  • The little Bobcat backhoe comes through and finishes the footer excavation. We used a combination of the John Deere 329E skid steer and the Kubota U55 to finish the backfill and the block showed up as well. 80lb blocks! This is going to get interesting!

    Good job again and it takes a few days to learn how the new equipment works.

    Makes filing the freezer so much easier when you know what time the deer will show up.

    Make sure you start your block down by the barn on the lowest point. I usually wait to do the footings for the step ups as you go and one step up block at a time. I know you had a laser but it will be hard to match up the step up you done when you are stacking the blocks. Hopefully it matches up for you.

      Yeah we started at the low end and worked our way up!

    My understanding is that the bottom row of the block work is supposed to be a minimum of 6” below grade in order to lock it in and prevent blow-out. Maybe you should have dug a deeper trench.

      We are backfilling to the bottom row. Thanks for watching!

    Just wondering why you preferred to use the backhoe on the tractor when you have an excavator on the site. I would assume the excavator would be much more efficient.

    How are you going to control the water off the hill?

    • @idigit4967
      @idigit4967  Před 3 lety +2

      Great question! The backfill behind the wall will the gravel with a French drain pipe at the bottom to carry water away from the wall.

    Isn't a footing suppose to be concrete?

    • @idigit4967
      @idigit4967  Před 3 lety +2

      Doesn't have to be, for homes and buildings thats typically always the case but for retaining walls you can do concrete or a variety of different packed materials like the crush and run we are using.
