I’d say the speed run was actually a win as well for the Traxxas in 1st gear as you’d want it to be slower 👍😎
Love my defender. Can't bring myself to get a lighter body since the look of the defender is what got me into the trx4.
Exactly. It's almost best to buy another trx4 for a lighter build
@@RCReviewChannel you read my mind. That is my plan. Maybe build one a little more crawling focused and keeping the defender for the trails.
@@Uneek637 that's why i have four, including the TRX6
@@RCReviewChannel one day. Got my first rc in January, a Rock Rey. Then came the Defender. Next I hope to get the trx6. So good.
Couldn't you add brass to the knuckles and stuff to bring the cg down while keeping the body?
TRX Defender for the win! I got my defender after watching your channel and I'm still getting so much fun out of it. Thanks Francis!
The two speed and diff locks are the best. Not only can you trail it but it's great to try things with/without the lockers. I try to crawl without lockers until I get stuck then engage them. Love it!
just like 1/1 truck cheers
In a perfect world I'd have them both.
Ditto.
I ended up getting the TRX4 Blazer edition and all your videos were a big help. Extremely informative and fun
Wow! Thanks for the real-world testing and details on all of the strengths and weaknesses. I especially appreciated your Achilles heel vid on the input portal gear. You make it easy for newbs like me to understand the finer points and get a comprehensive and balanced perspective. So much appreciated!!! You never know with online reviews at merchant sites, and too many YT reviewers are just excited about their toy or are probably just saying the nicer things to get popular with sellers.
👍 Nice comparison...I have the traxxas trx sport and I think it's the best crawler trail runner out right now performance wise.
I agree I've had mine for over a year, close to two and just now had my first break...stripped the plastic servo arm lol and I beat it like it owes me money and my "maintenance" is running it through a mudpudle on the way in lol
Love my Sport as well, but that titan motor/esc setup is gone, hate that high pitch note it does when you drive it. Running a quicrun fusion now and it´s dead silent when crawling.
@@thomasgross8289 yea great rig.
@@DirtyRC101 Yea it don't bother me. maybe your ears are sensitive to high frequency sounds?
Yup! Performance, value, durability. Now so many upgrade options as well.
For me, the TRX4 chassis kit is orders of magnitude better than the SCX10 III. Not even in the same class. For US$400 you get everything except for a body, and this includes ALL of the electronics (motor, ESC, 4 servos, receiver, and 4-channel TX). It also has a 2-speed transmission and lock/unlock differentials. Best of all, it's a kit. No food that someone else chewed for me. The SCX10-III kit is way over priced for what you get. I don't hate the Axial. I have an SCX10-II and like it, but the TRX4 is a much better value. I just wish I had bought one when I still owned a hobbyshop...
Yeah most people probably don't know you can get a trx4 kit I just ordered one myself about a week ago
Great video, iv had my defender since they first released it 3 years ago. I bought my axial scxiii kit a mouth ago. I personally favor my scxiii slightly over the defender on the trail, but theres no better truck to pull a trailer with then the defender. Love them both & drive both.
Thank you so much for your videos !!!! The best RC crawler reviews I have seen !!!!
greetings from germany , Falko
The crawler scene has exploded and these rigs are so capable the bar is set so high that you can really be competitive these days almost by accident man. All these rigs are just flat out legit! Love your content Francis! Keep it up boi!!
Your videos got me into crawling. I was blessed to obtain my first truck recently. Scx10 2 1955 Ford f 100. I started rc 1986 gold tub associated.
Nice work on these videos, very thorough and informative. Subscribed :)
I have a OG scx10 with different Axial bodies for it. Never wanted a newer rig but when the defender came out it caught my eye. I usually rock my scaled out Axial Dingo body becuase I love the look of it, but this video has finally sold me on ordering the trx4 defender!
New to the hobby. So much was explained. Understand this is a serious hobby.....almost as much as owning my JKU. Thank for sharing.
Removing the interior and rollbar from the SCX10 III does lighten the body significantly to make it more of a performer. Imagine that removing some of the "add-on junk" from the Defender would help performancewise too. Did find that adding the inner fender wells to my TRX4 Sport allowed me to run a shorty pack up front which really helped it go up steep inclines. Great job as usual FC.
I personally like the TRX4 Bronco . . have had mine for 2 1/2 years now and upgraded it alot for what i do . . Xtra Speed axle housings, bowhouse lcg battery tray, brass installed that is unsprung weight, injora front bumper, modded the grille for a light bar, aluminum wheels, hyrax tires and aluminum front shock mounts . . Powered by a SW4 and a 1800kv Revolver now also and steering from a hitec 7955TG servo
Thank you definitely after this i will go with trx4 defender
Absolutely the best review on these two trucks ever.
love them both
I have three Trx4 models.
next big purchase is going to be the 10 .3 Gladiator I live the long wheel base.
rc review...you rock...🏁
Appreciate it. We weren't sure if this was worth the effort but it's cool it is helpful to people.
