They absolutely smashed the design of the castle and the grounds, graphically and all the magical effects and beasts are perfect. Where it gets let down is the main story line and the people, no one talks like the main character talks in real life, no emotion to their words and the NPCs around you arent at all intractable. No one bats an eye when I Avada Kedavra an enemy and it breaks the immersion. Also using dark spells should give some more dark wizard dialogue options or an evil ending where you seize power for yourself. Overall I would love a sequel where they bring in a studio adept at creating people and stories. The main one got out of hand too quickly IMO like not everything has to be the end of the worlld and ancient magic it could have just been a decent mystery inside hogwarts and that would have been enough.

I love the games world but I was more invested with the side quests than the main story. I miss that you don’t have many classes in the game and that you don’t develop deeper relationships with the characters

I actually liked Sebastian story better than the main story .

After a while I just played it because of sebastians Storyline. It was so good. I think the reason why the sidestorylines with Natty, Poppy and Sebastian are more interesting is because they are more emotional. You really get to know these characters and their motives and that's more interesting than just solving riddles for a bunch of dead wizards. For me at least

for me the biggest problem to the game is their is no consequence to your actions. there is no reward for being good and no negative effect for being “bad” your main story stays on a very linear path without much variation which for me made it a little repetitive. (i’ve played through it 5 times so that also must be taken into account.)

Very well done video. As for myself, Hogwarts Legacy wasn't just my most anticipated game of the year 2023. It was my most anticipated game ever, because I'm a HUUUUUGE PotterHead and I've wanted a game like this since the beginning.
Sadly, due to my garbage laptop, I've played the game only once and 100% it. It was a miracle by itself that this game runned on my (then) 8 year old laptop (GTX 960M 4GB, i7-6700HQ, 16GB DDR4 2133MHz). I played on low-medium settings so the game didn't look as bad, in 24fps... Don't ask me how I did it, after many hours you get used to it. I plan on getting a new PC next year and I'm excited to replay Hogwarts Legacy in its full detail on ultra settings.
In the vast majority of time playing this game was very enjoyable and fun. Hogwarts was indeed done very good, with love and passion and the entirety of castle just binded together perfectly. The same goes for Hogsmeade, Forbidden Forest and the most of northern side of the map. I can say that the normal part of the map (the one that Hogwarts was situated in, not the part you discovered through the "coastal cavern" part was really great and the south of Hogwarts didn't feel like the most southern part of the map, it was actually done interesting for me. The fact that you could just see Hogwarts in the distance was very cool.
To sum it all up, without going on forever about how fun the whole game felt for a Harry Potter fan, this game surely does have some repetitivity but it didn't impact me that much, because I was playing the game of my dreams. I still come back to Hogwarts Legacy to this day, just to walk around Hogwarts and the surrouding areas and to feel like home. Avalanche Software definitely delivered with this game and by the success of Hogwarts Legacy I can't wait what they'll do in the sequel. I'm also excited for the summer update that they've announced and for Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions :D

Great video, I agree with alot of what you‘re saying. It would be sou much better if the game had consequences regarding the unforgivable curses but also for the answers you choose.
Something like in the Star Wars Old republic game, there was a bar indicating on which side of the force you were (light or dark) and the characters would react to you according to where the bar was pointing at.
Isadora, Sebastien and Ranrok should have had more story, more options and more development.
I still love Hogwarts Legacy and recently started playing again.
I hope that the developers will at more mechanics and add dlcs over time.

What made me fall in love with harry potter was the world builing and the lore. I would love to live in that world and I hoped the game would let me be a part of it. The main storyline was decent but I did not actually care. The only thing I cared about in terms of plot was the Sebastian storyline. Hogwarts althoygh beautiful was just there after a point on the game and Hogsmead was more usefull that the Castle.
Since I did not care about the combat I played the game on easy mode to get through with it and not get stuck in something I dont enjoy. The rpg aspect (collecting and choosing the right clothes) of the game was useless since and not fun at all, but maybe it played a role if you played in max difficulty and characters stats matter but I dont not try it out to have an opinion.
I just wanted to be a student. Learn things, take exams and attend classes but also have a storyline in the backround but only progress through the school life. I dont know how that would be possible im not a game designer but its what i hoped for.
I think we all want a harry potter game like GTA RP when we choose what we want to do and roleplay and I ultiplayer mode would offer just that maybe.
One last thing is that I hate the word Revelio at this point. Have a setting to mute spells. You cast revelio so much it gets so annoying to hear it again and again.

