This is like the most indepth explanation on how to dimple a barrel. You Fisher Priced it, lol. I love the smoth jazz & the intro.
Very helpful, great job. Thanks.
That was very detailed and clear. The only reason someone wouldn't be able to follow those directions is that they are scared. I will definitely refer to it when I do a custom build!
Thank you! I tried to walk through it as thoroughly as possible and go slow so that everyone could follow along.
Dude that was like the best intro ever. I just subscribed. Keep doing videos. And your explanation of how a gas block works helped me BIG TIME. Freaking awesome explanation.
Thank you, I truly appreciate the words! Yes, I plan to do at least a video a week...the next is coming soon!
@@ObsidiansArms I try to stay off of CZcams but you're the only channel (I'm subscribed to) that I will get notifications for new videos. DEFINITELY want to support your work. With the quality of your work, this channel WILL blow up. Feel like I found a diamond in the rough!
@@pbarangu Ha! You're more optimistic than I am. I'm primarily doing it because I enjoy it. I have no expectations of grandeur whatsoever! That said, you'll never know how much your words motivate me to continue.
The intro sounded like I was listening to Barry White and the Love Unlimited Orchestra.
Great video and explanation. I think you meant to say, numbers on the SLR face toward the muzzle. 4:58
Great lighting
Very well done video on pinning the gas block and excellent recommendation on the Rockset products. Just saved me a large headache and lots of time.
You couldn’t have explained this any better!
Thank you for posting this video. I have actually done what you explain in your video but you cleared a few things up for me - thank you for that! You have a great way of explaining the process and your voice is exceptional and clear. The drill bit you used was miraculous compared to the ones I purchased for the job. I used your link and bought the drill bit you suggested immediately then came right back here to comment and subscribe. Thank you again and keep up the good work! With content like this you will be skyrocketing in no time. Your intro was great!
No problem, I'm glad it helped you understand the process!
Great video! I'm on my first AR build and this has helped me tremendously and I'm going to do it myself now!
It's been a little while, just checking to see how it turned out.
Very good video thank you.
Perfect!! Thank you! I'm on my second build with a BA barrel. The first one was a premium series and came with a dimpled and pin slot with it's own gas block. This BA barrel isn't even dimpled and BA does NOT provide that service if you are seeking it from them. So here I found myself. Again, thank you so much. Great instruction!
Excellent demonstration and explanation
Thank you Asim!
This is the smoothest video ever. Barry White got the voice to keep me calm. Lol. Nice break from the nerdy white guy videos.
Exactly what I was going to say! 🤣
Great video! I have to get one of those SLR jigs. I have mix of clamp ons and screw ons. The two long rifles are not dimpled and they came loose. Gun started performing differently so I took the hand-guard off and it was confirmed.
I will be dimpling and loctite’ing my screw adjustable block hence forth.
Your video automatically started playing and the intro hooked me. I know some of us take for granted that not even knows this information. Very informative video. You just got a subscriber. FYI of you heat rocksett in boiling water it will remove more easily.
Yeah baby- hey great vid and info. Thanks
Great job I think I can pull this off myself...well maybe if I watch it a few more time..but you explain the steps very well thank you
Entirely agree regarding the Rockset! But if you need to remove it, just soak it in boiling water for about half an hour. Just hot water might also work, but will probably require a few hours instead, but I’m not sure about that. It’s not the heat that does it, Rockset is water soluble so I think that the heat in the water is just there to quicken that up a bit. Rockset is *very* strong so I would definitively not rely on elbow grease to loosen anything that has been rocksetted in place. If the factory worked that applied it (if for example a factory applied flash hider) took too much you will probably end up damaging either the item or yourself in the process :P
Ice water works as well
Excellent tutorial! I've never built my own rifle and did not know right off the top of my head what "barrel dimpling" was. 5:00 into your vid and I knew exactly what you were talking about, what you were going to do and the importance of a set screw dimple in the barrel.
Now I have another bench project to tend to.
Thanks for the info. It is definitely doable by the average person.
Sorry for the late response, and thank you for the comment! Let me know if you dimpled a barrel since.
Thanks for the clear explanation. I've put together many lowers but the uppers have always been a little intimidating primarily due to the gas block installation.
