- Fall of the Mountain King is a standalone prequel to In the Hall of The Mountain King, set during the catastrophic war that drove the trolls from their mountain kingdom generations ago. Build your ancestry to drive your actions in the caverns, win the loyalty of the clan Champions, and strive to be trolldom's greatest defender against the gnomish onslaught.
The publisher and designer were kind enough to teach me the game on Tabletop Simulator on Monday evening. So here are my honest first impressions of the game based on that play? I'm not here to tell you whether you should back a game on KS or not, I'm here to simply explain what the game is about, what I liked and what concerns if any I have.

Will check this out when it comes available. Thanks for the preview.
Any time!
Great video and I am definitely interested in this one. Especially given how much I enjoyed In the Hall of Mountain King.
Thanks!
I will definitely check this game out after your review. I don't know if I will go for the Kickstarter but I do want to try the original game.
Hope you enjoy it!
Excellent first impression, I think I'll wait for the retail version. I bought the ITHOTMK at a very good price and I think I can get this precuel at similar price
Most likely, the KS is already a pretty dang good value.
Huh, looks and sounds better than I expected from my previous limited look into it. Unfortunately the small group of people I have to play games with find area control to be one of their least favorite mechanisms. Thanks for the informative review!
Sorry to hear that, but thanks for the kind words!
Art on the board kinda reminds me of Cry Havoc. Thanks for the video Luke!
It does - can't unsee it now, however TTS art may differ from finalised art.
@@TheBrokenMeeple Btw, I didn't mean it in a bad way, Cry Havoc's board is fine, and the game itself is quite underrated imho.
Oh i didn't think you meant bad, but I hadn't made the comparison before.
Think of the ancestry as the capabilities your particular clan has built up over the course of ages. Maybe you're better at logistics. Maybe you're better at mobility. Maybe you're better at intelligence. Those take time and connections, and the ancestry cards are your clan working on those specific elements.
I don't know. I really (still) enjoy the simplicity of In The Hall. There seems to be a little too much going on for my taste in this one.
I enjoyed Hall a lot, but I wouldn't call that one simple. . . .
@@TheBrokenMeeple Get a troll or build a tunnel. That's all there is. Basically. Playing well is another story. Lol.
@@mkietzmann That's the thing, yes the actions are simple enough but what you are trying to achieve and managing the resources is no easy feat, you can easily get stuck in a corner.
