple went with this very un-Apple camera island.
As Dave 2D points out in his review of this year's iPad Pro, the pro model from 2018 is still more than sufficient for 95% of people and use cases. Don't get me wrong, the OLED and svelteness of the 2024 model is amazing, but I doubt it's going to make any meaningful difference to 99% of users and use cases compared to the M1 (2021) and M2 (2022) iPad Pros. However, Apple's marketing campaigns always get tons of people, myself included, to *CRAVE* their latest and greatest devices.
You're going to ignore the fact that Dave Lee is buying one, his first new iPad in 6 years,, are you?
@@roryonabike5863 he has a specific reason to buy the new one which is to run multiple camera setup on his studio, now how many people are going to be doing the same?
@@papagee325 There are a LOT of people interested in multicam, which is why Apple put a lot of emphasis on it, and the improvements to Final Cut and Logic Pro for iPad are not minor. What do you use one for? Crossword puzzles?
Hi Matthew. Thanks for the video! I love to draw and wanted to get an iPad for a long time. Especially was waiting for the new iPad Air. But the screen brightness and the refresh rate was disappointing and pro is too expensive. I would like to buy an optimal iPad for me to draw, read books and take notes but especially it should be above average quality when it comes to digital artwork. Do you recommend iPad Air or maybe previous versions of iPad pro?
Thank you for discussing the magic keyboard colors. I like white for the fact that it shows less grease etc. However, not sure i like the white keycaps and overall color on the inside with this version on this version. I'll just have to decide in person.
A straightforward honest review is worth its weight in iPads. I’ll be watching for your reviews. Thanks Matt!
Thanks! I appreciate it!
I started playing a game on the Pro in the Apple Store and was startled by how loud it was. What was weird was that when I went to turn it down the volume down was on the left in landscape mode (so nearer the corner) and when in portrait mode it switched to the other (lower/right) button. He said it “made sense”. Didn’t make sense to me as my current iPad doesn’t change like that.
Great video! Appreciate your honest comments! 👍🏼👍🏼
You’re welcome!
Going to finally upgrade my IPad Air 1st Generation to the IPad Air 6 anythings going to be a huge upgrade for me. Video was great and the last minute, the biggest help.
I have a 2nd generation iPad Pro, would the new iPad Air be an upgrade for the most part?
I'm planning to buy the Base M3 Pro MacBook Pro this week. Is it still a good option? I'm just bit confused because now we already have M4 chips, so they might drop the new MacBook Pros in the near future. Any Suggestions?
I am surprised that the new Apple Pencil Pro and the keyboards are not priced at $169, $359 and $419. Instead, they are at the same prices as the previous generation, which are still sold without any discounts. You are kind of getting more value in the accessories if you buy the new iPads
Hey Matt,
with the new ludicrous M4 upgrade,
does it support output of 120hz to external monitors though?
4k 120hz to be exact.
A bit dizzying and jarring for me to let my eyes keep changing from the 120hz ipad to a huge external 60hz monitor.
I asked an Apple rep and he said that external hubs are supported. I would assume 120 Hz monitors would be
More interesting dilemma is to shoose between iPad Pro 22 vs iPad Air 24. They are nearly same price but have different specs..
5:40 That’s why I always come to your channel. The display.
I agree on that statement about can't get everything done! I always got to go back to Mac to get things done efficiently, iPad needs MacOS or a huge upgrade to iPadOS
Agreed! It's too bad because its a beautiful piece of hardware
Since you have seen it in person, can you rate the Samsung S9 display and M4 iPad Pro display on the scale of 10 when compared?
So I currently have the 11 inch iPad Pro m1 and planning on upgrading to a bigger version, the iPad Pro m4 is just too powerful for me, and advice which one I should get the air m2 or the iPad Pro m2 I’m just mainly taking notes so i wanna get the 12.9 inch display
0:30 This is the reason why I won't switched to ipads until they develop full desktop OS.
That will never happen, that will canibalize the Macbooks. Have you wondered why Apple has not added touch screen on Macbooks?