Don't be! If you use quality parts and do your homework, the likelihood you have gas system issues is slim. Besides, there's nothing you can do to the rifle that can't be undone. Well... as long as you aren't trying to bore out the gas port! 😆
I used a Wilson Combat barrel in my first build and it was pre-dimpled. For my next build, I want to go light so I am using a Faxon Firearms .223 Wylde pencil barrel. It does not have a dimple so I was worried about the process. I know from experience just how important it is to get the gas block on perfectly. With the help of your video, I now feel confident that I can place the dimple correctly. So, thank you! And, awesome intro!
Thank you, and you absolutely can! I was a little nervous the first time I did this. It's easy, and fun if you enjoy working with tools...
Excellent information, excellent paced step by step instructions, you should put out more videos for those of us who want to work on our own arms.
Great demo. Well spoken, good camera work, well planned out
Thank you! Let me know how your barrel turns out if you're doing one anytime soon!
@@ObsidiansArms no plans as of yet but at least I’ll know what I’m doing
@@22cheapster Gotcha! Well I'm glad I was able to provide some useful information. 😊
I am doing my first upper build and your video is on point with instructions. The lighting and your pace was excellent.
I have subscribed. Please do more videos "we" need more voices like your in this area.
Man! Thank you! I've been wanting to try this but I've been afraid too lol. Excellent video and you have another subscriber!
Thank you, much appreciated! Yeah, it's not nearly as hard as people think it is al long as you have the right tools! Thank you, I look forward to posting more content very soon...
Excellent video! To the point no bullshit . Very easy to listen to. Thank you!
perfect video! I used the KAW valley jig, but - your instruction surpass any other instructions!! great video! 100% !
Thank you!
Excellent instructions Thanks
Really good video! Also love the bonus tip using rocksett vs red thread locker.
Yep, I put that $hit on everything! Not really, but it definitely works well for gas block set screws. I also use it on muzzle breaks. It will definitely require some elbow grease to remove though.
Great information.. easy to follow. Thank you!!
Really good vid describing the process. Thanks!
You're the best master...great 👍 clip and definitely I'll dimple my AR barrels .
Great Video Sir. One of the most straight forward and informative videos I have seen on gas block dimpling. Thank you.
This is a very well done video! Thanks!
Great, helpful and informative video! Thanks Hon!😊😁🤩
Sorry for the late reply, I'm glad it was helpful! Build anything interesting?
Fantastic video tutorial, my man!!
I am now a fan. Lol
Good video man
Great video , very professional, i feel a lot better about doing this after watching your video , definitely subscribed after watching!
Very detailed and to the point. My SLR .750 jig will be here in a few days.
Thank you!
I’m sad that new content isn’t being made. Fantastic video!
More is coming...
Great video, just what I was looking for. Thank you.
Great video! Thank you.🇺🇸
Great tips and instruction! Thank you for providing this tutorial 😊
That was a great video, Thanks
Nice job!
Great video. If the barrel is dimpled I do not use any thread lockers compound of any kind and have never had ANY issues with anything working free (and yes, my ar’s get plenty of use). If the barrel is NOT dimpled, I would absolutely suggest dimpling, lol.
have my sir jig on the way.. very good info
Great video. I am intimidated because I am about to do my first build
Extremely well done, you definitely earned my subscribing to your channel. Best on CZcams.
Nice tutorial . . . and nice Ballistic Advantage .308 barrel too. Recognized the logo on it. They have a reputation for excellent barrels at superb prices compare to others in the same class. I've got a complete upper from them. Just ordered a BA barrel for building another upper and bought a jig for dimpling it, albeit a different brand, but it's used the same way. Won't be using any thread locker though . . . military doesn't use it anywhere on the M27/M16/M4 or M14 variants, including those that don't have pinned barrels.
Yes, I've used Ballistic Advantage barrels in a few different builds and have always been happy with their quality. They offer a lot of value! Thread locker is optional, but highly recommended. "Mil-spec" ≠ best! It usually means the best overall deal we could get for the amount of money that's will to be spent at the time.
@@ObsidiansArms I carried Uncle Sam's small arms for 21 years. Always the best stuff, as made by the lowest bidder. The original Gene Stoner design concept was modularity and ease of maintenance by the end user and the unit armorer. It is simpler when compared to the M14, especially for the armorer. As a consequence, the tolerances aren't extreme precision. It was designed for combat use, not national or international match competition. There are a couple things one can do during assembling an upper to improve it some, but even those schemes have their limitations. Thanks.
Stylishly informative video.
