I think Johnston taking Makars lunch money had a huge effect on Colorados psyche.
The team hasn’t been the same without Landeskog on the bench/ice. Flat out.
Tragedy the dynasty was destroyed when we lost Landy then Kadri, Burakovsky, Compher, Newhook, etc...now we lost Francouz, LOC, and Val. Decimated team. Should have won a few more cups.

Have you guys looked at the salary cap when you say the Avs won't get rid of Mikko? That dude is gonna want at least 12M on that next deal. You know what happens to any chance at any sort of depth on the team then? And who cares if he has 100 points in the regular season if this is the kind of playoffs you get from him? Man, rough day for the Avs on and off ice… sad. Disappointing… for this to be the way Val goes out… after the inspiring career be built in Colorado. God he was fun to see get good and then great. This hurts. And instead of trading mikko for a top goalie and using the remaining on a Drouin contract we hopefully can sign Drouin now. He’s the guy to step into Val’s role. God, what a team with them both tho… what a bummer he’s out. Hope he gets well and finds a way to keep focused and can be there for those who depend on him. Put in the work! Time flies!
Trade Raantanen? Oh boy. He's had a bad playoff this year, for sure, but I don't know why you trade a 100+ point 30-40+ goal guy who is usually great in the playoffs for a goalie of all positions. I guess people are just upgrading their "trade Girard" refrain to "trade Raantanen" this year.
@@maxv658 na, it was initially for a better goalie and to keep Drouin. But Georgie is playing just fine now, we’ll see how next season goes. I like mikko. But for 11-12m a year I’d like him to be a much better two way player. I think Val or Drouin could step into his place. Sure, they’re both not quite as polished but Val was just getting to his insane game here in the playoffs and Drouin still has room to grow. Look at Val 4-5 years ago.. Drouin is same age tho so not that much time to get to peak. I’m sure management has thought it though. When you’re setting come back win records it’s a very bad sign.. I’m not the coach etc so it doesn’t matter haha. But yeah, I could see Drouin signing for 5/6m a year now. So a longer term 5/6 year deal would be insane value if he plays well. But with geo playing well no need. With Val out we could maybe sign Drouin anyway. So ya, probably keep mikko haha.
3 series against 3 different Deboer teams. All losses. At what point is this not a coaching/systems issue? The players are frustrated becauee they aren't even being given a chance to succeed.
The fact that this Avs team is playing like this with the altitude advantage at any given game they play is monumentally embarrassing

I do put a lot of blame on Bednar for this performance. His even keel personality is great most of the time, but he needed to flip a table in the locker room in the 1st intermission and put Mikko on the 4th line to send a message.
Reality is Avs should have been swept. Got lucky game 1.
And got unlucky in game 3.
I don't think so. The Avs were the better team in Game 1 and in game 3 for the most part. Whether it's game 1 or 3 they lose, the series is still 3-1, which I think is exactly how it should be no matter how you slice it.

The avalanche play like that all year long to get really hot and then they play really crappy and then they get hot and then they play crappy. That's what I noticed.
The highlight of the game was watching Duchene stick go flying.
Why did the Avs play better against the Jets but can't find the net in this series. I was at the game, and fans around me showed no compassion for Nichushkin in conversations. I will keep him in my prayers. Thank you, AJ, for your comment it was on point.

Objectively the way Aves played and Stars played they’re lucky to not have been swept. They’re fortunate to still have a chance.

If you start first 4 games of a series like that you’re gonna get swept or down 3-1 period. I actually think they’ll play well game 5 bc they’re due, but Dallas deserves to win this series at this point clearly.

Eric I wondered the same... maybe multiple players aren't well. Cale did not look himself! I know they'd play through most sicknesses but perhaps something nasty is going through the team?! No ones going to use it as an excuse or let the media know.
The trial for the canada junior team is ramping up. Makar was in no way personally involved, but I wonder if he's been called to testify against his former teammates. If so, I imagine that could be weighing heavy on him.

There has been a huge hole in this team for 2 years now. The Captain has been gone and its a Captain who leads by example. For anyone who has played sports, you know not having your leader playing in the game hurts and for some players its what they need, if the majority of players just needed a pep talk a coach you wouldnt need a player leader (Captain). But when you play a game that has that you start to need that to be motivated and inspired. Half of the BS that has gone on since winning the Cup is because the Captain is not on the ice. If Gabe cant come back its time to get a C in the locker room. It does not look like there is one right now so you might have to go looking for one. Also, they should have gotten Val off the team last summer after that crap that is so secret we still do not know what is going on. Its a Pro sports team, him leaving in the PLAYOFFS should have been publicly addressed. Again without a C on the team, it kills us.
Its time to retool, Nichushkin cant handle success, Gabe isn't coming back, and our goaltending is abysmal.

@@cruz92895have you ever looked at the Stars players stats? They have 2 guys who scored 30 goals this season and they have EIGHT guys with over 20 goals. They have 4 scoring lines if you haven't noticed. And their kids (Johnston/Stankoven) are pretty good. Then their defensemen are no slouch. Tanev, Heiskenen and Harley are #1 defensemen on other teams,plus Sutter and Lindell. Oh and then there's Oettinger who's an all star goalie....but yeah,your 3 guys are better than all of that I mentioned above...."the Stars aren't good" my azz

Man, this series really brought the dregs of society out in full force. Such a shame.
Watching this game I said in the second period that the Avs looked like they just didn't care, but I changed my mind. The Avs looked like a team that was distracted. Bednar said it himself, it's not an excuse to lose and that's true and I am certainly not saying it's OK, but it's understandable. I find it hard to believe they lose in 5, but it wouldn't surprise me given the deep hole they are in. Series isn't over of course, but boy, really steep hill to climb.
Really hope Nichuskin gets the help he needs and is able to lead a better life with or without hockey. Hockey doesn't matter at this point honestly.
EDIT: Also, all these Stars fans talk a lot of shit for cheering for a team that has won one Stanley Cup in the franchise's history 25 years ago.
They have to quit wasting Makar and Mackinnons primes on shithead players that only show up half the time (Nichushkin, Georgiev)

As a Stars fan i have to say that the rain Da6 let Nichuskin go was maybe cuz if this. Ever since he was a rookie here he was constantly in the sports report that he was out for spent reasons everytime. But come on Av's fans ya still have a great team! I've been a fan since 96 and was happy when they won the cup. This recent cup was awesome also so I still believe in the Av's as having a good season next yr. But as for this yr I need my Stars too close them out. I have a hard time when millionaires go into rehab because all that money and resources they have is a TON more than ppl out in the streets that have drug problems. Js. Anyway, good luck Av's.
Anyone that is addicted or is close to an addict knows that he needs to lose his team . The addict needs loss to recover . The other players deserve to compete in the cup they’ve dreamed about since age 5 without dealing with the horror and trauma of addiction. Once is hopeful but twice in a row is hopeless , it really is. It can’t go on any longer. He needs to do the right thing if he wants to recover , it’s life and death situation for him and he really needs to resign for himself , for the team, and for the franchise and fans. You don’t keep hoping with an addict this bad, you need to remove him from the situation - it is not working . For his health, you have to end this situation now .

Avs once again didn't show up, but tonight at least they have an excuse. Fans are being abhorrent with Val, do fucking better, be fucking better. Play off hockey is one of the only things keeping me alive this year, I don't want the Avs out in round 2, but wishing harm on Val for being an addict, ISN'T ok. EVER.

The management needs to look in the mirror. They run this team with so much secrecy. Val SCREWED them last year, and yet they circled the wagon and were quiet about what happened in Seattle. Maybe there needs to be honesty and clarity.
