You can't argue with the Sex Pistols music it IS simply bloody brilliant. I'm nearly 63, and when I want to get into the "MOOD" for a music night it's the SP's who do that for me every time. Cheers to the Sex Pistols. Robin Topping 21st Century Boy. Oops, correction 21st Sep 2012 Mauchline Ayrshire Ecosse.
I agree, he just looked so hard.I was lucky enough and old enough to watch the live TOP broadcast of this at the time back in 1976.Everyone was talking about how good Sid looked the next day.
I think you are COMPLETELY right. The Sex Pistols were about a revolution, they were just amazing. They're job wasn't to be the best musicians in the world, they were there to get a message through. They simbolise (to me) the frustration towards society at that time. And they did it briliantly. Honestly the Sex Pistols were perfect. Just by the way that they were imperfect. They were perfect at what they did.
eg...you are spot on, I was 9 years old when I saw this on TOTP, it was an introduction to an alternative to the mainstream crap and I think that a lot of subsequent bands probably owe what they have to this genre of music without really knowing it. Shame thieving bastard Mclaren ruined it all.
To my mind, "punk" means being yourself and doing what you want to do. If you play music, play what you want. Like what you like, talk to whomever you want. If you don't like the rules, throw them away. That's "punk." And if you don't like the term "punk," throw that away too.
Fuckin Pistols still rock some 30 years later....they will forever be a timeless band who changed the face of music....probably more than any other band...well, except for the Beatles
Funny thing how in 76-77 i thought this music was unlistenable but now it's actually pretty catchy and with real attitude. Unlike the posers of the last 10-12 years.
yeah man,the most honest band ever to hit the earth..awsome role models...steve is mine if werent for him id never bought a les paul and formed a band..i agree with you 100%
I'm always talking Bollocks mate ,but Never Mind that... I was surprised on many occasions (as a yank in the UK) at how accepted the Pistols have become over time. I entertained romantic notions of their legendary origins, now lost to history. I was similarly shocked a few years back to hear the Ramones in a suburban hamburger chain in midwest USA.(Culver's) Cheers for now.
Been a while.....think it was Trafford Centre, SW of Manchester. It occurred to me at the time that there is very little shock value left in rock music when you hear the Pistols in that setting.
All cheekiness aside, you have a point, punk was trashed in the US media....most hoped the Sex Pistols would just go away. It carried throught he whole scene, I remember going to meet the Ramones at an autograph session.....so few fans showed it was almost an embarassment.
its a knotted handkerchief on jonesys head(an anarchy in the uk hanky)...its what old british men used to put on their heads when they went to the beach to stop their bald heads burning.oh yeah, great song by the greatest band...
McClaren took so much credit for what he didn't do (although he did a bit) but as the rest of the Pistols say - it was Johnny who designed the image of the band
The Sex Pistols could only come from London, fashionable, arrogant and in Johnny actually pretty at this stage of his career, a fantastic song that just pushed its way into people's lives whether they wanted it or not.
The Pistols NEVER lip synched. What they did was played live in a studio. Pissing off those who wanted to film them mimiming. This is another classic example. However the automotons of the network channels had to do their best to fit them to their doctored recording. In this case the BBC brought the Pistols in early morning to prevent them bumping into any bands who were to appear later on TOTP. This particular recording receiving the famous headline:- Sex Pistols in NO shock, SHOCK !!!
Iggy and the stooges and the Ramones did punk first, but the Pistols started the cultural explosion. Great stuff. I'd hate it, however, if the rest of the world wasn't aware of The Buzzocks, The Fall, The Undertones, The Specials, Joy Division.. 77-81 was an amazing period in UK music.
when good music surfaces from the underground it's not a shame it means it's THAT good- it can rival the masterminded commercial crap ala Britney. no way the sex pistols couldn't have made a stir. "underground" means unpopular but unpopular become popular when it's good _ commercial success doesn't mean compromise. Speach over. thank you.
The Pistols and the Clash were derivative, in that they built their sound on artists that had gone before, the Stones and the Kinks, to name but too, who in their turn had built their sounds on earlier artists. There's nothing wrong with that, so long as the artist then moves on. I'm so sure the Pistols were around long enough to develop that much.
Makes me go cold this song. For a manufactured band they were hugely influential. Cant see fucking Will Young or Gareth Gates being remembered with great fondness in 30 years time can you???
evryone whos talking bout how the pistols started punk .they didnt in fact this song was conjured from malcom mclarren comin bak from NY seening richard hell do blank generation. he went to the pistols saying write a song like blank generation and start wearing torn clothes richard hell dont get me wrong i love the pistols they did alot for punk they were great but shoudlnt be credited with starting it all iggy, dolls, television heartbreakers, voidoids, dead boys all came first
Come on Brad! What do you have against being 50? You are gonna be 50 sometime, why the anger with the age thing? Lydon speaks the truth a lot, way more than the 'guarded' generation of today. Lighten up on Johnny, will ya??!! He's as relevent as ever. God save prune juice!!
@GulKeps08 Your thinking of Glen Matlock who was the original bass player, Mclaren kicked him out because Sid Vicous had a better punk attitude, plus he was good mates with Lydon.
I thought they did the song cause of censoring on the BBC. they wernt allowed to swear in songs so they did this and the Beeb couldnt stop them cause it was vacant even though they pronounced Vay Cunt instead of Vay Cant. I'm probably wrong but seems like a good reason to me, write a hit song and upset one of the greatest media organisations in the world. hell i wish i'd done it
THE BEST: 1 SEX PISTOLS 2 CLASH 3 RUNAWAYS 4 NIRVANA 5 Rolling Stones 6 Iron Maiden 7 L7 8 Dead Kennedys 9 Stooges 10 - Black Sabbath clap clap clap clap ...

