- A Cessna 172 is no high-performer when it comes to mountain flying, but 3700ft of pavement is plenty! What a cool strip in the canyon!

Chartered a plane a few years ago out of Moab. We toured the "Big Six" National Parks from a couple of thousand feet and stopped here for lunch. Our pilot was the retired Head Ranger at Grand canyon. It was a bucket list thing for me, saw things that you couldn't see from the ground in a hundred years. Take a deep breath, spend the money, memories of a lifetime.
My instructor told me to check out your videos, and I told him he’s too late because I’ve been enjoying your content for a long time!
You were flying in our backyard. Based at KFLG with Marble Canyon, KSEZ and KPGA regular stops. The Grand Canyon corridor flights never get old.
Flight sim has us all lusting after turboprops and jets. I love how you show how much fun can be had in a modest single.
Thank you so much for these vids. One I start watching I can’t stop. I’m 13 and I am in a couple years I’m gonna start pilot school. Thanks!
Thing is I’m about to be 14 looking forward to starting in the next couple years. Good luck on your written and check ride.
I love the C172. My dad had a 1962 172C fastback model when I was younger. The 2003 C172SP I fly now has more hp but still feels much like our old C model. Great all around airplane.
Make no mistake, this is the best flight documentary series since One Six Right!
I bought One Six Right DVD: it's a good film, but not enough actual flying for me. Great for the background and history and interviews, at least.
Loved the whole series and love cessna 172, this video series has taken me back to 1984 when I was 12 and my dad bought the first cessna 172 (latter added a 210) I was lucky enough to sit in the right seat from Sydney all the way to Launceston Tasmania, shame gopros weren't invented then
The content and storytelling of your flying adventures are exceptional. Both the passion and discipline in your flying style are remarkable. That said, your filmmaking composition, including sound, music, dialogue are worthy awards. If not already done so, please submit this 7-part series (including excerpts) to whatever applicable organization(s) for its proper recognition. Given the information, I will gladly submit such a nomination. Kudos and many thanks to both of you for sharing your coast-to-coast journey.
Everything you do is so well filmed and scored. Thank you! So enjoyable.
I love this series! I started taking flying lessons and the 172 was the first plane I flew, and it was a fantastic aircraft.
1:25 "I always use a checklist." **proceeds to remove the snow with the checklist** 😂
What a fantastic experience you are letting viewers have with you. Thank you so much.
Why I love flying. Thank you! AOPA member since 1984. Licensed pilot since 1974. This is a Masterpiece of environment and documentary flight instruction filmography.
Back in the 90s in got my ppl at 17, I flew for around 10 years but gradually transitioned to fight swimming. The introduction of flight sim 2020 sort of sealed it for me. Today I have a three projector set up, I gradually built a cockpit and now use the pmdg 737 600 for most of my flights and am flying around the world, again...But I still wasn't happy with the lighting in msfs. recently they had a lighting atmosphere update which has darkened the land and made it feel much more realistic, with a few filters it can really be brought to life. Today I decided to divert off my world flight and I flew down from page towards the canyon in the arrow. I didn't think twice about flying it anyway I wanted changing weather, time of day and what really was a blast when another live player flew up on my left side and gave me a wing wave, I gave him one back and we flew a few miles together before parting ways. Nothing beats flying for real but I didn't realize you only had a few ways across the canyon. I think I landed in it a few times before landing at grand canyon airport. I still love watching real videos just to see how close flight swimming has gotten to the real thing. Great flight way cool, I enjoyed the watch.😊
I got to give it to you Josh, That was the best flight series I've seen yet. I'm studying aviation as i write this post with my 2 week old son in front of me. And all i can do is whisper to him while he sleeps is were going to do that one day. Thanks for the videos..... Keep it up
Getting my Medical done now. Insurance done. Cant stop watching your videos.Training coming soon..........
This is nice over Marble Canyon below Lake Powell with Horseshoe Bend of the Colorado River. Great food at trading post at airport which is along the highway. Thanks for sharing.
