I think megumi being called blessing is really interesting. First of all, Toji really did love him and that shows how much he’s changed that he doesn’t even remember. Also, Gojo is left with Toji’s blessing (megumi,) and Geto was left with Toji’s curse. Literally. His worm guy. It foreshadows their futures, in my opinion.

As someone who's only seen the anime and had no context of the manga when I watched, I thought the brighter mood during Geto and Gojo's confrontation at the end fit pretty well. By then, Geto is so firm in his convictions that nothing Gojo or anyone says will make him hesitate, much less convince him to turn back. Can't really turn back from wiping out a village. Unless Gojo is there to side with Geto and join him, nothing he can say can really hold any weight. This is just Geto's new normal and nothing will change that.
Meanwhile, that same bright tone *entirely* isolates Gojo. It's that moment after a tragedy when you realize the world just keeps going regardless of whether yours does. He's angry and heartbroken that his best friend has fallen so far, seemingly out of nowhere and with no remorse, but even the scene itself doesn't care enough to reflect it. For Gojo alone, something almost fundamental about his world is breaking in front of him. He's the only one there who can see it and the only one there who can care. For everyone else - the passerbys that don't even acknowledge them and have no idea of how heavy this moment is for the dude yelling on the sidewalk, and Geto, who's far too disillusioned by now to share any of that weight - it's a Tuesday (or whatever).
I also adored the visual choice to use the passing cars as a means of cutting between them, like it's pulling us back and forth. I can see totally how the music could be a bit off-putting lol, but I think it adds to a feeling of absurdity that kind of suits the moment and that idea of the rest of the world just carrying on while Gojo is trying to find any logic in the situation. It's so tense and musically chaotic with all the breaks and key changes and constant movement. It's almost frantic. It finally settles on a held chord as Gojo hesitates to attack Geto only to fade into the sounds of the crowded street when his adrenaline dissolves and Geto leaves without a chase. The music almost felt like the lead up to a fight but Gojo just couldn't bring himself to start it.
Sorry to ramble, I'm probably way overanalyzing at this point lol. If you can't tell I also loved this arc. I've been very hesitant to watch jjk analysis videos for fear of (unannounced) manga spoilers, so it's always nice to find a solid video that doesn't spoil anything 👌👌 I'll definitely have to check out some of your other vids!

I really like the tone of the gojo Geto breakup because watching it from Geto’s pov he kinda owns gojo. he leaves gojo unable to give a good argument as to why he shouldn’t follow the path he’s chosen and it’s the first time in the episode Geto looks and seems like he’s found his way (even if that way is evil)
I agree with those points, and also I wonder if having darker colors when panning to Gojo could add to that juxtaposition
I personally really like the upbeat nature of Gojo and Geto’s falling out. It shows how to Gojo nothing was wrong, and that Geto’s turn feels out of place to him. He never expected this from him everything is confusing and surprising on a bright, and sunny beautiful day. The world moves on as Gojo’s collapses.
I could be wrong but at 4:21, I think the animation style was that way because they were paying homage to the way old cartoons were traditionally animated by hand. It reminds of those scenes from the 1969 Scooby Doo series (especially Scooby and Shaggy) where while the gang was running from the scary monsters, it essentially looked like the background is moving behind them instead of the characters since their walk cycle was so rigid and choppy. That's just my take on it.
that's a good shout. I wish more animators used twitter and outlined their thought processes and stuff.
i absolutely love the detail that in the shot of geto killing the village, the frame of him with the cursed spirit is specifically drawn with the linework that they use for curses

Great video!! This arc is what elevated jjk into peak status for me lol. The little details like the visuals and sound design (im so glad u mentioned that btw) were a huge jump up from season 1 imo, they made the show a lot more unique.
My favorite scene is the transition from flashback to present. The voice actor of Gojo, the music, he who wakes up a little sad and happy with his students... Pure nostalgia 🥲 A truly difficult emotion to convey on screen

I’m kinda shocked this was so focused on the first two thirds of the arc when most people focus mostly on Geto’s downfall. I like the difference here. I’m fascinated by Geto’s downfall, but I love a different take. And LOVE cinematography so I was happy you focused on how beautiful this arc was. It feels very different visually from the rest of the show. It’s so much brighter and dreamier. The contrast between that and the mini arc inside if Geto’s downfall hits HARD. It’s really poignant.
More thoughts. I think Haibara also represents innocence and youth. He never got to grow into his jaded counterparts. I love that we have a character frozen in time like that. I also love that he ties Nanami to Yuji. I think one of the reasons Nanami takes such a liking to Yuji is because he reminds him of haibara and the dream of sorcery really helping people. He has (had,) a pure heart and so much love.