Great song...if sex pistols still alive in the 80` they give us much more great songs
The first time I saw this it was like being reborn. Anyone who doesn't find this exciting needs to seriously reassess their lives!!
I saw SEX PISTOLS yesterday here in Athens!!!!! They were F A N T A S T I C !! Thank you Sex Pistols!!!!
One of the greatest intros of all time....Respect.
the guitar riff, bass line and drums at the start say it all....fucking amazing.....
We had the Sex Pistols in the 70's and Take That now, British music, where for art thou?
How come they never play this on classic rock FM stations..? Not only a great punk anthem, but a dogs bollocks of a rock song. Thanks for the upload.
I agree, he just looked so hard.I was lucky enough and old enough to watch the live TOP broadcast of this at the time back in 1976.Everyone was talking about how good Sid looked the next day.
Guys, they are both great bands. No need to fight. Enjoy the tunes.
The intro is amazing. A pure as you're gonna get.
My favorite Pistols Song! Thanks for uploading!
We can argue about who started punk rock over and over and over again but the Ramones playing that first show at CBGB's in 1974 started the movement.
I think you are COMPLETELY right.

great song, brings back memorie's ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺
Much better than the one on the late show.
Thanks for the vid.
Funny thing how in 76-77 i thought this music was unlistenable but now it's actually pretty catchy and with real attitude. Unlike the posers of the last 10-12 years.
This song makes me feel all happy.
yeah man,the most honest band ever to hit the earth..awsome role models...steve is mine if werent for him id never bought a les paul and formed a band..i agree with you 100%
i love his style so much!
I'm always talking Bollocks mate ,but Never Mind that...

the best perfomance by the best band ever
still gives me goosebumps

love this^^ thanks for uploading.
a true classic!!
Great Band Great song
Johnny is so handsom! xD
RIP Sidney
I was named after him.
I love the fucking sex pistols.
The Sex Pistols are legends!
I want Johnny's shirt.
It is the studio version, everything was mimed on Top of the Pops then.
its a knotted handkerchief on jonesys head(an anarchy in the uk hanky)...its what old british men used to put on their heads when they went to the beach to stop their bald heads burning.oh yeah, great song by the greatest band...
vrey very important track......
Rest in Peace Vicious!"
John looks cool in those glasses. That dude had style and attitude before all that was co-opted by corporations and used to sell toothpaste.
McClaren took so much credit for what he didn't do (although he did a bit) but as the rest of the Pistols say - it was Johnny who designed the image of the band
Love it.
Sex Pistols were brilliant btw. It's ironic that you'll hear them in shopping centres in England now.....like muzak.
The Sex Pistols could only come from London, fashionable, arrogant and in Johnny actually pretty at this stage of his career, a fantastic song that just pushed its way into people's lives whether they wanted it or not.
Best riff ever..
My favorite video of the Sex Pistols. They look bad ass.
The Pistols NEVER lip synched. What they did was played live in a studio. Pissing off those who wanted to film them mimiming. This is another classic example. However the automotons of the network channels had to do their best to fit them to their doctored recording.

sex pistols and the ramones the best of the world!
One of the best clips of the Sex Pistols. Steve Jones and Sid look like bad asses.
Johnny was so amazing
Bands lip synched because the record company wanted the same sound on the telly as the radio to sell the single-there was no other way to do it
I was never a fan, but I agree with Dommer1973 that this is close to punk perfection
Iggy and the stooges and the Ramones did punk first, but the Pistols started the cultural explosion. Great stuff.
I'd hate it, however, if the rest of the world wasn't aware of The Buzzocks, The Fall, The Undertones, The Specials, Joy Division.. 77-81 was an amazing period in UK music.
put they were one of the first punk bands to get signed to a record label.

Speach over. thank you.
Thank goodness Rotten didn't make a habit out of those sunglasses. It's not the same without him giving the audience that dark, wild stare of his.
anthem!
The discussion is about bands from the U.K.
god i love the singers voice it sounds like hes low or hungbelow
i've always had a crush on john lydon :P good looking and such a down to earth guy x
The Pistols and the Clash were derivative, in that they built their sound on artists that had gone before, the Stones and the Kinks, to name but too, who in their turn had built their sounds on earlier artists.

I saw AC/DC when Bon Scott was still in the band.....they were not considered "punk" then, at least not in the US.
the sex pistols are the gods of punk
John looks like Anne Robinson in those specs!!!!!
o agreed this is excitement
Oh we're so pretty oh we're so pretty VACANT!!
True that!
Makes me go cold this song. For a manufactured band they were hugely influential. Cant see fucking Will Young or Gareth Gates being remembered with great fondness in 30 years time can you???
The Sex Pistols kick ass!

no there were people before him and steve was the first pistol to say it, watch the bill grundy interview.
its about being young, not really caring, being pretty but vacant at the same time
Come on Brad! What do you have against being 50? You are gonna be 50 sometime, why the anger with the age thing? Lydon speaks the truth a lot, way more than the 'guarded' generation of today. Lighten up on Johnny, will ya??!! He's as relevent as ever. God save prune juice!!