I rode my bicycle past marble canyon on my way to Denver. (yea I took the scenic route. ) Did not realize how deep that canyon was wow thanks for the video.
bodybait: Did U ride over Wolf Creek Pass, Durango to Pagosa Springs? I'd love to see that! woo hoo! 💞
You need to start your own FBO called Aviation101. You could hold some Fly in's there and feature stuff in your videos. I think it would be a success!
Just wow! Well I know what is going on the bucket list!
I flew in there with a 172 in the early 90s before it was paved. There was a twin that was stuck in the mud at the end of the runway that had been there a while. The lodge is within walking distance, is comfortable and clean, and has good food. We hiked from the airplane into the canyon to the river, and then spent the night in the lodge there. This is an awesome place to fly into especially if you like to hike. The scenery is fantastic. As always, you have created an amazing video!!
Excellent! I was just there - ran the river on rafts. Am going to fly the canyon next.
Always use a checklist!!! 😂😂
100% true
G u m p s
Fantastic job. Beautiful area.
Heading to marble canyon in two weeks in the Mooney. Looks easy to get high and fast on final so I’ll watch out for that. Thanks for the pirep and showing us how it’s done!
Spectacular, to say the least.
I have no knowledge or background in flying, in fact I tend to be afraid of flying, and I stumbled on your CZcams channel totally by accident... now I'm watching all your videos and don't even know why! You're a very good host and have made me feel like I might be able to overcome my fear of flying and maybe even take a lesson or two someday...
That's some serious bucket list contender. Beautiful.
Love the Big Bear airport shirt!!! Another cool place to aviate!
Those hats.. Im getting myself one.. They look very nice!
doesn't get much better than that - GA and the USA!
Great spot have made several cycle rides in there.........motel and restaurant are good as well
Great video! Sound of engine so much better than music.
Awesome location to fly! Need to add this one to the list. Thank you for sharing.
This is definitely going to be on my bucket list...
You need to go to L05 Kern valley for a cool Approach in Southern California
I have always wanted to be a pilot and your videos have inspired me to follow that dream and today i had my first trial flight in a 172 and it was amazing! thank you
You need to come out and check out the Utah and Idaho backcountry with those of us that fly out here.
Also, thanks for the knee board writing pad. I ordered two on your website and they came neatly packaged in tissue paper like an expensive gift. Thank you! They were for my son and I. He’s working on his PPL.
When you put it into a slip, you’ll likely get an erroneous (low) airspeed indication because the pitot tube is at an angle to the wind.
The rock chock was an awesome improvisation. Note for next time: carry a pair of chocks for situations like this.
Thanks for giving us the opportunity to see some more of this beautiful country. Wow!
A friend and I spent a little over a week boat camping on Lake Powell.
I loved the comment about the checklist at the beginning! I'm still laughing about it.
Wow, new asphalt at Marble Canyon. A left cross from Page to the dam then horseshoe bend would have been more scenic and more direct, basically putting you right on to a downwind into Marble.
Nice to see this guy finally realized he needed to drop the "Mr." in his CZcams name!!!! Good for him.
thanks
Just... Amazing !
Guess I'm gonna have to stop there and try the food. BELT sounds terrific
Awesome trip. bucket list for when my wife retires. were taking the plane on a similar trip if not the same route..!
Have been there on the highway.
Kewl country.
Wow! Excellent video. Helps me put together a bucket list of future flights. Outstanding! Thank you.
great job
GOOD JOB MAN
I met you in Oshkosh 2018... was really awesome to meet you. Love all the videos you have made and the new direction you took the channel. Keep up the awesome work.
Brother thank you for showing us the view from the sky
Right! This is absolutely a place I'll be adding to my list of places to visit! =)
Great trip. You visited in our slow time of the year.
Awesome flight and landing. Thanks for sharing.
Great video,Josh you are so good at explaining the whys and where of flying.
You are one heck of a pilot josh !
