For the chunky weight yarn check out the essential beanie. This pattern offers 5 or six yarn weights. I knit it in sport and in chunky and it is fantastic.
Idk much about adding zippers in to knitting, but in sewing typically if you can't find the right length zipper you would go with a longerzipper since the end can be tuck in/cut after it's sewn in

Don’t feel guilty about the test knit! Life happens and at the end of the day test knitting is more of a favour and contribution to the community to have well-written patterns than anything else! You can still send any notes you’ve made to the designer and I don’t think you need to buy the pattern! Totally understand your guilt and burnout of test knits but like I said life sometimes just gets in the way and test knitting isn’t a contractual thing!
I’ve been waiting that Sandnes Garn Icons booklet for so long now! I’m amazed you found a copy!! All of the patterns are so classic and would make heirloom worthy knits. Can’t wait to see your versions :)

When you sew buttons on the shoulders of your orange sweater it will look if it can be opened en it’s normal you have two seams.
