we have been in Sri Lanka in 2014! It's a magical country! Watch the video on our channel if you want! :D
This is a beautiful video. I will be going to Sri Lanka myself very soon. There were a lot of amazing things to see in your video, HOWEVER you were riding elephants and touching them and I instantly lost all respect. These poor animals are put through torture from the time they are calves, just for our entertainment. PLEASE do not ride elephants, or touch wild animals of any kind, anywhere.
That's Pinnawala, an elephant orphanage where actually the opposite of what you said happens. They are domesticated elephants and are completely fine with human presence.
Elephants shouldn't be ridden. Anatomically it's bad for them, not to mention the other ethical issues with it. eclectictrekker.com/more-reasons-why-you-should-never-ever-ride-an-elephant/
"Unlike the human spinal cord, an elephant’s spinal cord has a large ridge of bones that stick up at least 6 inches above it, and they are very fragile. Imagine if humans had this same ridge and what it would feel like to endure excessive weight on it day in and day out. Doesn’t sound too pleasant does it?" "An elephant’s bone structure in their feet is also very sensitive. Their bones angle up, and their heels don’t touch the ground, so they are basically walking on their toes at all times."
If the elephants are completely fine with human presence they wouldn't need chains or bullhooks on poles to keep them doing what human handlers want them to.
If you want to interact with happy and healthy elephants and that are cared for well look up Lek and the Elephant Nature Park. Elephants are free to interact with people as they wish and free to walk away as they wish.
