The thing is that you cannot properly depict the true size of landmasses on a 2D map.
Landmasses near the poles are automatically stretched and appear larger than it is.
Africa being more over the « middle » it appears smaller than it actually is.

I just want to point out that there is no conspiracy behind this. It is also not a secret or a new discovery like the video claims. The maps you see today are drawn using Mercato projection. This projection makes continent in the center (equator) appear smaller in size than it actually is. That is why Globe is more accurate than map. Yes, Africa is massive.

It actually looks like a rhinoceros with a horn or something lol. About the size of Africa... I've always been interested about this topic. One thing that surprised me is when I used a website that tries to depict countries as they really are called True Size Of and Somalia turned out to be the same size as almost the entire East Coast of the United States! Whereas maps always portrayed it as being roughly the same size as Florida =o

This is why people get annoyed when we hear AA's saying AFRICA as if its this one small island.
No 1 African person knows the whole continent no matter how well travelled you are u well never know and master the whole continent with 2000 different languages.
Africans are so innately creative we keep reproducing and recreating diversity every now and then. Example Im a 4th generation Zulu born and raised in Joburg and just recently moved to Durban the heart of KwaZuluNatal a province the sad thing is my accent lingo language is so different you might as well say Im from another country just 400 mile shift is worlds apart imagine a 4000 mile shift.
Though we anthropologicaly and culturally similar we are worlds apart. Its on of those crazy things about the continent. Its whole different world.
What's even worse is the lack of infrastructural development between us even makes us more diverse as we do not connect easily with each other further diversifying our cultures.
to top it all off most of what you would hear and know about South African urban culture would be based on the smallest province called Gauteng which hosts Joburg.
South Africans are so diverse one tribe can produce tens of diverse cultures. Theres different urban cultures and musical genres based on which side of city you are in and with township on the side of the city. In other words each side of one city can produce a number of genres of music and this goes for each and every city.
Then theres diversity in rural culture each province produces tens of different culture accents and dialect so diverse that people will even class each other based on accents and culture EG a Zulu from Umsinga is different in behaviour and outlook from a Zulu from Ulundi and Umlazi and this is one province Imagine a Zulu from Joburg (another province) not to mension another complete different tribe. Zulus in KZN (KwaZulu Natal) dont even believe Gauteng Zulus are Zulus let alone Zimbabwean Zulus called Ndebeles and their Ndebele is totaly different from the Ndebele in South Africa yet more Similar to isiZulu from KZN. Its a great mess.
It gets hecting considering theres 54 countries with even worse (or better) dynamics EG NIgeria is 4000 miles from South Africa with 300 languages they dont even undertand each others languages.
I remeber 1 day I asked a Nigerian lyrics to a Nigerian Song and the way he responded body language an all was as good as asking an African American. He was like I dont understand this language waving his hands across each other shaking his head as if to say "I dont even want to start. :)))

Because the earth is round. Only possible accurate depiction of the earth is a globe. Every flat map has distortions not just for Africa but every continent. We use the mercater which heavile expands the far north and south around the poles and africa just happens to be on the equator. So as long as you can remember antarctica and greenland/canada/russia/scandinavia are exaggerated you’ll be fine

It is not geopolitics . It has nothing to with Africa specifically. It is just part of the math of projecting a 3D sphere on a 2D plane . It is a Mercator projection .
Areas closer to the equator look smaller than in reality and areas closer to the poles look larger than in reality. A projection from 3D to 2D is not going to be perfect and will sacrifice some information. There’s many different projections you can google This projection is used because it preserves angles and can be used to navigate . But it does not preserve size .

This is something that has been discussed frequently over at least the last 20 years. The maps have been drawn the way they are for the purpose of influencing others to believe in European superiority. The orientation of the map is also known to be upside down as well. Even Greenland is often depicted much larger than its true size.