Great review as usual. Awesome job!
Really appreciate that. Wasn't sure this was going to be very useful but glad Neil and I took the time.
Thanks for the review, really loving the Defender
You and your team are the absolute best on the net.no it s and buts about that fact.love your way of speaking very complete and pro vids.keep up the great work you do so well guys
Just picked up the TRX4 Blazer used today $300. With battery , light kit , rock light kit . Can't wait to use it.
Thank you for your reviews. I find your videos to be some of most informative in the RC world. The question I have is , why we all seem to be okay with having to upgrade the servos on most of our RC rigs.
Definitely Not OK and we are trying to change the world as well as we call these things out.
Pro tip, thinner shock oil can help your shocks settle faster
Might take advantage of the Amain discount for NOV and get the TRX-4. Did order a spare battery for my Big Foot I have had for tow years. Time to get a crawler. Your videos are the best.
I still have an old scx10 but also a tr4. And i still love how the trx performs.. so trx 4 all the way for me
Thank you for posting this... I am trying to make a decision and these two trucks aren't cheap.
I got the last one yesterday on-line cant wait for it to get here trx4 yea body
I have the TRX4 Bronco I want a Defender next. Thanks for sharing this comparison. CHEERS
I got the 79 Blazer for Christmas. New to trail crawlers but think I like the locking diffs and 2 speeds trans. The Axial seems like fewer options for the same money.
TRX4 but... I do love my scx24's I'm leaning towards trying out an axial 1/10 crawler, I'm just not a jeep fan lol, hopefully they will have another body for the new one! Good video brother!
I’m currently building an SCX10ii XJ kit, they’re getting hard to find now though. I’ve already put the TRX4 shocks on without running it at all and the quality difference there is obvious. Really smooth. Still love the Axials but was not impressed by the 10iii. Shipping with a channel missing is inexcusable in my book. Looks like a panic move. I might go TRX next. Great video as usual 👍👍
Can't help it, still in love with my trx-4 Blazer😍
My 4 yo boy loves watching the blazer on RC Sparks!
I took my Sport out this weekend and crawled with my buddies new SCX10iii. The Axial is a great looking vehicle that does well. The sport is a better crawler but the Axial looks so much more scale than the Sport body. I'm not a fan of the Defender or Bronco bodies from Traxxas. I will probably pick up the Axial but now I need to decide if I want the Gladiator version. Decisions decisions.
Trx4 all day, thank you for sharing this awesome comparison!
Franco
Excellent Video... I purchased the Axial Jeep JL because I am an owner of a 2018 Rubicon and I want to showcase it at the Jeep Jam down south this spring. Surprisingly the Landover Rocked. Performance wise 👍🏽. But unfortunately it's not a Rubicon🤪
I love the trx4 i have two of them ... Great comparison awesome video.
Loving my Defender and Bronco. Adding overlanding stuff on the Defender and stripped off the hitch and bumper bar assembley on the Bronco. I got lucky finding a tan Defender and couldn't resist the new blue Bronco which matches my Ranger. I am interested in an SCX6/10 in the future. My old Redcat Gen 8 just felt cheap and ran really rough compared to my TRXs.
Love the vid as always. What tires would u recommend for all around use for trx4
Just got my first crawler and it was the defender trx. Also partial to traxxas as my first rc the traxxas slash ultimate. I was torn on these two but didn't want a new battery etc I'd rather run my traxxas battery's instead of buying more. I had 5 already.
Somethings I noted about the axial I really loved. The attention to detail on the body. See through windows etc you also can do to the trx for costs. But overall I don't regret it. The axial also has metal suspension links the short usage to my trx I've decided to get skids as mine are gouged up now. Really they're both great. The tires also bigger on the axial but fixed that by raising the body some and getting bigger tires now. Looks like it has a lift kit compared to stock no tire rub on 125mm outer diameter tires. Plus selectable lockers. Given the extra money sometime I think I may just add the axial to my collection just to have but I love love love My defender. Probably couldn't go wrong with either honestly.
I am getting into the hobby now and these are my choices leaning towards the defender.
Great video as always thank you
I love my TRX4, and i have a HPI Venture i use if i wanna go balls to the walls. In regard to the Axial, it looks amazing, and i would love to have one.
Just got the jeep! Wanted trx4 but I really liked the scale engine cover and drive line. Has very nice electronics. Awesome interior.
Right on!
I have the TRX-4 sport and the defender. I think they are the best. I also have four redcats with two of them being the Gen8Axe and wendigo kit. The kit is the quietest of the lot.
Just got the trx4 sport and its a beast..
