Faux fur fix after dryer damage/how faux fur can be restored to a good looking condition/what to do?

  • My daughters beautiful jacket was messed up when I accidentally put it in the dryer for convenience.
    Learned the hard way and had to deal with this fur issue, she did not want to wear the fur part because of this.
    Searched online and found many things, all of them had combing in common. So I combed the faux fur hair with brush and comb. Used a bit of argon oil on it for shine, then used a lot of conditioner and put it in the warm water for couple of hours.
    Dried the fur combed it again and put argon oil again. It looked much better than before and in usable condition.

    Thanks for doing this video. I dried my faux fur, I was distracted, and threw it in the dryer. I was so livid; I always take it off before I wash my coat. Anywho, you've given me some hope of bringing it back!! I do need a new coat but I just need it to get through the rest of this winter. (waiting on clearance, hate paying full price) Fingers crossed! Thanks for the detailed video and instruction.

      I I made the same mistake, now it looks like burnt hair. I used my dog's fur brush and it had volume again, but not silky or soft like before. I hate myself for ruining my new jacket 😩

    You can use a high velocity pet dryer to renew faux fur as well.

  • @gritskennedy5007
    @gritskennedy5007 Před 2 lety +23

    It is burnt off and you can cut it off cut it shorter then wash and use fabric softener and use a cat fur metal brush the one that has many needles. Not hair conditioner this is plastic based not human not animal so use a fabric softener. To REPLACE THAT STRIP OF FUR WOULD COST 3DOLLARS OR LESS.

    • @ardentgailla
      @ardentgailla Před 2 lety +3

      I came to say what you said! Faux fur is usually a synthetic (plastic) fiber. Fabric softener will help with the detangling, but it is essentially melted together from the heat of the dryer.

      Do you know where can I replace it?

    • @tiyah101
      @tiyah101  Před rokem +2

      If you want to replace it contact the brand of your jacket/coat, most likely they have the best replacement if their is any.

      You can use a hairdryer and comb to straighten it out also. It's uncontrolled heat that causes these issues

    Maybe you could just get some new faux fur at the craft store...you are lucky enough your daughter's is detachable. My son's jackets will never be the same after a dryer trip,and all I could do was try to brush it, since it was attached. You can probably pick up a remnant cheaply.

    I’m going through this now and after combing I soaked the fur in liquid fabric softener over night. I’m washing it in cold water now. 🤞I hope it works and will add the oil you suggested after.

    • @lettingitgo
      @lettingitgo Před rokem +9

      @@RedWingsninetyone It went okay. I brushed and oiled but it still looked a bit funny, so I used clippers and shaved off the very ends that were singed off. Then brushed and oiled again and worked well. It’s just now the fur is shorter but the kids don’t mind because it’s much softer. Thanks!

    Can this work with a faux fur Pom Pom? I tried combing it out, but it didn’t make it better.

    • @tiyah101
      @tiyah101  Před 2 lety

      I think it should.

    • @tiyah101
      @tiyah101  Před 2 lety +1

      Pom poms have fur all around it so it might take a lot of work to see some results. My suggestion is to use appropriate size of comb for the thickness of it, if the fur is thin use a thin comb with tight space. If it has thick fur use a comb with bigger space gab in between. I hope it helps and works for you.