The game is a good foundation. But some of the common issues people had were:
Repetitive Enemies: The dark witches and wizards in particular all used the same 2-3 spells and none used basic cast. In some cases, the students you fight in crosswands was more challenging just because they utilized more spells, counters, and basic cast attacks. There are several mods you can download in PC which gives enemies more spells including unforgivables and it makes the game so much betted, it should honestly be in the base game.
Lack of Immersion: This has more to do with the actual school theme. Besides going to the classes once, you don’t really interact with the teachers or the lessons at all after the first missions. Which is a real shame. I want to feel like I’m supposed to go to school. But I honestly felt more like a teachers assistant rather than an actual student. You also can’t really sit or lay down, which isn’t really a big deal, but with a castle as large as Hogwarts, those small details really help.
Co-Op: While not everyone agrees on this next part, the lack of multiplayer can make exploring the world feel lonely. We want to cast spells and journey the Wizarding world with friends. We don’t want live service, just a simple co-op

Sebastian is the best by far. I found poppy's quest really weird, they were going after the poachers for hunting the magical creatures, but you yourself is not much different I mean you still use their skin and their fur. But you magically get their skin by petting them?? It's just too far fetched, they want to say using animals is bad but it's okay if we do it.

    @FluffyJackie Před 2 měsíci

When the game was announced, I was extremely excited.
Harry Potter was a titanic part of my childhood and identity growing up, so when it was released I played it in every free minute I had.
With Hogwarts Legacy I planned to end this chapter of my life as long as Rowling was involved in it, because her, sadly turning completely bonkers (or showing her true colours), gave one of the few and biggest good parts of my childhood an extremely sour aftertaste.
    Back on Topic:
Despite being extremely excited, I still tried to keep my hype in check.
But I seemed to still have too high of expectations.
    First the good stuff:
Visually the game was stunning and created intricately and with passion and love for the franchise (at least like you said Hogwarts was, as well as Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest), the story was quite interesting and while may not executed in the best way it expanded the lore quite a bit.
The Friendship-Questlines were nice and I think that this Design of Hogwarts is the best we have seen yet. As mentioned, it's full of intricate detail and really manages to convey the feeling of a big fancy school,- something even the movies didn't manage as much. (There it often felt like a cold castle, where someone randomly decided to use it as a school and not a building specifically build to be a school).
Now to the parts that made me think that that I might've had to great of expectations:
As beautifully and intricately Hogwarts and the Highlands were designed, they're sadly "just" that.- You can hardly interact with it's residents or other students.
There is the one or another one time mini mission with a few characters but there's nothing more than that.
It's basically just walk and look.
In parts it's too big for it's own good and, like you said, at some point only copy pasted. It kinda feels unfinished, like they had to release it at some point but didn't have something to fill that part of the map yet and quickly pasted it full of the ever same side content.
Then there's the loot, I think it wasn't the best thing that it's randomly generated at all times. It's okay for the regular copy pasted cave, but it would've been nice if some loot in certain locations and tombs would've been modeled to that place and it's history, just for the immersion and world building - and not the 100th same scarf, hat, eyewear or robe I've found dozen times before.
A few other things would be the Character Creator and customization options.
In itself the character creator is not bad or anything like that but it would've been nice if we had some leeway in terms of face shape, bodytype, height and more options in terms of hairstyles, eyecolours, general facial features and voice.
And while there are voice options, they're all the exact same voice, just in an electronically altered pitch, which is clearly noticable.
Another thing that I personally think would've been nice to have (but is probably asking for a bit much) are personality options.
What I mean, and that's probably just a me thing, is that the main character is kinda too prim. I would've liked to have the option to make them more casual and lax as they would've felt more like an actual person to me, which would've greatly improved the immersion to me.
    Now to the characters customization.
What really bothered me was that, for the female character, there were hardly good looking outfits with trousers, while the male character has plenty of good looking options.
So an option to switch between trousers and skirts versions would've been really cool. (I was hoping Avalanche would that something like that with a patch, but I doubt it by now).
Additionally a lotta outfits and robes were exactly the same, just in a different colour scheme, which is kinda lazy.
Here it again feels like they either were as said lazy or didn't have enough time to properly design enough different outfits. It's also kinda weird that a lot of the outfits for the female character have higher heels.
What I think was really disappointing though, were the classes. They by themselves were interesting and quite fun but too few in nature. At most you had 6 - 7 Classes of which half were only a montage, while for the other half you were forced to complete flow,- and immersion breaking tasks to learn some spells.
So stuff like "Kill 20 Spiders" or "Use the Mandrake against 3 enemies at once".
You then were forced to leave the castle and look for (sometimes specific) enemies, animals, balloons etc and complete these
unrelated (and for a student widely inappropriate) tasks which just screamed artificial playtime extension.
What I think would've been really cool is, if you were given the possibility to learn some stuff independently in the library outside of class or were given chances to learn certain abilities through random encounters or through, through certain circumstances unlocked questlines.
So learning the Patronus or becoming an Animagus (one of the friends, we find out, even is an animagus. I feel like that's a wasted opportunity to include that option).
    And last but not least:
Like you said, despite it being "Our" journey in this *RPG*, descisions, if you can even callthem that, have hardly any impact on the story.
At most there's a little moment that determines how an important side character dies (but their death is not preventable).
Aside from that it were only minor things that bothered me.
For example I would've really appreciated more mini-games as they would have greatly added to the immersion in my opinion, so Gobstones, Wizards Chess, Quidditch, caring for plants and brewing Potions (basically like something the game for Half-Blood Prince did 14 years prior).
Another thing I would've liked were more customization options for the wand.
So more options for cores that go beyond Phoenix Feather, Dragon Heartstring and Unicorn Hair, as well as more options for the wand's appearance and wood types.
Aside from that more good looking options for the wand handle would've been cool, of the over 20 you can find, there are only a few ones that look good.
And while that is a matter of taste, I think it's safe to say that many of the designs were really clunky.
Anyway,- In conclusion I think it's safe to say that the greatest weakness of this game is that it doesn't really feel like your character lives in Hogwarts, but is rather a person that just runs through it (and the highlands) to check off marks on the map.
Funnily enough, the mobile game Hogwarts Mystery does (despite it's many negative traits) a really fine job of conveying exactly that.
So maybe a fusion of both (except the extremely annoying and obnoxious pay elements of the mobile game), as well as a touch of the older games, meaning the Look and Design from Legacy , the feel and options of Mystery and the mini-games and a few of the mechanics of the older games could be the perfect Hogwarts RPG, if given the time needed to develop it.

