Lorus Lumibrite Field: Best Full Lume Field Watch under $100?

  • The Lorus Lumibrite (RXF41AX7, European model) is a full lume dial, field watch recommendation I received from a subscriber a couple months. After a month's long search, I found one. After having handled and worn one for while, I am impressed. Full lume dials always get my attention however, add the accuracy and reliability of a quartz movement, blacked-out handset, and excellent case diameter/height proportions and all this for about $80 and it's a great field watch option. It's more likely you'll find the titanium version. Check out Dave at Just the Watch's review of the Alba version of this watch (AQPJ403 Full Lume Dial Titanium, available in Asia).
    This watch is FOR SALE at my online store. Check out my online store of other watches/gear for sale showcased in prior reviews.

    In Britain the Lorus is available in a store called Argos for £25 AND it has a screw down case back with the Seiko wave engraved on it. Mine is on a leather strap which completely changes the look and makes it feel much more premium! The only negatives for me are that at night there's not enough differentiation between the minute and hour hands and the day date window can be confused with the hour hand. Great video by the way! 😊

      After the publishing of the video I did put a leather strap on it. As you’ve pointed out, it’s a game changer. Have a great weekend and thank you for watching.

    I absolutely love these! There various versions of these. Some are in steel and others in titanium. Some like this one is fully lumed and others are have only the indices and hands lumed. This is on the edge of what I would wear with my 8"0 wrist. I agree with you on the crown. It really is hard to grip. Not perfect but a great watch. Have a great day Tim!

      @@Realidealgear Update - arrived today. No drilled lugs, snapback case, which I assumed. Needs a NATO strap.

  • @matrixegg
    @matrixegg Před 8 měsíci +3

    Good comparison! For the strap swappers it may be interesting to mention that the springbars in the MDC are fixed, so only nato straps can be used, whereas the Lorus has drilled lugholes and normal removable springbars, so all kinds of straps/bracelets can be attached.

    • @Realidealgear
      @Realidealgear  Před 8 měsíci

      I saw they had spring bars but didn't realize they were not the easily removed spring bars. However, as you mentioned, they're not normal so when you remove them, you have to replace with traditional spring bars. Since you mentioned it, I've replace the spring bars on the MDC with normal ones. Thanks for the info.

      @@Realidealgear You‘re welcome! Did you get them out easily? I wasn‘t able to get them out without using a lot of force and was afraid of damaging the watch.

    • @Realidealgear
      @Realidealgear  Před 8 měsíci +3

      I did. I used a dedicated wire cutter so I could get up-close to the bars. I did a video of this (posted within the month) and specifically mentioned your comment as the occasion for making the change. Thank you!

    In Asia, we can buy these identical watches under the brand, Alba. It’s the sister company to Seiko cater for Asia market.
    There are different versions of these small size field watches - fully lumed dial, normally lumed hands and indexes; solar powered or normal battery; 50m or 100m water resistance; stainless steel or titanium.
    I was lucky to bought 2 discontinued, probably JDM version of used Alba field watches.
    One is about 36mm, indexes and hands are lume that can last as long as my Seiko diver despite the small lumed are, kanji/English date wheel in titanium with 200m water resistance. Still trying to find the other version which is same size and layout, titanium 200m WR but full lumed dial.
    Another that I have in same size is white (not lumed) dial, titanium body with 100m WR.
    These are comfortable, slim, lightweight and accurate field watches.
    Wear them in good health.
    Looking forward to more watch reviews!

      I've been on the Infantry website and no information is available for the MDC Infantry Field. Funny you asked because I emailed the owner, Jason, yesterday about getting more info regarding the MDC Field. Haven't heard back. You're not alone in wanting more info about the watch. I just picked up another Infantry field watch and I'm finishing up a comparison video of the two Infantry field watches.

    • @Realidealgear
      @Realidealgear  Před 7 měsíci

      Alba and Lorus are sister brands. They are essentially the same case. I agree with you on lume on hands on a full lume dial is less effective. I prefer blackout handset for lumed dials. I'm having a hard time finding an Alba. My understanding is that they are sourced to Asian market. Have a great weekend!

      @@RealidealgearNot necessarily. The Ti version is indeed screw-down but the screw-down caseback was also used on your (and my) steel version until recently. It now has the snap caseback. I was lucky enough to get the screw caseback before they sold out. The shop in the UK where I bought mine had the snap-on caseback version in their catalog but when I inspected mine I saw it was the screw down version. This was about a year ago.
