Of course there are! I have an invisible disability. When I'm in trouble, many guys show up to help. Sometimes I ask for help in advance and nobody ever said no or was rude.

I'll be 62 tomorrow. I was sitting on the foot of the treadmill to readadjust my socks and braces because they were rubbing. A gentleman in his early 40's and a separate young lady in her early 30's stopped by to make sure I was OK. I smiled while thanking them and thought to myself how nice.

Afraid of not knowing/following gym etiquette. Not knowing what facilities are for customers or even worried that I won't know how to use them properly. If I'm ever able to reduce my anxiety, this will be a good thing to remember. Cheers.

Long ago when I was power lifting, I took a rest between sets, sitting on a bench next to me was a old grey man, he was in shape, well groomed and had 25 plates on for his bench. In playful banter, I teased him about getting old and not lifting much, he looked at me and smiled saying “ look around the gym, you see all the guys lifting as much they can for the guys?, well, I lift for the girls”. I didn’t really know what he meant until later, other times I saw him. He always had girls around him

I love how respectful and helpful the people at the gym were when he was pretending to be frail. That’s how it should work! They saw his friends “helping” and they just assisted what was already happening among them. That’s how humans should be. Kind and helpful. But when the guy realized he was handling the weights on his own, he let go like “He’s got this!” I’m sure they want to be like him when they get his age. The reveal was awesome!

That arrogant aura is a bunch of people trying to steel their confidence to push weight they may fail with. You have to keep that confident almost arrogant anger to push through hard and difficult workouts. Because if you fail, you still need to be confident enough and self assured to try again next week.

The workout group are mostly kind people. After I had my son I felt so insecure being 70lbs over weight but the ladies helped me find good classes and one even bought me supplements and gloves🥰🤩 we still workout 21 yrs later.
