First tutorial of 2021I really hope that you all had as good a time last night as you could given the circumstances. I also trust that many of you will manage to get out soon and wet a line wether that be Stillwater, River or Loch.
Using barbless hooks for 99% of my fishing very occasionally whilst fishing NZ Style the tippet attaching the nymph to the bend in the hook can come away. There are a couple of fixes for this simply tie the dry to a dropper on your leader or you can add an attachment point on the fly.
In this video I show you how to do the latter, you can use a micro ring which I have done in the past. They are expensive though and this is a much cheaper option especially when you loose as many flies as me!

    Happy New Year Lindsay.
A nice fly and great alternative to the standard klink for dry & dropper. Really well presented too!
Have you used the size 10 hook for demo purposes or is this the size you would actually fish?

Happy New Year Nicholas. Yes, I would fish it at this size if presenting the nymph was the primary goal. When I am getting fish coming to the dry more I will drop down sometimes as small as #14.

Clever idea Lindsay. I've seen the klink and dinks and thought that they were a bit clumsy. Your idea looks a lot neater. Thanks for the tips.🎣👏👍

Just hit the thumbs up icon folks! It really helps Lindsay and all other Creators keep their channel valid.
Nobody makes a pile of money at this unless they do it full time, but every penny helps and I do mean pennies.
If somebody donates £1 it takes the place of ten likes, that is important for someone who is producing good quality videos.
Tyers like David McPhail are selling personal collection items on eBay go keep his channel open and I think that is a shame. I don't think any creator who makes useful content for us, should be selling personal things to keep teaching us what we enjoy so much.
Simple subscribe then thumbs up or down. If you do a thumbs down let the creator know what he or she can do so that you will enjoy their work more.
Either way CZcams does not discriminate, up or down doesn't matter, it shows interaction.

Well done Lindsay, for a Scotsman to be able to tie a fly on Ne’erday is amazing, I usually wait until I’ve had a bellyfull of steak pie, terrific dressing mate, my choice of sighter would be UV Chartreuse, and the use of mono as a loop is very economical. Thanks again for another great video. regards and a happy new year . Jimf

    Happy New Year Lindsay!!!
Great idea on loop!!! I’ve really gotten into adding snowshoe rabbit to all my CDC flies either as an over/under wing, depending on how I want my wing to sit. I’ll use the removed fluff as the dubbing on the head. It takes more time than synthetics though. Anyway thanks for starting off the new year with a great idea and great looking fly. Wishing you and your family all the the best.

Nice fly Lindsay and the loop idea is sound. Me however, when I do get to fish, I only fish one fly at a time so I’ll leave the loop out. Thanks for that dude and welcome to 2021.

Gee's yesterday I was thinking about using some small opal mirage tinsel for ribbing on a hare's ear nymphs that I tie and an elk wing parachute caddis I tie. It's a fly that works very very well during the Mothers Day Hatch. I like that little loop for the dropper. As for Veevus 30D GSP, that has become my favorite thread these days, strong and little bulk and it takes sharpie colors well. I will be doing a number of larger dries like this for use as an indicator dropper set up. Bone Dry is great stuff. I think the fishing braid line would work well for this application if costs are a factor. A 6 to 10-pound test should be fine. tippet rings are pretty cheap and a fly used as an indicator, you don't need many.

Hi George, thanks for watching. I fish quite tree lined rivers and loose quite a few rigs so the old micro rings soon start adding up.

NIce nymph, great idea for the loop of tippet, do you tie directly to the loop, or to the hook through the loop?

    • @lindsayiflyfish
      @lindsayiflyfish  Před 3 lety +1

The tippet connecting the nymph goes directly to the loop Lee.
