For live albums, try and find the Sign O The Times live concert soundtrack - audio is fine, but video is better. If not then the Sign O The Times studio album would surely be his seminal work. But it’s hard to pick one out of 40+ albums…

He also wrote top hits for many artists and did some great covers himself. Creep at Coachella is worth a look. Fantastic guitar solo.

hahaha..you got skooled by the musical master known as Prince!!! it's all good!
I can tell you thoroughly enjoyed this. He always had the best band -all exceptionally talented and driven. Prince put them through the machine polishing ringer...they all rehearsed super hard. You'lll notice diff band members during diff eras, as you study him more. None of his albums are the same, and there's a whole lotta party to go through (70's -2016)!!!! You'll also discover that Prince was a guitar master...he was just a master at sooo many things that this often gets overlooked. My eyes roll each time i see that "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" performance as his best. Anyone who has seen him live over the many years can pull out at least 10--100's of other examples. I've only attended 4 concerts...but I've dug up almost every live footage to be found. The most fascinating musical enigma to ever bless us!!
    💜

Best to see the live concerts of Prince. "Sign of the Times" concert, "Lovesexy" concert, "Montreux 2009 Prince" concerts are his bests concerts. Montreux has a lot extended jams.

Sign O the Times is the album to listen to. It's a double so there's plenty on it, but it also showcased everything he could do. It spans multiple genres and it's almost entirely him (except for brass and the "live" track "Beautiful Night". There are some great solos own there but he never overindulged on recordings, live he would really stretch them out and give you some jaw dropping musician ship. I was lucky enough to see him a dozen times, including two of his last 6 shows and a 4 HOUR club show. Every one was the greatest show I've ever seen (and I go to a lot of shows). Sign O The Times also has a brilliantly shot concert film which showcases what a phenom he was win stage, well worth checking out!

Prince is a genius. Your first Prince album should be Purple Rain for sure. He has over 30 albums but this was his most popular and the one that shot him into super stardom. Sign O The Times was a live performance movie. It's also pretty epic but I'd do Purple Rain first.

i saw him twice i wish i could have seen him more. all of his outfits and shoes were custom made. his paisley park studios had a full time costume designer and cobbler. he also was in full make up and prince attire everyday of his life. that way anyone who might cross his path would always get the Prince experience. if it appears like a jam session he rehersed his band 8-10 hours a day 6 days a week. they had to play at his level and had to watch and listen for all the cues he could give to change what was being played. his former band members all said he could play their instrument better than they could and if they couldnt keep up he had no problem showing them what they were doing wrong. he played 21 Nights at the Great Western Forum former home of the la lakers because the community group that owned it was going backrupt and he didnt want to the community lose the space so he kept the doors open.

I saw him once in a concert in Nashville. After the concert, Prince went to about 4 different bars, playing a set at each bar in downtown Nashville. There will never be another.

  • @dragonballz4998
    @dragonballz4998 Před 2 lety

If you could shred the guitar like Prince would you shred it at a Walmart in the women's section or in front of a mirror and look at your reflection
Would you shred it downtown on a bus or at a library til they make a fuss
Take your guitar and shred it at a school, then watch the police chase you, while you still play that would be cool
Would you go to Cali and shred your guitar at Amoeba or at tent city while you smoke cheeba
Saw him only 4 times but playing his music keeps him alive. Admit it you forgot there was a football game when he played the super bowl lol That performance was like a concert. At this Inglewood concert , I heard those 3 covers were encores, which is pretty bad ass because does he look tired? Hell no he was doing the damn thing. You kinda have an English accent, you Prince played alot of concerts there, especially at the O2, 21 nights at the O2 on one leg. I've known his greatness for 40yrs now and it makes me feel good when I see people such as yourself enjoy his art. He's just a bad mf who God blessed with so much talent and love for us to share. Keep going!

Spot on with the Springsteen comment. Both he and Prince are regarded as the greatest live performers of all time. Prince himself praised Bruce for his live shows and his band (which is rare for him to talk about other live shows he’s seen).

Springsteen was the best concert I've ever seen after going to many years of concerts. That is until I saw Prince who is now the best show ever and I believe there is no one who will ever own the stage again like Prince did. Following up on your comment about springsteen, he also said that everything he always hoped his concerts would be, that he and his band worked so hard for, was surpassed by what Prince brought to the stage.

You can find some live songs on Purple Rain and Sing O'The Times and there are some releases and some UNOFFICIAL (non authorised) Live recordings.
    · One Nite Alone, Live!
    · One Nite Alone, The After Show!
    · C-Note (four "jams" recorded around the world, basically, in the key of Jazz & Funk)
    · Indigo Nights (it comes with a book)
    · (Unofficial 2CD) Small Club. Live at Paard Van Troje, Rotterdam, in front of 400 people on 18AUG88. This contains a cover of Just My Imagination with a guitar solo that stops my heart (see the link, solo at 2 minutes 28 secs).
I love the Blu-Rays and DVDs (I still keep some VHS tapes) because they remind me of the 3 times I could attend to his concerts in Spain. Grab a copy (or watch it on line) of:
    · Sign O'The Times
    · Love Sexy Tour
    · Welcome 2 America Deluxe Ed. includes this "3 on 1" song and many more in a NECESSARY BR.
    · Live At The Aladdin, Las Vegas.

The friend who hosted Prince when he was 12 is André Anderson, known under the name of André Cymone. He was in Prince's band until "Dirty Mind" in 1981. Prince later offered him the song "The Dance Electric" :
    czcams.com/video/RK1VXPqxuAM/video.html
In the video you're reacting to, there's also a very short snippet of Digital Underground's "Humpty Dance" bass line (the "doo-wee" when he starts playing bass). Digital Underground has sampled some bits of Prince's songs in their albums.
Prince's outfits (and also those of the band) were tailor-made at Paisley Park, he had his own clothing workshop. The only thing that wasn't made at Paisley park were his high heel shoes made by Andre No.1 in Sunset Boulevard. At one point, they were making 30 to 40 pairs of shoes a month for His Royal Badness. And the furry boots you see here also had high heels.
It's funny you're talking about Springsteen because Prince had him on very high esteem for his stage presence.
If you want to react to a full live Prince performance I recommend you to check out the "Sign ☮ The Times" live video or his several Montreux Jazz Festival concerts :
    czcams.com/video/kyJzpdqMDdA/video.html
Not to mention his 2007 Superbowl half-time performance.
And if you want to react to a Prince studio song, "Lady cab driver" will blow your mind.