Do the work. Congrats bro. I’m tune in.
Thank you Martell! I just checked your channel out and subscribed BTW...
@@ObsidiansArms Gratitude.
This is perfect, and I thank you very much for the info and the links! No more mystery.
I glad it helped! If you don't mind me asking, what did you build?
@@ObsidiansArms Building- 300 Blackout, 12" barrel, Aero up and down, and this new adjustable gas block from Riflespeed
@@malcolmpalm Sounds like a fun build! I have to check out that gas block...
@@ObsidiansArms re: gas block; I have high hopes
Great video thank you.
Use a piece of spaghetti noodle. Break off in barrel gas port. Put on gas block flip over so noodle indexes with gas block. Tighten set screws. Now if you want to dimple those, marks should show where set screws were. No fancy tools needed.
True, but jigs make it super fast. If you do multiple builds a year I’d take this over pasta any day.
Btw I love that your name matched the energy in your comment. Good shit
Great video on this. Thanks! Keep it going, please!
Fantastic instruction! Thank you so much for your professionalisms.
Easy man, great instructions 👊
Thank you! Let me know how it turns out for you.
Awesome video
Thank you! I hope you build something special!
@@ObsidiansArms .308 AR!
@@TylerJames-gf8ms That's exactly what this barrel went into!
I'm really digging the lighting. Anyways subbed!
Thank you! I didn't think anyone had really noticed! Photography is a big hobby of mine, so I tried to put in some effort.
@@ObsidiansArms and I can tell, the quality in your cinematography is amazing!
or you can do the Spaghetti noodle method or you can blow air through the gas tube then mark the spots. easy.
Thanks for this video my psa ar gas block wasn’t dimpled and shifted on me
Great tutorial. You didn’t go too fast as to have to rewind.
Very well presented
Excellent video.
Great channel bro let's go!!!!🙌🏾
The numbers on the jig face toward the muzzle, not away from it.
outstanding!!
Much appreciated Thank You
No problem, I hope it helps!
That was great! 👍
Quality video sir
Great explanation and great camera work. Did you drill any deeper after you cleaned out the initial metal shavings or was it deep enough at that point?
Thank you! Nope, it was deep enough. You want just enough depth so that the set screw will catch and prevent the gas block from rotating.
I would like to know where you got the jig .
Great video, thank you 🍺🍺🍺🍻🍻
No second dimple for the second set screw? Or why the numbers on the jig are important??
Great points!
I generally don't do a second dimple in case I want to change the gas block at some point in the future. The distance between set screws differers between manufacturer's. A single dimple along with Rocksett is more than sufficient for keeping the gas block from moving & rotating. That said, there is nothing at all wrong with creating a dimple for both screws.
The numbers on the jig represent the distance of the set screw holes. Again, different manufacturers use different distances. I mentioned that in the video as a passing thought, I should have made that more clear!
Does it matter which spacing numbers you use with the jig because my gas block spacing numbers are different from what's on the jig?
It does if you are going to do two dimples! If you are only going to do one dimple, it doesn't matter at all. Just make sure you dimple the one that is directly above the gas port. Also note, the jig has four different commonly used set screw distances.
What gas block and gas tube did you use in the video?
pretty sure its the Wilson combat bulletproof adjustable gas block, no longer available sadly. if you want a bulletproof adjustable gas block get a POF dictator, strike industries adjustable gas collar, or riflespeed.
Nice stuff man. That g96 smells great. I have the BRD dimpling jig. Just sub’d back.
Thank you, much appreciated! I don't think my skills on the bench are quite to your level yet, but I know a thing or two. Yeah, I love G96, I put that shit on everything.
@@ObsidiansArms I’m sending this video to Jay The Shooter so he can apply it to the SEV II Rifles. It’s an excellent tutorial.
What would you say the minimum requirements for a drill to do this with would be?
You stated you used a carbide drill bit. Do you know if Titanium would work as well?
It should be fine for this application since very little material should be removed, but I'd definitely prefer to use a carbide drill bit.
Thanks!
Who knew Barry White built gas guns?!?🤷♂️
Not sure if its necessary, I have an M1 Carbine but it looks simple enough.
This definitely wouldn't apply to the M1. It's for AR-15 / AR-10 patterned rifles.
Hated the music overlay while you was explaining things.
i will say when i dimple it does not come off.
What number do we use? 400, 425??