    • @cardinalRG
      @cardinalRG Před 7 měsíci

You're mistaken about why maps contain distortion, and in your assumption that the distortion varies with Eurocentrism, ethnicity or any other arbitrary bias. In fact, the distortion is symmetrical North-to-South, and varies exclusively with distance from the equator. That's why Greenland is outsized compared to Great Britain, and why Botswana is disproportionally large as compared to Kenya.

Africa is the richest of all the seven continents in terms of mineral resources (which other continents need to advance technologically and more). Yet, the poorest in terms of GDP - it's not really adding up. The reason is not far-fetched - the continent is being raped every now and then. That is why we need a unified front - a United Countries of Africa (UCA). Let's draw our own map and make our own things, too, so that others will not determine our fate, anymore.

The sizes of the continents are relative to how it's viewed. For starters the map of the world is still drawn on the round nature of the earth. So depending on the projection of the drawing Africa or the lower parts of map is obscured based on the fact that the view is projected from the upper part.. Here's an example. If you put different stickers on a ball.. If your interests of view is the top orr upper parts of the ball you don't see much of the sticker on the lower part. You will clearly see all the stickers on the upper part.. Thats exactly what the west wants us to see. To see more of Europe and the upper continents and less of the lower continents..

The size of Africa drawn on the map was done for a specific reason: to marginalize Africa. Even today, ‘map experts’ state that the true size of Africa cannot be drawn. The truth is that if the true size of Africa was revealed, it would marginalize the true size of Europe and the United States. It takes 6 hours to fly from Miami to LA. To fly from Morocco to Cape Town, South Africa; it would take 12 hours.

No continent on earth is as exploited of its natural and human resources by peoples of other continents namely Europe, Asia, and the Americas for centuries as the African continent. And this exploitation still continues to this day. It is also the continent where our people are turned against each other on the basis of our tribal differences with the outsider bringing their form of religion namely, Islam and Christianity to perpetuate the division among the people.
Africans are also very much aware of the growing influx of oriental religions such as Buddhism, Hinduism, and Sikhism on the continent. These in my view, are all being introduced to counter the ever-present influence of the Abrahamic religions here.
In other words, just as the Europeans and Arabs fought over the turfs of Africa using their religious pretensions over the centuries, the Asians have joined the fray in order to further divide the continent so that like Europeans and Arabs before them, reap the rewards in mineral resources and other sources of wealth from this blessed continent.
A people or more appropriately, a house divided against itself shall not stand...it says so somewhere in the Christian Bible. So, Africa has been made a house divided against itself in Biblical proportions by those with the Bibles, Korans, and recently other forms of "Holy" Books. If Africans and their descendants in the diaspora could acknowledge what truly is the story of Africa as we could see it today, and determine collectively to work towards changing this story, then this planet would indeed see and acknowledge the greatness not only of the continent but all of its peoples.

I am an African of Nigerian stock, and I cannot wait for the day every African will rise up as one across the globe and reach out to each other, irrespective of tribes, tongues, and religious beliefs to embrace one another using every form of communication. And to agree that it's time to UNITE, to be free from the shackles of oppression from within and from those far away. To harness our resources for the reconstruction of the continent and its people by ensuring that our old and tired rulers and their puppet masters and gatekeepers are effectively retired or banished within the continent.

If you see the different projections in the video, you see almost no change in Africa, so technically Africa is the only continent that's presented about right and the more north or south you go the more the map will be warped (blown up). But this is all common school knowledge, nothing new. We had a globe in school for that reason. Of course the Africans never draw a map of Africa, they didn't had the means or technology (big ships to sail around the continent) to do that. And of course the first maps where off, try sailing around a continent the size of Africa with primitive navigation tools and draw an accurate map, people have no idea what a challenge that is. All the maps of the interior of Afrika are more recent, because Europeans couldn't really enter the continent itself before the invention of modern medicine, it was just too dangerous and deadly. Before 1800 Europeans just roamed around the coastlines.