These iPads will never replace laptops/Macbooks, the use case is totally different.
They're great for pdf annotations, but their sandboxed file system is a pain. When you add a file from another program, it's usually imported
In contrast, you could set up live p2p file syncing, or schedule file syncing to backup any folder of your Android device using syncthing or other cloud tools.
@@yensteel When iPads were invented, they were developed as one app used at a time, with that app being sandboxed. Fundamentally, iPadOS will always be second to a desktop OS like macOS. If people understand this basic precept, they will work within those confines. Android is not sandboxed though I have heard rumours Google is developing that feature. Whether they will implement by default is another question as Android is open source and iPadOS is proprietary.
Remember when we had Infinity Blade or demos? Apple doesn't even have any software to show off the M4 because nothing is coming for it.
Great overview.
Great vid and comparison.
Thanks! 👍
Great honest review! We need more honest opinions for reviews and not just sponsored or people yapping about products they have no idea about, basing their opinion purely on first impression. Keep up the great work!
The new M4 iPad Pro is amazing. I’ve been watching reviews, and just about every one says they’re loving this new model.
You always do a really good job on your videos, thank you.
You’re welcome! Thank you for taking the time to watch some of them
Does the pencil work better for standard display or nano display ?
The M4 seems incredibly powerful, so much potential in this one, i wish they gave the ipad macOS
Who knows… maybe they will be able to Dualboot. iPad sales would go up. Potentially cannibalize MacBook Pro sales but who cares.
Apple will never allow Mac apps or macOS on a tablet and it has nothing to do with cannibalization. It’s because it would kill the iPad. It is very hard to write touch apps. If Mac apps were allowed, developers would stop developing any iPad apps. That effectively kills the iPad. Apple would be stupid to kill off the best tablet in the world with no one even close. On top of that Mac apps are touch hostile, so not only would app development stop, but any existing apps would be miserable to use. The iPad would go from the best tablet in the world to the worst.
@@techinrl9869 That is only part of it... What Apple wants to keep is its App Store lock in so they get a cut of everything. Macs do not have to go through the app store and it lets you bypass giving Apple their cut of everything. They make TONS of money through this
Which is good for business ?
The sound seems like it has a bit less depth compared to the 2022 pro
Agreed, my Air 5 suits me for taking notes...looks nice though
Can you use the older Magic Keyboard with the new iPad Pro or Air?
Not with the pro but I believe with the air
Where can I get the wallpaper in your thumbnail?
I have the 2020 12.9” 1tb.…getting the 13”2tbM4…sorry got to have it…not sure about the nano finish but I am all in...
I'm more interested in what iPadOS will bring this year. I don't expect much, but I still want to see as for me it's the main crippling point for iPads that hold them back.
If you want the M4 power, just wait for the Macbook Air with the M4 to come out , will probably be cheaper than the Pro, magic keyboard and pencil. It will also have MacOS, so can do more with it.
well done, thanks
Thank you too!
Hi, thanks for your video but I wish someone would tell if with he OLED screen on the Ipad Pro you can work outside? Do we see better ? 🙏
Of course the SDR brightness is 1000nits. It's plenty good outside
Where can we get that wallpaper that is in the thumbnail
Nice video I have enough iPads in my house lol 😂
Better sound 2022
Yes!
The 2022 Pro has 4 speakers compared to dual speakers on the Air
What iPad do u recommend for someone whose never owned an iPad before
1pad 10 it’s decent no home button and btw it’s around 300dollars it used to be 580
The biggest roadblock for me is being unable to upload docs to SAP via the web.
More satisfying warm sound from 2022
The setting on ur youtube make the black bars black pls so we can compare better, nice comparison tho!
I’m wondering if the Apple Pencil pro can be used in Goodnotes to switch the tool with a pitch, especially fit with GN’s original features.
Good note will be using a lot of the Apple Pencil Pro features just not available yet. We saw some demo's at the hands-on
How do u get IT for 350 in Romania the lowest orice îs 450 and the minimum wage îs 400
The iPad Air 1TB model only has 8GB RAM, an important detail to artists, because in apps like Procreate, the number of layers allowed is determined by this spec. So, people who use the iPad for illustration, the Pro model (1TB and up) is still the way to go as those models are the only ones that have 16GB RAM.
