Producer and writer for dozens of huge hits, Dr. Luke spoke with the crowd at the 2010 "I Create Music" Expo about his process, successes and about using technology to his advantage.
ASCAP's hundreds of thousands of songwriter, composer and music publisher members all have one thing in common: they are driven to create. ASCAP's CZcams content is intended to explore the art and craft of music in all of its facets -- from its creation and development to its use and enjoyment around the world. Any content we feature is intended to educate, highlight, support and celebrate our members and their music, and to help inspire and nurture other music creators in their own evolution as artists.

So this is the guy who helps make a lot of the fun music that I enjoy listening to, and that all of the snotty hipsters love to look down on.
+dsmj he makes the music we ALL listen to...the " Im too cool for anything mainstream" crowd still listens they just do it behind closed doors...trust me all these dudes who claim to only listen to heavy metal when theyre at the bar with their friends listen to this stuff when no one is looking....its like a musical dont ask dont tell policy lol
HES ALSO R WORDED KESHA!!!
Thanks to whoever had the great idea to ask him about his process. Almost 100% of musician interviews focus on irrelevancies. Surely what we all really want to know is "How tf do you do it?".
she's the only artist other than Michael Jackson to have 5 #1 singles from one album. and that was on her sophomore album (as you should know sophomore albums almost never do well). its already been 8 years since her first studio album and she's still getting #1's. these are facts.
KESHA is very talented. Perhaps the wrong label
Seems like he was the true engine to her success. She’s nowhere near the charts now that he’s not handson. Meanwhile he’s turned Doja Cat into a big star
It would be the most incredible thing ever to intern with this guy! Holy cow!!!
He is brilliant but I don't like that many people have said he's a total jerk to work with. Being a talented producer doesn't give you a licence to treat people badly!
What's your source on that? Every interview I've seen he comes across like a charming & pretty modest guy.
Dr Tune stfu
Dr Tune Charming is code for how unknowing people describe narcissists. Dead giveaway.
I need to hear/see more videos like this one. Thanks for posting!
Doesn't anybody have the full session? It would be great.
The man is a musical genius.
yessss
#FreeKesha
This guy is very talented
big fan
This guy genuinely loves music, and that's why he's so successful
omg his curly hair 🤤🥰 he's so frickin cute
Where can I watch the whole thing?
Ever find it?
@@herbetplum Nope
@@j00hnnyandr3 The whole thing was uploaded years ago. But it’s prob gone.
Unfortunately it is gone but the one from 2011 is on youtube
Yeah exactly. People saying all pop sounds the same makes me laugh. Does Rihanna's "Pour it Up" sound just like "California Gurls" by Katy Perry? If someone actually thinks that then they have no distinction of sound and aren't in a place to judge music. They can call these musicians talentless all the want but these artists aren't selling millions of singles for no reason; they know what they're doing.
i love luke, he's so hot
Me too, I want him
OK, I CAN RELATE. THAT's ENLIGHTENING!!!!
When did Jason Mraz start producing?
yes, she is!
I know nothing about him, he may be a liar and horrible, but I like his personality based on interviews etc. Also he is really cute!
It's definetly another take. The same take panned on the other side only doubles the volume but sticks in the middle!
Damn would love to be in his studio once! I produce too and sometimes I have a track with 30 channels how can he manage to have a track with like 180 channels and fit it into a song that's just mad but on the other hand his songs do sound so full
Agree, I like to see that the copyright holder MAKES the decision of uploading the video.
Yeh Thank You Dr Luke for sharing your knowledge and talent with fledgling songwriters like us :-)
I wonder what made him come up with the beat to strange clouds by b.o.b. It is amazing.
@HitzHits no worries found it :-) called VocALign®
does anybody know where you can buy the plug in "vocal line" which he mentions at 1.32? Thanks a bunch.
best. video. ever.
The world is full of people who are terrified of anything new. They spend their effort justifying their position of opposition. One must open their mind and really "listen" to new things and hear that human performance and musicality are still very much alive. This guy was the guitar player on the SNL band for ten years, now he is the most sought after producer in the world. He only works the projects he wants to and he applies a deep musicality to everything he does. I'm sorry you can't hear it
It's just a different style of music, trends change. And why are you against DAWs?
I love this so much, I admire the good Dr's work and him possibly more than anyone. Thanks for this as it has proved a few things that I have been wrestling with for a time as correct. There needs to be more info movies from creatives in general as there are some amazing talents just waiting to be unearthed and this clip for example has just double espressoed my day, week and more.
