    That's the most work I've ever seen put into a drum-room. I'm a little surprised you didn't make that a bit bigger, given the amount of energy you put into it. I had no idea that the semi-heavy machinery you used existed! This is absolutely beautiful. Now, please come to FL and build min....lol. This is beautiful. I'm envious.

      Thanks so much... much appreciated. I would think twice before I did another one but it was well worth it. I use it every night and it has brought my playing on so much.

      @@brianlyons4234 I’m getting ready to build something similar, but with the laws in the states, building a small unit like this in my backyard, would be a huge hassle. So, I’m just going to build a small room in my garage, where there’s already power run, and I’ve got a mini-split I just installed for AC (in Florida the heat/humidity is brutal). So, I’m looking for inspiration now, and this was fantastic. I appreciate you sharing this. And, yes….it’s amazing what a soundproof, personal practice space does for one’s playing…👍

    I constructed my drumbooth in my basement and it took me two years because I was working. And now I'm retired since last Christmas enjoying my dreambooth until a week ago I got divorced going to live in a rented appartment. Bottom line let's enjoy life as much as we can because we never know our destiny.

    This is incredible! Great Job! I also would like to build a drum studio in the garden. Do you have problems in the winter with snow? Would you be willing to sell me your plans?

    Great build! Tip for the network - add a WiFi antenna to that Ethernet cable. Have a look at the Unifi 6 Lite or similar. No more faffing with cables when you get your laptop in there 👍🏼

    Great job that! I play drums and have for a while... I'd love a soundproof booth, in a flat though!?
    My brother is a builder and reckons it's achievable by using a raised platform as base with both the bottom and top of the platform being lined with a rubber membrane.
    He's said he's done this in flat's on upper floors and the results are pretty good.
    Again great job that with no more lugging your drums around to rehearsal rooms for a few hours practice every day or night now! Hahahaha great stuff! 👍

      Thanks! The only problem with going down is the possibility of flooding. If I did another one and I had the room I would double breeze block it. Its not much more expense and effort but the result would be be massive. Saying that... if it was down to money, I would put any spare cash into the doors because they make or break the project.

  • @austinbridge

    Great build. The outside is stunning. Definitely would've gone with recessed lighting in such a small space!
    Curious, why do you have the drum kit oriented so that you have to move the floor tom to get in and out? Can you set it up so that your back faces the door and you wouldn't have to move anything at all?

    • @brianlyons4234
      @brianlyons4234  Před rokem

      Hi!
      Yes I thought about recessed lights but I wanted to keep any holes in the ceiling to a minimum so less sound escaped. So all I have in the ceiling is an electrical wire which feeds the light ( approx 10mm) and that is sealed with acoustic sealant. I wasn't that bothered about the room looking pretty, I was more concerned about getting the right results.
      Thanks Brian

      If I had the drums by the door, the big silver door handle would be in my back ( the handle has to be big to open the door). Also the drums are pointing away from the houses so the sound direction does not go towards the houses.

    Great job. Very interesting and satisfying to watch.
    A few comments here about the size. Can you please let us know what the external and internal dimensions are?
    Thank you

    • @brianlyons4234
      @brianlyons4234  Před měsícem +1

      The external is 2.60m long by 2.21m wide and the internal is 1.88m long by 1.52m wide. Yeah a lot has been said about the size but it was only ever meant to be a drum pod. it is too easy to get carried away making a studio bigger but it is surprising how much more work, and extra cost, just an additional metre can make. If you are planning a project, just build what you will use and need. I don't thing I would have finished the drum room if it had been much bigger.

    yes lad you put a ton of effort into this well fkn done. was gonna say I’m doing a smaller version of this & am currently putting up the first layer of plasterboard. quick question how did you do the carpet? did you tuck it beneath the plasterboard over the edge of the underlay? Just thinking what to do as i shouldn’t have it touching

    • @brianlyons4234
      @brianlyons4234  Před měsícem

      The hardboard floor, underneath is not touching the walls but the tiles are fitted up to the wall. I can't imagine carpet will transfer any sound.

    You can easily open that lock with a flat head screwdriver.

  • @uncleted3961
    @uncleted3961 Před rokem +2

    Great job but why did you go to so much trouble and build it so small? You can barely stand up in there. Even 12 inches in all dimensions would have made such a difference.

    • @brianlyons4234
      @brianlyons4234  Před rokem

      I had to keep the height down because of planning restrictions. The actual drum room was kept to a small size because my garden is small and I didn't want it to totally take over.
      The up side was, with it been so small , I could afford all the best materials .
      If I would of had more room I would probably have gone bigger but with hindsight I think the job would have been much harder and the cost a lot more. When I started the project I costed it at about 3k but at finish it had cost 7k. It was just meant to be pod so there waa no need for standing...I only walk in and walk out, the rest of the time I am sat down. Cheers Brian

      @@brianlyons4234 I think we have different definitions of soundproof. For example, if you go to a professional studio in LA, you cannot hear a thing in the control room behind the glass. In Japan, they are creating completely soundproof rooms in apartments where you could have a wild party with a karaoke machine at high volume yet others in the same apartment wouldn't hear a thing.