Look at the price my guy 😂
you should compare the sound/screen of the pro vs the air as you title suggested, not the 2022 vs 2024
i couldn’t distinguish between OLED vs Mini LED, gotta keep my M2 iPad Pro 12.9
What about PWM for OLED?
P.S. I am PWM-very-sensitive. I can not use less than 2 kHz PWM-screens.
OLED not using backlight like LCD. OLED panels/displays use PWM 50-500Hz. Try looking at any OLED TV, if you feel the flickering.
Hey Matthew I don’t know if I should pick up the 16gb or 8 gb of ram
8 should be fine but what are you mostly doing with it ?
If you have the money, spend it 😈
@@MatthewMoniz thank you for your answer so I ordered the 512 WiFi + cellular m4 pro 13” I do a bit of video editing in 4k and gaming I don’t know if I should change my for the 1 tb , I don’t need the 1tb storage I’m fine with 512 but if I’ll take the 1 tb will be only for the 16 gb of ram and the 10 core instead of 9
iPad Pro 2022 sounds a lot better than iPad Pro 2024! The extra microphone does make a difference!
I initially ordered the 11” yesterday, but for the price I simply couldn’t justify for myself. Instead I’ve looked at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 9, which in my country is currently half the price plus you get the S pen included. Albeit, I’ve always preferred IOS I usually use my tablets for media consumption, so might be better option for me. Although I’m sure this Procmist be a beast
The lack of high refresh displays on their still very expensive non pro model iPhones, iPads, and Macs is so annoying. It’s so ridiculous the way they pretend a high refresh screen is a “pro” feature when those have been standard on much cheaper devices for years.
I want to buy ipad pro for my arts (my first apple device if ever) what can you recommend guys? Help 😅
Get the 11” M1 refurbished. 256 gb is good enough
5:00 holy smokes the tabs9 ultra just looks so much better. Wow The colors, the detail, the aspect ratio.
Definitely has a better aspect ratio for video and it looks more visually appealing due to the oversaturated colours. But if you look at the shadows in the tree areas and around certain objects there's more detail with the iPad. Also, the Galaxy can't get anywhere near as bright as the iPad.
@@MatthewMoniz even with the brightness I still think 90% of the people would pick the s9 ultra for media consumption. Can't wait to see more comparisons
The Samsung tablets are great for media consumption but when it comes to doing creative work like graphic design, photo and video editing related tasks, that’s where the display falls short. Color accuracy and contrast is key for creative workflows, so the iPad still caters more to those people. But, yes when it comes to media consumption, the Samsung OLED gives you more punch which makes the content look better.
I have the Pro 4th generation. Was looking to get a new one. Which is better for photo editing? The new Air or the new Pro?
of course the Pro
Deal breaker for me is the $12/month Applecare, which I feel you need on something this delicate. I feel its double what I'm paying on my older ipad pro.
People need to turn off ambient mode on CZcams so you can see the deep black bars and get lost in content
I am a future graphic design student who plans on doing a lot of vector art-should I get the 1TB iPad air-13 inch, or the The Pro?!! I’m literally torn and Idk all these tech words
Get the iPad Pro honestly. I am a design student as well and I made the mistake of buying the Air in the past with 60 Hz display and I ended up switching to the Pro for that higher refresh rate as well as the better color accuracy especially with OLED now. It makes a lot of difference especially dealing with color accuracy and smoothness of the refresh rate on the Pro while using the Apple Pencil.
@@MehulSathyanarayan Fair points! But let’s say, hypothetically, I have a Macbook pro already, would you still recommend the iPad pro?
Just wanted to hear your thoughts on that before completely taking this into consideration, if you don’t mind!
