- NPCs Fight Each Other Using Active Ragdoll Physics
This is a Simulation created in Overgrowth with Euphoria Physics to give the Ragdoll Physics effects. There is one AI (jeff) that needs to fight the group of red NPCs. It's NPC Wars, and it's like a fight between AI and NPCs. It's also similar to Manta's Warbox simulations, except the AI and NPCs fight with their fists in Overgrowth with Euphoria Physics. - Hry

What program do you use to create such battles?
Jeff's main weakness is is intelligence. How are you gonna run up on a dude with explosives attached to you? Why are you using a bow so close to the enemy?

yeah he's completely negating the advantage and the whole point of a bow and arrows. AKA you can hit the enemy from far away while they can't reach you

It's a pretty underrated strategy to catch them off guard then attack them with ur fist which can lead to a combo start

I loved Jeff's character arc so much. Probably the best example of character development I've seen. He started as the cowardly guy who barely wanted to fight to this absolute combat god who tanked explosions without a tinge of fear. Jeff was by-far my favorite character and I would love to see more of him.
I never appreciated how well thought out and how good the combat system is in overgrowth...

@@Bunta1987qwerty I would want to code him to have a distance preference that way he tries to move back slowly while firing as they get closer and also so hes able to shoot them from close still I'm not a coder but I know that has to be possible if not a little difficult
Essentially he'd prefer to be a certain distance from his enemy but if he's forced to be closer or can't/shouldn't be any farther he can still shoot instead of locking up and trying to get to the usable distance for his bow

Angular would mean strafe motion instead of moving away.

distanceDelta could be defined by

distanceDelta = (distance1 - distance0) / x_milliseconds.
This assumes several things; you have a distance class or function already in place, which does the math to measure distance from player to enemy; walk is maybe a class you've defined, and direction is a method you've defined, while normal and angular are values you defined as perhaps functions (these could be global functions so they can apply to various points of relativity, or local so they're defined by enemy distance). Additionally, the loops could all fall under a single tree, or as nested loops, or even independent.
I've left this mostly free of syntax, as every language would require it to be different, and you could certainly write it branchless. This is unoptimized and just written on the fly (tons of people can write it much better), but I hope it helps you get a general understanding of how it might be programmed.
I keep laughing at the way Jeff runs up to the enemy with the explosive bow, shooting point blank range, getting lauched, and doing it again.

whoever made this AI system is a genius. i'm fascinated by the intriguing system and how the npcs interact with each other as well as the dynamic movement options and the behavior of the AI picking up scavenged weapons after the blue figure is killed off.
“Whoever made this AI system is genius”…. Meanwhile blue AI is running to get as close as possible to the enemies (with its “RANGED” weapon), causing it to be unusable or discarded against/by said enemies. Alternatively blue AI gets 1-2 explosive arrow shots off, but not before immediately running to the enemies, thus taking away all advantages blue AI had with it’s explosive ranged weapon. Now not only is blue AI in striking distance of enemies, but it also puts its self (blue AI) in the blast radius of its own explosive arrows when attacking.
Your end result will either be, blue AI murder-suicides it’s self and an enemy, but “Loses” because all of the enemies we’re not close enough to the explosion to die. Or blue AI gets a lucky murder-suicide, where all of the enemies are in close enough range of your explosive arrow shot that will inevitably kill you but gets all of them for a “Tie”.

It's always fun to see so much as Overgrowth's engine. Still, I guess NPC battles in general are fun to watch.
I like how in the 2nd battle 0:08, Jeff spammed leg kick because it works but the opponent read him like a book and beath his ass, these AI's have brains.

Some stuff that might greatly add reality into this, maybe you could consider:
1. Limited stamina and stamina regeneration per time. Used in running, strikes, rolling and parrying;
2. The use of armor reducing stamina regeneration per time;
3. Opponents noticing when the target is showing their back against them;
4. Using long ranged weapons from away lol;
5. Reduced stats like agility, strength and parry skills when at low health;
6. Everyone knowing their optimal attack distance upon everyone's combat skill level allowing that more or less;
7. Stunning effects upon getting a decent hit (important!);
8. Weapons specific effects, like bows piercing armour, knives being able to strike faster, weapon mechanics like inertia affecting damage and attack speed;
9. The ability of physical balance being affected by atributes or general combat level
10. Specific weapon expertise;
11. Irregular terrains;
12. Anger and fear affecting attributes like increassing strength and burning stamina and strategy, being developed by opponents number and by getting hit (also resisted by combat level or intelligence/knowledge stats);
13. Sun effects upon direction faced temporarely reducing combat level

Would it be possible to have Jeff learn while fighting, so he progressively gets better at fighting on his own, no weapons or anything
All he’s doing is recording a game called overgrowth with different skins on and a few weapon mods, he isn’t doing anything therefore can’t improve the ai by himself because all he’s doing is recording npcs from the game with a few mods, he didn’t make them himself so can’t improve them

Not sure why he runs at the enemy when he has a bow, or why he throws his 2nd dagger immediately and leaves it for someone to pick up and use against him
the bow is a mod and isn't actually ingame so it's kinda buggy

the ai can only do so much since there aren’t unlimited options like in a real fight, but u can see he learns to run away and counter attack