Fun watching , nice job !! 👍
I am still enjoying my vaterra ascender jk. But I know have trx4 sport tracks. 1st thing i did was change servo and put new beadlocks and tires on with dual foam.
TRX-4 in this matchup, love them. This matchup should have been bronco/chevy vs wrangler and defender vs gladiator perhaps to mimic the weelbase. But I also have to say tho the Element Enduro Sendero is such a great alternative if you opt out of the "semi-bashing" part.
Great reviev,comparison, video
Bought a Defender today, and is very excited! Amazing car! A little bit jealous about the detail parts on the Scx10 III :-)
👍 Wow you’re videos are so informative as so helpful thanks , quick question: knowing what you know now if you had to chose one crawler which one would you pick overall ,thanks in advance
I have a TRX4 Bronco, and I will get a SCX10 III but with gladiator body soon... I like the larger distance and how it looks, but I will keep my TRX4. Trailing is funny with it!
Thank you very much for this great video 👍👍👍
Great comparison nice video👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for sharing!!
This was a really good shootout👍🏽👍🏽
even that i'm a jeep guy i like the trx4 defender much better. what i would change to the defender is 2.2 wheels and tires plus a suspension lift kit
Great job comparing, the Defender has more rtr power butt it's top heavy I prefer the Tactical body my wife has a TRX4 Mercedes G500 I lowered the cg and I have a JLU & JT Gladiator 😎👍
Traxxis 4 blazer .cut body down and mounted .if I'm correct 5.2 swampers .run it in crawl mode.love it.drive around and look for crawls
This really helped me
Definitely want the defender. Just need to save for one. Got my boys, 4 and 6, a couple 1/12 scale inexpensive defender D90’s. Just ordered the metal upgrade axles and drive shafts for them. My wife won’t let me spend on the Traxxas..... 😪
Maybe someone here is sympathetic and will gift me one 😀🤣 I so want to join in with them!
Great review!
These ones are awesome! I was liking the scx10iii best. I have a trx4 sport.
Yeah, it's the golden age of trail crawling.
👍 Newly Subscribed. I keep watching your vids, I figure might as well give you my support also. I trail with my big Summit, I don't have a scale crawler yet but looking to get one soon. Your reviews are definitely helping me make an educated decision, maybe a TRX4 for me and a SCX24 for my son.
Love The crawling course did you make it? or did you find? it or or was it made and you just get to use it?
Looks like a great place! You always make videos at my favorite time of the day.🙏
How well does the SCX10iii Wrangler body fit on the TRX4? And how does it look?
I have a Wrangler Rubicon and I'd like to build a scale model of my full size. But I like the idea of lockable axles and the 2 speed of the TRX4 compared to the fully locked and dig setup of the SCX10iii.
I've got a sport and a bronco, wouldn't trade em for the world lol
Those two are so good.
The Broncos looks amazing. I seriously contemplated selling my kids on the black market to finance the orange/red/black version. Shhhh, don't tell anyone. 😉
Are there ways to mod the trx-4 axles to get a bit more angle?
@@AngryTurds I put a 10mm widening kit on mine,helped a bit..they have been hard to find since
The dig may have helped on the steep rock attempt.
It can essentially act as a full overdrive function for the front axle.
Very true. Will have to try that.
Thanks for the videos. These are very helpful for choosing the features that I want on my first 10 scale. I have not purchased my first 10 scale yet. I want to eventually turn whatever one I want into a 1967 Ford crew cab F250. That was always my dream truck and wanted to own it in some way or another. So Where can I go to see bodies for specific models so that I can choose the shell that I want, and then choose the frame that it would one day sit on. Very specific question but I know what I want. If you could help I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
Still the best comparison video so far.
I have both and I love them both. 👍
The Traxxas TRX-4 of course, I own 2X of them as well as the Sport Kit.
love it. We're in 4x
I have a TRX4 TRX6 and Scx10 3 I love all of them but my favorite is my modify trx4
I think an interesting trx4 to look at is the Mercedes G500. I know it doesn't get much love here in the US but it's a pretty interesting package. It has all the stuff the Bronco and Defender have but it's cheaper and the body is actually a lot lighter than the Defender and also lighter than the Bronco. I tried all variations of the TRX4 at the store and decided on that one because of the scale looks and performance. I ordered some Treal wheels for it and the Class 1 Hyrax, took out the motor/esc, radio, servo and sold it all for a HW 1080/Crawlmaster Sport 550 10T, AGF A80 servo, and Flysky NB4. Plus, it basically has that Jeep profile look that some people miss on the TRX4 only with a Mercedes logo.
Ed: Just weighed the body and it's 350g.
Yup, that one has a body with a similar size to the Jeep.
