    This pedestrian represents road attitudes more generally, here in Vancouver. The drivers are no different, just more deadly--and that includes buses. The mindset is: I need to get to wherever I'm going more than you do, and I'm just going to do whatever the fuck I want to get there. See how she just put her head down at the last minute and appeared to be hoping for the best, just before the bus hit her? She expected it to stop. The same thing happens to me every day with cars making left turns on my corner: the driver and I will make eye contact, and although I have the right of way, it's obvious that they're not going to stop, so obviously I get out of their way. But they'd blame me if they ran me over, just like this idiot is probably blaming the bus driver for hitting her.

      The best thing to do is to call 911. Never touch a person who was hit by a vehicle, NEVER. If their neck is dislocated you can kill them. If she stands up on her own, then again, what can you do?
      Once one person is assisting no more are needed.

    • @gaiachaos2000
      @gaiachaos2000 Před 6 lety +1

      @Frank Doucette: I'm not wrong. The bus driver accelerated too fast and didn't watch for hazards, and the pedestrian clearly didn't look both ways.
      Why ask? You work for that shitty BC Transit company?

    • @Grimey_Fishing
      @Grimey_Fishing Před 6 lety +4

      You are wrong on so many levels. First, it's not BC Transit. Second, I am no longer even a resident of BC. Last, four seconds go by before the bus goes into the intersection - that is not too fast. I also know for a fact that the bus would have been able to reach maybe 15 km/hr in the distance it traveled. Again, not too fast. Buses on the Granville mall do a max of 30 km/hr - a speed they can't attain by the time they reach the opposite crosswalk. Do you know why they do a max of 30 km? Because of pedestrians like the one that ends up getting hit in this video. 30 km/hr is also the max speed a vehicle can travel that allows a good chance of survival when there's pedestrian-vehicle collisions. It's never any driver's fault when someone runs/rides/drives in front of the vehicle they're in when the driver has the right of way and they are not given any time to make a stop. You can check off all those boxes for this collision. I guarantee you that incident was deemed non-preventable by the adjudicator at CMBC. The company holds drivers to a higher standard than even the Highway Traffic Act does. Clearly, you know naught of which you speak.
      An additional comment... if the driver wasn't looking for hazards, then explain how the brakes on the coach were applied *before* contact occurs.

    • @gaiachaos2000
      @gaiachaos2000 Před 6 lety

      All the driver has to do is honk the horn ahead of time and accelerate even more slowly if conditions are not ideal. There are a crapload of pedestrians in downtown and the chances of hitting one is much higher there than at an open wide road. And buses are much more massive than conventional cars.
      You fail at common sense I see.
      And I had a chuckle at your hyperbole. Won't bother explaining why and it must suck for your friends to take terrible advice from you.

    • @Grimey_Fishing
      @Grimey_Fishing Před 6 lety +4

      gaiachaos2000 You're funny. There are no ideal conditions on the road - only as good as it gets or not as good as it gets. It isn't common sense for drivers to travel down the road honking the horn constantly; that's the only thing that could be done if anyone were to take your lousy suggestion to heart. Nor is it common sense to go even more slowly than slow in the event that a pedestrian runs across a street that is only open to commercial vehicles, against a red light, in front of a vehicle, and at the last second. The only safe speed if you are assuming everyone is going to break the law and put themselves in harm's way would be 0 km/hour. That must be some uncommon sense to which only you subscribe. The driver did everything reasonable in that incident. They proceeded on the green light (after a pause), and accelerated at a reasonable rate. How fast, exactly, do you think a sixty foot bus accelerates anyway?
      And, once again, you're getting things wrong. I made no exaggerated claims and everything I said was to be taken literally. I guess you fail at common sense, or at least common knowledge, because exaggerated claims not meant literally are what hyperbole is. Save your pity for yourself. Keep chuckling, though. I'd hate for you to be wrong and morose.