N9337h you will be missed. You were a beautiful 172 😢😢
Awesome video, that was fun. I happen to like the nerded up raw videos! Very nice.
If you’re ever back in the SW Utah area, give me a holler. Meanwhile look up Mineral Canyon landing near Moab, Utah. That’s a cool back country airport.
I drove through this area a bunch of time but I never saw it from the air like in your video.
Great job on landing. Had me a little nervous watching. Short runway, a little high, and maybe a smidge fast, but you did well. Reminds me of my training at a tiny runway at 0Q9.
Insane man thank you so much
Nice job and congrats on crossing the country josh!
Wow! I hope one day I can fly in the Grand Canyon.
Wow what a fantastic piece! Thanks for making the Canyon so majestic. Makes me want to visit. Keep up the great work!! (4k all the way ;)
Beautiful place! I been to Page Arizona and look forward to returning there . Thanks for such an awesome video!
I spent the summer of 1983 working the ramp at Grand Canyon Helicopters in Tusayan. IF I remember correctly, this was the last year that tours were allowed below the rim. I hot- refueled the helicopters, loaded/unloaded passengers, cleaned up any uncontained "code yankees" (tour pilot speak for vomit). I also got to go on non tour flights with the pilots that were pretty cool, like delivering ice cream to the rangers at Phantom Ranch, sling loading construction material into Havasupai, steady-cam filming flights, etc. Some things weren't so cool, like assisting with search & body recovery when a fixed wing aircraft with 10 people aboard crashed into the rim of the canyon just 30 feet shy of the top. Tour pilots are a zany bunch, FYI. - They tend to "let loose" a bit when not flying tours. This is where I learned my a-hole has teeth from biting into the seat a few times from some of the things the pilots did like skimming the tree tops to the rim of the canyon, then dropping like a stone into it. Whenever there was a good looking woman in a dress or skirt about to go on one of the copters running at 70% flight idle awaiting passengers, the pilot would "pull pitch" when she was in just the right place in relationship to the blades,...a blast of wind would invariably blow the dress up over her head, providing the pilots and ramp crew with our daily high points. I learned that a lot of European woman don't wear underwear.
Thanks so much for this absolutely wonderful vid! Used to fly and hope to get back in it soon, these videos bring back great memories, thank you!
Nice additional video Josh. I am headed to Las Vegas in April to Henderson. Think I will go the long way and hit Page and Marble canyon on the way out. Love the videos keep em coming.
Amazing flight! would love to fly the canyons one day/
Great entertainment Josh. Looking out for the next installment. Keep them coming 👌
Epic flight guys! Thanks. CYBL.
Awesome video man, I live in Arizona and just got my PPL and hope to fly in that area soon. Stay safe!
Ur awesome.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! Spectacular!
"Nerded out raw video footage like this," oh definitely. Thanks.
Awesome views! Great vlog Josh!
I really like your videos
However
As a Canyon hiker and a former resident of the area I think that you should have told your audience the Marble Canyon airstrip is not in Grand Canyon National Park , that the airspace over GCNP is highly regulated and that flying below the RIm of GCNP is stricytly prohibited
Well done.
Nice video. I enjoyed the music and the canyon views. I hope to take my Ppl check ride very soon. It’s all I have left to do. Going fly tomorrow. Kinda nervous because it’s been about 2 months since I’ve flown due to work.
Great video - you took your series to a new level - congrats!
Beautiful footage!!
33N my fave airport!
Super cool video and great information! Just stumbled across your channel, and from one aviator to another, and you have some epic content. Are you planning on flying commercially one day?
The Navajo bridge looks a little different from the air !
Another beautiful video, Josh. Thanks.
One observation, though. I'm surprised you don't carry a set of chocks in the airplane, for situations just like this. But, hey, a rock works just fine.
Well made video.
love this
Beautiful approach and landing
Wow, that's gorgeous!! 👌
That is Glen Canyon dam.
Wow that’s really cool!
Amazing video