Makes sense why i like mine so much, also has fenders on frame and not the body.
czcams.com/video/vkClIKBIaK8/video.html
Your job is great but i wish you added a drag race in the comparison. Also the battery durability and consumption. I would like to know which one can use little power than the other. Thank you.
Imo the pull test goes to the lighter truck as this is beneficial to steep crawling, and the speed test goes to the slower truck which is very much more important than speed. the sxc10 in both cases.
In all other cases I'd say they are equivalent.
Both nice scale crawlers
@rc review Awesome in-depth review! Man, I cannot decide between the TRX-4 Blazer and the SCX10.3 Jeep. Both have pros and cons. Best would really be to get both, but that ain't happening right away. So which one to start out with? Thank you and keep up the great work! :)
I have the defender, love it but those inner fenders make it a bitch to put the body on. So I trimmed them almost to non existence and now the body is much easier to attach. I absolutely love those portal axles. It's rock climbing ability is amazing.
Great video. I hope the paint job on the Traxxs TRX4 is better then the one got. when i opened my box and brought it out i noticed the paint had cracked and chipping off also look like a clear coat is bubbling between the paint and lexan. I called traxxs waiting to hear back form them.
They usually represent with good service.
Hey, we missed you at the "crawl for the cure" at Bear river lake... The event was pretty fun, 3 decent courses with 100-150 gates each. I met BigSung there, and Neil with the Capra. My friend won an Element Trailwalker RTR in a raffle... We ended up driving back to Arizona and stopped in Yosemite to crawl for an hour. Maybe we can plan an event there in the future. Anyways, get your camping spot reserved early for next year... =) Great video/content as always. Loved Neil's new LCG truck with capra portals, he stole my idea... LOL
Appreciate that man. I heard all about the event as I saw those two dudes right after.
It was a pleasure meeting with you at the "Crawl for Cure". Neil is really dialing in his new LCG truck...it's becoming a monster. Hope to see you at the next year's events!
@@BigSungHobbies For sure! I will have my competition rig next time. I also subscribed to your channel =)
@@itskarl79 Awesome! Thanks for the sub!
😊
I've been reinstated in the RC4LYFE Family....Hopefully I won't let the fun hobby go again. First, Thanks for this video I am in the market for a crawler and these Machines are just what I need but hard to choose which one to get first.
Traxxas might be my final answer though.
i got both of them and i love them equally but got a soft spot for the scx10 lll
as always very fair, thank you!
My pleasure! It was not easy to bet box stock vehicles but we tried very hard.
Where are you guys based at? You're Filipino right? Awesome video. I'm thinking of getting a TRX4. Been watching a bunch of reviews! Nice to see the comparisons between competitors!
Traxxas trx4 is advance chassis design out of the box. Axial need work redesign to make better one maybe scx10.3 2.0? Haha good job 👍
Thinking Id go with the SCX10.3 but the Gladiator version. :-D
I now own the JT. SCX10.3 :-)
Great video! What trail did you do all the testing on? Is this in San Diego?
I've a two TRX4, a TRX6 and a Axial SCXII, a comparison between TRX4 and the new Absima Sherpa 3.4 would be interresting! Please can you make a Video between TRX4 and the Absima Sherpa 3.4?
Thank you and best regarads!
By the way nice video!👍🏻
Honestly like both like choosing between my kids lol. Both capable. I dint like upgrading until something breaks lol but will see😁
Main difference is the body, I'd go with the cheaper option and if you don't like it get a different one for those 50$ you saved. TRX4 has several options, even short and long wheelbase.
I have both and will say that the trx4 is built a little better. The tolerances in the axles and transmission seem to be bit tighter in the trx4. They are both great trail trucks but I find I like my trx4 a bit better and the thing is a tank. Really enjoy the axial though and am really excited to see how far I can push it
Ourt thoughts exactly!
I think the TRX Bronco, or Blazer would be a closer comparison. I have the Bronco and love it
Bring the sport in to compare!
We went with trx4 kits and bought axial Jeep Cherokee bodies. Couldn’t be happier.
Most excellent choice.
Awesome videos. I’d love to see them with the same tires and see how close it is. I’ve heard the axial tires are a little lacking. Both amazing either way.
So these two tires are very close in performance. We have some tests with matching tires and the results are about the same.
RC Review that’s for the feedback. I’ve only got the trx4 and trx6. Looking to branch out to something else soon.
I'm completely torn on these 2 trucks. Theres features I like and dislike about both. But ultimately I'm leaning towards axial because I really like the spectrum radio. And will probably keep it completely stock.
Went with the TRX Sport assembled kit. Next is the Komodo.
Subscribed already 👍🏽 i have a defender and would like to upgrade my wheels put a lil weight on it what can u recomend boss thanks!! Shout out from Anaheim calif!🤙🏽