Where our blue is is actually one of my favorite anime openings in the show and in general and this is my favorite arc. :)
I liked the confrontation with Gojo and geto it felt like the world was really on geto side for once like you said he was always meant to be evil so him being in a better mood being evil means he winning
The arc is nice for me because we get to see everybody younger and it gives a nostalgic wave that makes everything feel like a sunset. The humor is just right. Everything is perfect when they introduced Toji fushiguro, he gives such villain energy and I love it. Seeing all of our favorite sorcerers younger makes me feel warm. The Suguru Geto depression is played so nicely. This arc is one of the best arcs I’ve watched. No I’m not glazing, I’m just stating facts. No I am not yapping, I’m just stating the obvious.

Hidden inventory is a great arc and a interesting look into gojo and geto past on how they were before.
Watching this arc,jjk 0 and even the next Arc shibuya incident also show me layers into gojo character then what most people think. Is Gojo arrogant and a bit selfish? yes but I feel some people overstate gojo negative qualities and completely overlook his postive qualities.
Even as a teenager at the height of his arrogance and not caring to protect the weak in meeting Rika and getting to know her he comes to know her and at least to some degree values protecting someone weaker then himself.
Then when Geto basically goes all genocidal you see Gojo lament not being their for his best friend and so focus on making things better as a teacher and so not only he himself won't be lonely anymore thanks to his overwhelming power but also make sure the next generation won't have to go through what geto went through.
Speaking of shibuya during Gojo battle against the curses he could have easily disregarded the innocent people their for a quick and easy win like what Sukana would have done without hesitantion but Gojo takes the hard path and while he acknowledges he can't save everyone he won't go out his way to kill innocent people. You could argue if gojo simply went all out innocents be dame he would have never gotten sealed. Basically Gojo character has a lot more layers to him then just strong guy.
Geto is another interesting case since honestly I find it kinda sad the racist monster he became.
Toji is a whole other case that would take a whole other paragraph to get into.
Overall hidden inventory is great.

Naw naw Haibara was the straw that broke the camels back he was still a little light and shining hope that maybe it will be ok, as soon as he died everyone else started their plan to better the future the way they saw fit for gojo it was training strong individuals for geto it was getting rid of every non sorcerer
You didn't really mention how brilliant that it is the first arc of second season, since it's perfect intro for the people who don't know the first season exist so they can just go, "oh this is occult mystery anime!" while for anime onlys who watched the first season but probably forgot mei mei and utahime existed since they were quite minor characters there would go, "ah, so we'd follow new sorcerers every season?" and only realize it's flashback when gojo appears. Masterful.

Most tragic is a stretch after we literally see Nanami and Nobara die, Gojo get sealed, Yuji get ptsd + depression + survivor’s guilt + self hate, choso has a mental breakdown, Toji killed himself in front of his son, Mahito… deserved everything, Hanami got COOKED, Jogo got COOOOOOOKED, but then complemented so at least he died happy, oh and this is the arc directly after Hidden Inventory.
Shibuya is great but Hidden Inventory hits different. I love that arc especially how good of a job it does seamlessly connecting the dots through 0 to season 1
Hidden is my absolute fave. My connection to the characters kicked in to OD. And ao no sumika, 😢, is the best song of the series because of the emotions and sound.

one thing worth to mention is the slight change of character design/the art style, because this arc was set in 2004, it literally looks as if it was an anime from that time

I’d like to mention that the opposing colors of red and blue are meant to symbolize reason and irrationality during the scene between Gojo and Geto.
Toji crused Gojo to take care of Megumi which led to him saving Yuji for Megumi which comepltely shook the sorcery world to its core with that fallout.
hollow knight soundtrack in the background makes this 100 times better
I think the anime version is one of the best adaptations of a manga however the focus on gojo saying "we're the strongest" about him and geto and then finally unknowningly subconsciously saying "I'm the strongest" creating an infinite fast distance between them, is so much more better handled in the manga although their relationship still handled well in anime.
Also the panelling of gojos techniques is just beautiful and there is not way to replicate it but thats okay. 🙏

I actually did a cosplay of Nanami recently that was quite decent and now Toji is next! Anyway, thanks, again for the upload and JJK content.
