  • I reflect back on the HoloCure items tier list I made a few months back and address some of the suggestions around what to change! That's it. Uhhh that's the video. Character tier list later this week!

    I like the more nuanced categorizing approach rather than just a standard tier list, but I like this content where you did a mixture of both :D
    Edit: I was a dummy and did the math for 20 minutes, even though endless doesn't hit yagoo stage until 30 minutes. Also, my justification for the math I used for the number of levels gained was incorrect when I went to explicitly prove it, but it's roughly correct in testing (but the math for how much you gain from X amount of levels is correct). I think the overestimation of levels earned and underestimation of time spent roughly balanced each other out, which is why it looked right even though the math was wrong. Gonna try to use a script to record data from some practical tests and see if I can get anything valuable when I run regression tests after sorting for anything that would impact xp gain.
    _I started writing this before switching over to watch your first video, so I don't know if you crunched the numbers in that one, but here's some fun math on xp items that's gotten me a lot of all-time high ranks on the endless leaderboards over the past couple of days while grinding for 100% fandom completion._
    I think researcher's coat is by far the most slept on item in the game simply because it doesn't "feel" good, but some basic math can really quickly illustrate why it's insane to take every single game. Since the xp gain is a % value, you can conveniently exclude level xp scaling as a factor in the calculation, which is pretty nice (I've verified these results with practical tests to make sure I wasn't being dumb with the calculations). 4% of a level every 2 seconds equates to 120% of a level per minute. If you extrapolate this out to 20 minutes, that's 2400%, which- after subtracting 3 levels from the levels you had to invest in it right away-is *21 bonus levels.*
    Since you generally overcap pretty easily in this game, I like to think of it in terms of the stat bonuses you can get from 21 base stat levels. If you invested this entirely into damage bonuses (which is not the most efficient way to increase damage), it already equates to a staggering 168% damage increase. This is before factoring in multiplicative scaling modifiers from items (holy fire, glasses, mask, etc.), stats (haste, crit, crit damage), and passive abilities. IMO, that already qualifies it as being a God tier item to pick every single game if you are able to stay at (or quickly recover to) full hp with your build.
    Compare this to study glasses (which I'd say is also a take-every-game item). Study glasses has quicker returns on the 5 levels you put into it, but only gives 8 bonus levels by level 100 after subtracting the 5 you invested (100 -> 113). With the fun equation the game uses for xp growth, it accounts for a linear ~12.5% increase in level gains from xp orbs. Study glasses feels like it gives more because the xp is skewed towards early game where you get faster level-ups, but in reality doesn't give that much xp, and is mostly only a must-take item because of how OP the weapon damage scaling on it is.
    Now consider the synergy between these two items. The glasses' damage bonus scales multiplicatively with your atk%, meaning if you have +200% attack at level 100 by 20 minutes, it will provide a 90% increase to damage instead of just the 30% it says in the tooltip.
    If you were to substitute any item out for the coat in this example, you would instead be level 124, netting you a 37.2% glasses bonus, and bringing you up to +368% attack (although, realistically level 123 with 360% attack bonus since you likely won't have xp items maxed until after a minute of gameplay, even with turtle soup). Even using the suboptimal choice to invest every level into attack%, the difference just from adding the coat is a relative 64.6% increase in damage.
    *To put it into an even funnier perspective: if you could choose between adding a fully maxed face mask, a fully maxed gorilla's paw, and fully maxed kusogaki shackles OR adding just the researcher's coat, the correct choice would be to choose the researcher's coat (and it's not even close).*
    Have gotten multiple top 10 scores on the all-time leaderboards using character's I only have level 1/2 fandom on by rushing these every game while eliminating mediocre items, then all-in rolling for halu at level 10. Absolutely absurb performance.

    Looking at the tierlist icons again in your video, I was kinda unsatisfied with the visibility, so I updated the icons to make them more visible and include super items (totally forgot that).
    I hope I made it a little better for the future. 😉

      Love what you did with the icons! I do agree that the icons in place of the numbers for levels and weight is a better fit. Adding the super items is nice as well! If I could make a suggestion for sharpening the resoltuion of the icons though - since 64x64 is so small natively - look up 'integer scale live demo' on Google and run the icons through it :)
      Thanks for watching! Love using your template for these videos!

      @@Petrisha Good eye, I didn't even notice at first. The icons I downloaded from the website were already rescaled so I had to download different ones.
      After reworking my pipeline and redoing the tierlist itself (new URL), it's updated now with higher quality icons. Thanks for the suggestion! 👍

    Idk, I think all the items are pretty useful depending on what you are going to build. Some of them are better rounded in case you are not sure what you are aiming for, and some are extremely powerful in synergy with other specific items.
    All the dmg multipliers and the shackles mashed together on Mori can lead to stupid high dmg for a glass cannon build. At the same time Ive found many of the items you have in the high tiers as redundant on many characters
    One of the main reasons I like Holocure over other games of the genre is because the items are flexible and can lead to many awkward but fun results.

    There is an interesting hidden effect that the Credit Card has. When you pick it up or upgrade it (either through anvil or level up), it will cause a free extra anvil to drop within 2 to 4 mins at Lv1 and 1 to 2mins at max level.
    So picking up a credit card and leveling it to max will give 5 free anvils, and this is on top of the already doubled anvil rate. So the anvil basically pays for itself. Maxing it takes 5 levels ups or 1 level up and 4 upgrades, but it refunds 5 upgrades over time guranteed.
    In my opinion this hidden detail makes the anvil an easy no downside item that you always want to pick up if you see it in the early stages of the run. It has especially good synergy with halu or blacksmith's gear, both of which will give a massive amount of anvils. It's very good in endless mode too if you want to upgrade weapons to very high levels beyond max.
    I think that is the definition of no downside. Since it doesn't cost you anything other than an equipment slot (which all items do), and just only has benefits to taking it.

    This is much smarter take than I've bumped into. Small question on how would you think/feel about Idol Costume on Mumei

    • @Petrisha
      @Petrisha  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Thanks for watching! Idol Costume I think is fine on mumei; True Horror has a pretty long cooldown so I can see why people would want to make it more spammable.

      @mahamann7734 Před 5 měsíci

      @@Petrisha the bad thing is that mumei's special has a chance of deleting all pick-ups (exp, coins.), as well as not giving any exp on the enemies killed by it. So there is actually a downside to spamming the special, hence why I often don't even use it, and therefore never take the idol costume while using her.

      @@mahamann7734This is outdated. On her rework multiple months ago this effect was removed and the special now only deletes enemies, now granting a haste buff from it.

      @@justaguycalledjeff i feel like that item deletion is the thing that OP was alluding to, but thank yiu for reassuring me.
