  • A lot of people say the Pe2 gunners are incredibly accurate and deadly.
    I tested it out.
In the video, I am in the Pe2 and the HE111 with 'Ace' gunner settings.
The enemy fighter is an AI who has been set to be my 'wingman'.
This allows him to stay in close proximity allowing my gunners to engage him.
The AI always begins his attack with a dive, exposing his pilot to my gunners.
    These are the results:
The Pe2 is far more deadly than the He 111. Not because it has better AI but most likely because it fires a stronger round.
    - Pe2 bottom gunner fires a 12.7mm HE round.
    - He111 bottom gunner fires a 2x7.92mm AP round.
When an enemy aircraft enters the firing zone of an AI gunner, the story can be understood in two parts: the initial burst, and then subsequent bursts.
    - Initial burst has high accuracy/precision (~70-90% hit rate)
    - Subsequent bursts will miss what no human can miss. (~10-20% hit rate)
What that means is if you can manage to survive the initial burst, there's a good chance you can stay in the gunner's firing zone basically scot free.
In the Pe2 vs Bf109, the Bf109 never survives the initial burst. However, in the He111 vs Yak, the Yak survived the initial burst and then continues staying well inside the bubble for over 9 minutes (real time) before finally running out of fuel.
Both aimed for the pilot, not the aircraft. Both gunners hit their targets in the initial burst, but due to the smaller round of the He111, the enemy interceptor survives.