I loved the game but was so annoyed that I had to go to so many caves and tombs for missions… for the sequel:
    1. I’d love if you can follow up your character, like using the PS or WB account to continue with the MC in the sequel…
    2. More classes and more missions inside school.
    3. I am pretty indifferent to Quidditch and wasn’t a big fan of the flying mechanics but most people want to have it so, why not?
    4. KEEP SEBASTIAN as a main companion! He was my favorite of all companions.
    5. A new mystery (we had the keepers, can we get the founders now?) but a mystery centered in Hogwarts and that gets solved in the school.
    6. Branching narrative - take a page from The Dark Pictures or The Wolf Among Us.
    7. A story where the previous companions (Natsai, Poppy, and Sebastian) are part of the core 4 with MC. Again, just like the books where they all solve the mystery and meet new people.
    8. More missions like The Haunted Shop, or Trial #3 or the Hufflepuff Jackdaw quest.
    9. Start a new storyline that would lead to sequels (think Goblet of Fire setting up the next 3 books)
    10. A series big bad. We need a good villain

I definitely found the message of “Any action you take to help the chronically disabled is dark and evil,” very problematic. It tells us that those in unfortunate circumstances should just accept their lot in life and anyone who is given health and wealth should be able to keep it and not concern themselves with the misfortune of others.

The 2 biggest lackluster aspects for me, obviously the lack of morality and no consequences to our actions, not only for using the curses but in general if you disagree with a character in dialogue options it could have been cool to have disagreements and arguments and characters would get annoyed with you or something. And also the combat gets reptitive, if they had multi combo animations for with the basic attack without using a spell, it's just "jab jab twirl" which gets very repetitive, they should have had many variations where you could dive, roll, flip or some other cool action with basic attacks. Really hoping the sequel dives deep into correcting those things. Also having a Diagon Alley map expansion would be cool too.