@@keavs4564 yeah I still would. I have both the MacBook Pro and the iPad Pro and the two devices have very different use cases. The iPad is a really good machine for idea generation since it allows you a lot of freedom with the Apple Pencil to create. While the MacBook is more of a final production device where you take your preliminary or concept ideas that you created on your iPad and refine and produce much finer quality through advanced software for graphic design or anything else.
The two devices go hand in hand. They cannot replace each other unless someday Apple decides to make a touch screen MacBook with a stylus for it. Hopefully that helps in your decision.
@@MehulSathyanarayan Yeah, you’re right. After reading your comment, plus watching a few more reviews I’ve decided to go pro! But I’m probably gonna just get 11”. The 13” is a little bigger than I thought, which isn’t really necessary for me-I also love to save money, lmaoo.
Okay I have to see the OLED in person
I really want an ipad and i waited for new ones, but i don’t need it that much. I like new and pricey things and money isn’t a problem. I would use it for my personal use just to do things i do on a phone or watching movies series, tik tok… that tipe of stuff. But im debating to buy it or not. Like it would make me happy but i don’t know. Can someone tell me their opinion not money wise. I waited because bigger screen is always better. I don’t think for that use i need an pro just to have it.
Is that iPad oled the one with the etched glass screen?? It certainly looks like it because the blacks looks pretty raised. Anyone seeing videos of the iPad oled and the blacks look more grey than they should be just know it’s probably becasue that etched glass destroys the blacks.
No this is the normal version. You’re thinking of the nano display.
this is gonna sound like sacrilidge but man I wish you could run Windows on it, it'd be the ultimate 2in1
It's really simple. Keep iPadOS with the regular iPad's. Install MacOS on the iPad Pro. Add a second Thunderbolt 4 port. Game-changer!
Give me a true "Apple" remote desktop from these iPads and I will pick a few up tomorrow...
I went with M1 macbook Air for 699 at Walmart. It’s awesome !
Good video a lot of good information. I bought the iPad Pro 11 M4 should be here tomorrow on the 15th. Couple of interesting points I thought I would mention.
My 7 year old iPad 10.5 inch still works great never been broken. Battery is still fine not quite like brand new but gets me through the day. Screen is still excellent. Hasn’t changed one bit in 7 years. On November 3, 2017 it cost me $800. People forget but at that time retina display on an iPad had just started. Bought the first generation Apple Pencil about a year later it was on clearance for $50 at BJ’s in 6 years I think I’ve only used it maybe a 25 times. Because of the awkward way of connecting it and losing it so easily always left it at home it still works fine charges to 100% just found my finger to be a lot more convenient. I never lost that yet. But as I get older, who knows?
One thing I thought was rather strange when I did the comparison on Apple‘s website between the new and the old couldn’t believe how much identical the iPad 11 Pro is compared to my 7 year old iPad For instance, the camera is exactly the same on all models, 12 megapixel. Hard to believe after 7 years Apple hadn’t changed the camera one bit. Also, the physical size was almost identical just a 2 mm difference.
Motivation to buy the new IPAD 11 Pro was because of the $100 trade-in and 10% educational discount which saves another $108. That brought my final cost for a new iPad with OLED display to $792. Apple now is selling it on Amazon for $50 less and I haven’t even received it yet. But I’m still $50 ahead with the educational discount. Hopefully this one works just as good and for a cost of $100 per year seems like a bargain for something that I use at least a few hours a day and is lighter has a better screen. At this time. Speed doesn’t really much matter, but with AI just down the road it may be a good investment. Probably going to drop a few hundred dollars between now and Thanksgiving but life is short. Who knows maybe I would miss that sale.🤷♂️

I own all the tablets s9 ultra, ipad pro 12.9, ipad pro 13in , ipad pro 11 3rd gen the ipad 13in definitely has more horsepower but I still prefer the s9 ultra for a few reasons, the widescreen form factor when watching videos is amazing, as is the screen. The form factor has always bugged me on the ipad 12.9 with the large letter boxes but I am part of the Apple ecosystem and it makes sense to tote around my 12.9 versus the huge 14.6in Samsung ymmv but for my personal uses, gaming, CZcams, streaming movies S9 Ultra hands down.

