Flying colors is fantastic. If you want to hear one of their songs that is the complete opposite of prog listen to "Love Letter" from their "3rd Stage" album. It has a very poppy 60's vibe.

Hi Nick, really enjoyed this one! Love Flying Colours. It's amazing just how instantly recognizable Steve Morse is. One of my favorite musicians on Earth (and you are unlikely to meet a nicer human being).

I was sure you know flying colors !?!?
In there last record, "crawl" (Studio Version) is a masterpiece. I will Be enjoy if you react to this song. So emotional and technical song. One of the best Prog song of the last years.
    Best regards from France.

Hello Nick. So glad you're listening to one of of my favourite bands. Really an all star line-up. They released three studio albums so far (and 3 live albums if I'm right) full of great songs. Not all are as proggy as this one but still fantastic music.
I recommend "A Place in your World", "Mask Machine", "Kayla", "Blue Ocean" and, and, and....

While Flying colors is mainly known for their very well crafted pop songs, they have at least one longer prog piece on every album. I highly recommend all three of their albums, although my favorite is Third Degree.
Casey Mcpherson is the lead vocalist, however, Neal and Mike do backing, and occasionally, lead as well.

First time hearing FC. I’m a big Neal Morse fan, so I’ve seen them mentioned in comments on NMB or Transatlantic tracks. Glad to finally hear them. Really good track. Thanks, Nick!

Every one of their records is awesome, specially first two. Blue Ocean and Infinite Fire are amazing from the first one. From the second one, besides Open Up Your Eyes, there is Peaceful Harbor, Cosmic Symphony, and one of my all time favourite songs in A Place In Your World.

Hey,Nick! Keep going with Neal Morse, bro! His writing is purely amazing on every level. Any Spock's Beard from the first 6 albums with Neal (he wrote everything). You've reacted to a bit of Transatlantic, and a bit of Neal Morse Band so far. I wish I could suggest certain tracks,guy--but it's all fabulous stuff! There are epic tracks along with plenty under 10 minutes in length. Love watching you and Lex react to his music. Keep rockin'! Regards, Terry K.

*Dixie Dregs, Spock's Beard, Neal Morse* fans should WATCH this reaction and those who enjoy "song" oriented material . . .
A Prog Supergroup that show they can write good songs, but also rock-out and PROCK occasionally. I think Lexi will enjoy these guys too :).
Casey McPherson - lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards (Alpha Rev)
Steve Morse - lead guitar (Dixie Dregs/Dregs, Solo projects, 2 albums w/Kansas, Deep Purple)
Neal Morse - keyboards, vocals (ex-vocalist of Spock's Beard Mk-I, Transatlantic, Neal Morse Band)
Dave LaRue - bass (Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse Band)
Mike Portnoy - drums, vocals (ex-Dream Theater, Transatlantic, Liquid Tension Experiment, Sons of Apollo)
Ironically Neal & Steve are not related, but Neal's brother "Alan" is the guitarist of Spock's Beard.
Again, I wanted to feature this video of Neal getting blown away by Portnoy (the mind of an elephant): czcams.com/video/kWbQ8UUgj3U/video.html
    - Yet another rabbit-hole to venture! Super happy you enjOyed them Nick!

Thx for this reaction! I loved the first Flying Colors album but had never heard Second Nature. Open Up Your Eyes definitely sounds like a Neal Morse epic progressive song! This sounds way more prog than the first album which had some progressive songs too. What a nice surprise… I think this is my new favorite song by Flying Colors! 😎

    Steve Morse on lead
Check out Dixie Dregs: I'm Freaking Out. Steve is on lead for all Dixie Dregs / Dregs pieces. You've already done Odyssey by Dregs so Check out Freaking Out.

    Prog royalty.
Neal Morse is busy every year.
Mike Portnoy, Steve Morse (Deep Purple).
3 great albums and more song oriented than other modern prog bands.
    Kayla is a family favourite.

Another side of Steve Morse. Next up, The Dregs (formerly The Dixie Dregs). Dave LaRue on bass is a mainstay of a lot of Steve Morse works.

Hi Nick, I have not heard anything by Flying Colors. What a pleasant surprise not only by the music but the musicians involved. This was really good. I must look out for more by this group. The vocalist sometimes reminds me of the singer of "Nothing But Thieves" There was touches of Brian May's guitar tone in this, which was another surprise knowing how unique that tone is. The 1st change over with the slapping bass reminded me of Genesis instrumentals up until the vocals. Great reaction, love finding new stuff. Thankyou. Byee Jim X

You've probably read in the meantime "who's on board" 😂 Of all the bands of the Morse/Portnoy universe this is the one, I haven't seen live yet. First because there weren't too many concerts close by, but also I am not a fan of Casey's voice. the music is great, but if you have seen Transatlantic and Neal Morse Band, the only reason to go an see Flying Colors would be Steve Morse ... and as far as I heard, he quit music for a while to take care of his ill wife ...