The game is grounded in the lore of the HP franchise, when you think about what the spells mean in the universe, how they are percieved by the general wizarding world, our characters in the game are the "good guy" so naturally us using them should be frowned upon. If we could choose to go down the dark wizard route and play as the "bad guys" then there shouldn't be any penalty. I use them a lot in combat but I do feel like there should be some sort of trade for using them, cause the "taboo" feel doesn't exist. They are unforgivable curses for a reason, if our actions *are* forgivable it just takes away the whole identity of the spell aha.

  • @awsome182
    @awsome182 Před 2 měsíci +2

I personally was very disappointed with the game.
    - The world felt not lived in
    - the story had many plot holes (in general the story was extremely weak)
    - the facial animations were absolutely liveless
    - the diversity felt forced and out of place - considering the game is set in 1880s England, it would have been perfectly fine in a game like Cyberpunk 2077
    - the lack of a morality system was problematic, given that you can use unforgivable curses wherever you go
    - the surroundings don't react to you (you walk around the forest, NPCs are walking past you, then spiders attack you and the NPCs keep walking past you as if nothing was going on, that annoyed me to no end)
    - the protagonist was so boring and uninteresting - nothing gets explained, no one asks him why they are starting school in year 5, everyone mentions how weird it is, but no one asks why
    - the fact that you could walk everywhere at any time without restrictions was lore breaking, considering that there were two quests in which you were not allowed to go to certain places during the night, but outside these quests, you can go there without any issues
    - the fights got annoying after a while, so I ended up flying over the map because I wanted to avoid fights
    - etc.

Played this on PS5 till I got bored of it, somewhere around San Bakar trial. Recently picked it up on Steam, about 20 hours in and I'm bored again. This time I've only completed the first trial. It's repetitive in everything you do. I even modded it to have spells earlier, no cooldown, etc, and while it's more fun than vanilla, it's not enough to carry I think.. We'll see. I would like to complete the story and see what happens for myself, but a CZcams video just might have to do it. Their mistake was too big of a map, and chests everywhere. Wands should've been won in duels, all clothing be bought from stores, the moon statues only at Hogwarts, and about a ton other things. The open world formula is overdone now. Ubisoft ruined it and everyone else followed along thinking it was the meta... Still a fun game, but I can't see myself finishing it. I'm too old to chase things on a map...
Edit: With that said. I think I will ignore all chests, and only focus on all quests, ie, the story and the quests that expand it.
2nd edit: The main story should've been Sebastian's questline (the moral of rights and wrongs) and Natsai with poaching and beasts and their freedom. Instead of Ranrok being obsessed with magic, make him obsessed with poaching. The final mission could have you stop Ranrok alongside Natsai, from unleashing a Basilisk into the world. Ranrok's greed for power was to control a Basilisk and take down the wizardkind. Of course you both sort of failed, and this Basilisk can later be seen in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
I singlehandedly created a better story with my imagination. Imagine what I could do as a script writer.

Love how that game ended up being forgotten and was only relevant because of the backlash. lol

    I was into Hogwarts
Legacy when I first bought it and really into how the world looked so beautiful but then played it again and got bored. I think Ubisoft messed up on the rpg of things with a mediocre story I wanted a story where our character goes to Hogwarts with a backstory as to why we got there we make friends enemies learn magic from our teachers we have morality where we can choose to be good 😇 or evil 😈 learn about our friends and go on wizarding adventures with our friends while solving mysteries in and around Hogwarts. But no our character is the perfect can do no wrong Mary sue. The things that I hated in this game when I was playing was that I need morality I need choices and consequences I hated that everyone is so nice to me no one has a single rude thing to say to me which drove me mad I hated that everyone callled me the new 5th yr instead of my name which was extremely annoying like I get it already I started late. I could go on about other reasons why I hate this game but don’t want to make this to long. In all honesty I think I think the devs should have started us out as a first year and then go ⬆️ being a fifth year student does work but the way they executed how our character goes about doing things in and around Hogwarts just baffles me. And just pisses me off so much 😡

The "controversies" werent real. It was all nonsense coming from a weird part of the far left.

If you perform an unforgivable curse, there should be an option to obliviate other student before they run to teachers or authorities to snitch on you.
