what made RE1's zombies so scary is the animalistic and suffering they sound like thats the last human emotion they really have other than agression and the need to feed. RE made something great but they don't stay cannon to it, their zombies i believe are technically still alive - in the first game they die of blood loss after so many shots - importantly it didn't stay canon but early phases of the virus caused agression, intellegence loss and hunger- when residence near the outskirts were being attacked they were most likely semi-human for well over 20 years i've wanted to see the madness that happened at the mansion
@@Brocosin I know, and I hate them xD also those annoying voice mods (Rebecca, Chris etc) I'm pretty sure you could burn the ISO and play it like that on a modded PS2 as well lol
I could say the same, but I didn't like the fact that they respawned forever. I was fairly young and stupid when I first played outbreak and I couldn't figure out what to do and the 4-5 zombies respawning every 2 minutes just made things worse
@@alecduquette7500 Not all of them respawn, and it's not really a big deal on lower difficulties anyway I had plenty of fun killing zombies on easy with that handgun and (I think) 45 extra rounds you get in the beginning on file 2 lol
@@unsavourylittlerunt there was a limit to their spawns? Like I said I was maybe around 12 when I played it first and I would get to the upstairs break room with the extra booze but couldn't fully figure out the way to the roof. And roughly every 4-5 minutes I'd get hit by a group of about 3 zoms that I'd kill and the exact same models would appear again in the next attack
@@alecduquette7500 I said not all of them respawn, not that there's a limit Certain zombies (and enemies overall) respawn and others don't, and it's not random (scripted instead)
I agree, the new groans sound too much like the Walking Dead zombies which never sounded good in the first place. I think the eerie moan, along with the shambling walk and the grotesque appearance (missing lips, missing limps and rotting flesh) is what makes zombies from Resident Evil the scariest of them all. Hopefully, not all the zombies sound like the one in this clip did of the remake.
@@Zerohopexe Not only that but in RE2 some zombies looked like injured humans, its like since it was the start of the outbreak the zombies haven't rotten much to the point they're skin becomes white, they even still have pupils.
Tbh, when I play the original RE I still get startled from time to time. Also the graphics make it more creepy. But when playing the RE2 remake I never felt that feeling, I think its that sometimes hordes of them are in a room and it takes away the creep factor. I'm more scared if you see a single zombie on the ground in a room and when you come back later he's alive.
RE2 classic was a great game in many ways, but I feel an unmentioned and unappreciated highlight are the zombie designs. The appearance of humanistic zombies are uncanny. Their skin is still human skin colour instead of grey, and they are wearing uniforms/police hats ect. It makes them seem less traditional monster-like and more tragically and terrifyingly akin to actual people. It feels like "oh god, an hour or two ago this was a living person!" The way they sound when they utter low moan made me wonder if they had a sense of contained old self; like a tortured soul trapped in an undead nightmare that begs to be ended by a bullet. I used to wonder if when people died and reanimated, they had enough sense of self to know what they are doing and powerless to watch themselves eat other people. That was before I really knew anything about zombie lore. I also am off-put by the slight side stumbling or kind of dead-leg hop they do in RE2. Again, the jerky movement kinda moves into uncanny creepiness territory. It's just really unsettling. When the zombies move in the first game and some others, arm stretched out, and walk in a kinda auto homing fashion it seems more robotic and bland. I guess zombies in theory should be more robotic and inhuman, but I don't necessarily think that zombified corpses are quite as scary as the human-like zombie. When I played the game years ago, part of the fear factor was that. But when I played the other games, even the first one, I just think "oh, another corpse zombie." There's nothing creepy about them. Scary, yes. Creepy, no.
In my opinion the zombie in resident evil 1 and remastered were more scary than resident evil 2 remake. The slow sound zombie it still creepy compare to remake zombis that screaming, its literally generic like zombie call of duty