Guys, please help with this.
What does he mean by "vocal DOUBLES" here (7:25)
watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=uNl1qvXU6fY#t=445s
is it an exact copy of a track OR actually another take of the vocal track?
I wish I could see that screen
If you haven't heard of every single piece of software available, that doesn't make you dumb. You need to hear about it somewhere for the first time, and he heard it there.
Thanks! Can you upload the rest of the session too?
yes. wow.
thanks for video!
Who is that beautiful lady beside him?
His wife.
@@democritusdiabdera2527 would be funny if she actually was.
Is that Emily Wright sitting next to him?
Benny Blanco did most of the work on Tik Tok, not Dr. Luke
Dan-O Tha Producer source?
+Dan-O Tha Producer yeah, show some sourcesssz
+Dan-O Tha Hit Maker They both have more hits than you dickbag
Watch his video, on the making of Tik Tok, he explains the whole process, you can find it on CZcams, stop being lazy guys.
Maclain Hunter Yeah, this is true, lol. but why does it matter?
if you make a statement, its up to you to prove it. Link?
Emily Wright
❤️
he was a hustler, real huster, like crak!
oh wow so insightful thanks for teaching me so much about how modern hit makers are worse than musical has-beens you're still holding on to. please tell me more it's so interesting. wow. you're so cool. wow.
People like Dr Luke are few and far between, if it was easy to be a super producer like Luke and Martin then everybody would be able to create chart topping hits. If it's so easy or requires no talent then surely you could make me a little demo to prove it. Dr Luke was playing guitar in the SNL band for YEARS before this. I think he might know a little about music no?!?! Take your extreme ignorance elsewhere people, this is a little beyond your shallow reasoning and observations.
He's so cute!! 😍🥰
Cute? ☹️😔
He is super handsome
@Ask10695 Well said!!!
What a cool human being.
Soo many haters on here. Who on here has produced countless pop recordings that go platinum? Anybody?! Ok.. shut the hell up and take notes!
who is the woman next to him - Dr Luke?
Smiddock Whepp....
@1Rudyd maybe luke didn't make the melody for tik tok maybe kesha did so she's the one who stole it not him
The stupidity of some of the people commenting here infuriates me. Firstly, pop music ia like ANY genre of music it has strengths and weaknesses. For example, country music all sounds the same, dance music is all repetitive and needs no talent, metal is all about technical prowess and has no emotive qualities etc! I don't believe those things but see how easy it is to pick on any genre. I could do that all day.
He looks like he is tired and he has a messed up hair and he also looks like he drinks starbucks coffee every morning and even in the recording studio
ikr he doesnt look like the kind of guy who has a net of 100 million dollars lol, maybe being a record producer aint that healthy
Doesnt mean he didnt do it, but i dont see it in him.
it’s always the ones you least suspect
Hahaha. The Dr. Luke 2010: "I STEAL Music" Expo (Master Session)
He just admitted to being a copy-and-paste "producer".
Oh shit, better watch out or the sensitive, thin-skinned bastard will sue me for defamation!
beautiful limeirense
Who is the serious looking woman seated to Luke's right?
Emily Wright, she is/was his studio assistant
Is Benny Blanco from the Bronx?? Haha 😆
FreeKesha
Y A TI QUE MIERCOLES DIME DONDE TE PEDI TU OPINION
agree

this guy is clearly very talented and considerate of his art form, but i think it's a shame that he works with big names who offer so little substance
You are obviously a special kinda indie music guru. With all angst and emo written over it and jazzy chords in the background. ;) But all I'm saying is, you obviously have no idea of what constitutes "shitty pop music", because Lukasz does top stuff only.
lol well he also wrote and produced that so he stole from himself
I think he's guilty. Just saying!
Why?
I don't care, he is so handsome
bahahahahaha, way to fail at analyzing someone.
creep
How the music is made is skilled and interesting enough, but the actual music is horrifically lifeless as a listening experience imo
All pop music is the same. You just have to get good at packaging it up a little different or nicer than before
This is beyond depressing - this man has absolutely nothing to do with artistry or music, as evidenced by the 'performers' he works with and how he refers to stacking, processing, aligning, samplers, pitch correctors, plug-ins, etc. Whatever happened to true songwriting, singers performing actual vocals, and real musicians? And is someone really asking if there was an 'over-arching musical idea or concept' with regard to "Tik-Tok"?
Let's get something straight. Kesha has no talent. He can't make people talented. He made kesha sound decent but her new stuff is garbage. It lost its magic
He looks so hot and sexy
