i saw Novo Bono Jr. on tv.A motorcade from Mactan Airport to Cebu City.Fresh from his victory in Tawag ng Tanghalan.I was then a 3rd. year high school student in 1970.How time flies and I am now a Sr.Citizen.Although not a Cebuano I am also proud of him as Bisaya.
I listened to the other singers who sang If You Go Away but they cannot go up to the level of young Novo's style. He made me cry along with him as he sang the If You Go Away where he sounds like crying. He sang with full emotion, listening to him I got carried away. I was so touched but then I still cannot get enough of him who is the greatest singer of all.
I was 13 years old when he won the TNT. And i heard it over the radio here at dadiangas now gen san..actually i am rooting for iloilo's delegate but was only 3rd place behind Novo.
I remember during my elementary days how I grasped closer to my ear our transistor radio just to listen to this winning song in Tawag ng Tanghalan. In my senior years now how I still appreciate this version of Novo. It seems nobody has surpassed this.

With mature ears listening to this recording, I can tell now that he truly is a great singer. Colonial mentality set the biggest obstacles to his success, people often comparing him to Matt Monro. People back then didn't know better. You can't compare apples and oranges, that's a fact. He has a voice worthy of anyone's investment of time and buying his album. We personally kept a vinyl copy which we lost unfortunately to Ondoy. Shame. I hope he lives on and teach the young how to really sing.
This is the first time I heard Novo's version since 1970 (50 years ago this year). We were in the same fraternity in college, so I am still very proud of his achievements. I just listened to Frank Sinatra's version - Novo is better - and Frank is one of my favorite singers. After Novo, Alice Mendez won the National Tawag ng Tanghalan in the following year. Alice was also in our fraternity/sorority.

Oh my, this is a treasure find! I've never heard this version before and was sung by a Filipino compatriot. I love the original French version of Jacques Brel, "Ne Me Quitte Pas" but I also love the English version sung by many artists which is really not an interpretation of the French words. They only share the same tune. Both versions have their own separate entities. Beautiful!
Can the matured.Novo Bono, Jr., still sing this If You Go Away exactly the style.of singing when he was young. I mean EXACTLY such as the way he delivered every line of the lyrics and pauses between and in the last part of the song as though weeping. It was an act of an actor singing.

At this time of writing maybe he's at the age of 70 plus. I don't know if he still can sing the If You Away exactly the same when he was young. There only two songs I hear, Yesterday When I Was Young and I If You Go Away. Aside from these songs, where are the others he sang during.his younger years? In the 2nd song. He seemed to be softly crying in the last part of it. Novo's voice and style of singing is so smooth caressing one's heart to comfort. He surpasses the foreign singers who also sang the songs. Ms Justine Singh, Novo Bono we n the championship in the Philippines' Tawag Ng Tanghalan in the middle of 60s. He was very young then at the age of 23 something if I'm right. At this time of writing maybe he's at the age of 70 plus. I don't know if he still can sing the If You Away exactly the same when he was young. I thank you that you too.like his style of singing. 💕🌷💥🌺🌟🌸.

I like to express my tremendous and profound thanks for having this opportunity thru your channel to hear again my visayan idol balladeer and actor, NOVO BONO, JR. singing after a quite no. of years. There only two songs I hear, Yesterday When I Was Young and I If You Go Away. Aside from these songs, where are the others he sang during.his younger years? In the 2nd song. He seemed to be softly crying in the last part of it. Novo's voice and style of singing is so smooth caressing one's heart to comfort. He surpasses the foreign singers who also sang the songs. salamat for posting kabayan. nagsama kami ni Novo nung isang gabi sa taping ng isang TV show here in Cebu. ang tindi pa rin ng boses kahit medyo nagka edad na. Novo (aka Jun) is in his early 60's now. I'll post one or two of his recent videos in the near future.