I'd say its more like putting strawberry syrup on a hot dog and calling it ketchup.
haven't tried but since it's OLED and thus super, super bright and with extremely vivid colors it might actually make more sense than on dimmer displays with less vibrant colors. i doubt anyone would complain about the screen looking muted with paperlike on an OLED.

The power was not the problem. M1 was already too fast. The problem was the software, which limits you a lot in all the possible ways and also, these ipads have 1 camera less and 1 microphone less, while being more expensive. Even with the more power, you still can t do more things. It s great for artists, but for videographers it s not, since the apps are so hard to work on with a tablet, sometimes they crash or the experience is just worse comparing to a macbook air m1 or m2 which are cheaper than the ipad air 13 inches, not to mention the ipad pro with the pen and keyboard that is 2000€. Not to mention the most important thing, that the battery is almost half of the laptop’s one, lasting max 10 hours on the tablet, which ruins the experience
@@alexandrumacovei7174 The problem is the nobody really needs a tablet. There's some people that use it for notes but realistically the people that write notes are students. Most students don't have expendable income (if any income) to buy an iPad. That's why software developers don't care about the iPad.
@@alexandrumacovei7174 I find that argument a flex, as probably 75% of smartphone users use chips beyond their needs. We don't ask Samsung and Apple to stop making such performant chips as they are overkill, nor do we ask them to fork Windows or macOS on smartphones to utilise their power. Instead, we understand they are phones to most, as iPads are tablets to most and laptops are desktop OSes to most.
Thanks for the comparison review. To my ears, the 2022 iPad Pro sounds better and louder with more bass than the 2024 iPad pro 13 Oled. The 2022 iPad sound is better :(. I am curious about the sound of the iPad air 13 2024 at same part of same music.
most people don't use their day to day computer to run a high profile youtube channel - their needs are much lower. Lots of those people would find this just fine for their 'main' computer. Ipad air/pro - daily computer with a consumption and creativity/art angle; macbook air/pro - daily computer with a productivity angle. Both are fine depending on your preference and needs.
Facts what’s a Mac good for?
Anyone with a 13” pro have a lot of grain (put brightness at around 30-40% and open settings, look closely) and some text doubling artifacts? I am going to the Apple Store tomorrow and will try another unit. There are some Reddit threads about it… a bit disappointing considering the price.
I bought one, almost entirely because I hate the mini led on my m1. The blooming has been AWFUL and reading on it sucks
I feel like they should've added an option to turn this into a lite MacOS when connected to the keyboard. Like Samsung does with their devices with Dex.
That would be awesome but apple will never do that. They want it to be separate from a MacBook
@@MatthewMoniz totally get that 100% but a lite macOS version or limiting version shouldn't be tough, right? We're getting the latest chip and you got a PRO attached to its name, after all. They could also make it only available only to 13" to help make that top of the line more enticing in their price ladder strategy
The most they would do is make a iPadOS Pro which is 99.9% normal macOS, but still has you locked into Mac and iOS app stores only... so they can get a cut of everything. They don't want to open it to any app you want to install from anywhere without them getting their cut.

If the content you watch is non HDR you’re absolutely correct. However, if you do watch HDR content and content with high frame rates, the display is totally worth it. OLED is the damn truth and by itself is already amazing, but premium OLEDs take it much further. I just got a top of the line LG tv to replace an old Sony that I had and my god, I’ve never seen movies, games, and tv shows look so gorgeous. And if I’m not mistaken LG provided the displays for Apple. Once you go OLED, you can’t ever go back. Personally speaking, I play games, watch HDR content, and do school work so the new pro was worth it for me. But to each their own. Depends on what your needs are.
Good for you good thing there are billions of other people in the world besides you that have different wants and needs than YOU
@@ShadowCaster3214 Yeah I'll like a tablet that can handle HDR because it looks good when I'm watching HDR content on my phone
Remember that Apple never makes their own screens or SoCs. They paid $2.9 billion to Samsung and LG to use tandem OLED screens for the iPads.
And ?
