    The fact that we're even asking this is why Sony isn't comfortable making those "risky/weird" games people claim to want from them.
    There's always the narrative that these games are lesser than the big, story-driven single-player player games that they're known for. They're "not worth full price".

    • @JerryFlowersIII
      @JerryFlowersIII Před 22 dny +1

      I think it's the opposite. Gamers have been shown that the industry has let go of platformers in a big way. It used to be the icon of games during the first few generations, starting from NES, but then largely abandoned. Only ones left are Nintendo, who never gave it up and continued to make them premium product, and the random indie titles here and there, releasing to various degrees of quality. Without the Nintendo Seal a platformer is a big question mark for people, an unknown.

    I would gladly pay $70 for Astrobot. Playroom exuded so much fun and charm and I've been waiting for them to do a full Non-VR release.
    The game will eventually go on sale for people that are deterred by the price initially

    It seems to be a big platformer. US$70 is okay; eventually, it will go on sale. It's not like you need to buy it immediately to avoid getting spoiled.

    CZcams ratios mean nothing when discerning game reception. Concord had a lot of negative bias going into it whereas Astro does not, people don’t have reason to dislike Astro unlike Concord, not even PSVR2 owners like me since we know the lack of VR clearly isn’t from Asobi.

    39$ is still 60$ in Quebec, 60 is 80 and 70 is 90$. The US are not the only market and 70$US games in CAD are 89$, with all the taxes, a new game here it's 107$. I understand why people here will not want to spend 107$ on this type of game. I will, but I'm really in a good place money-wise, which is not the case for everybody/families.

    • @YoctoYotta
      @YoctoYotta Před 23 dny +1

      Current currency conversion is $70 USD = $95.57 CAD. If games there cost $89 CAD, sounds like you’re getting a slight deal over the U.S. if anything. The taxes do make it hurt more, but a lot of the US also has pretty hefty sales tax around 10% so a lot of people are paying $77 USD for a game, which is $105 CAD at current rates. Our countries are united in taking us for every penny we got 😅 cheers!

    Realistically Mario is the only platformer IP that can gain mass success at full price, any others can’t regardless of quality, and the Astro IP definitely doesn’t have cache anywhere close to Mario, Sackboy is much closer and even he can’t compete. $50 would be the sweet spot for the most amount of success possible, even if the product/quality is $70, but I can see Sony pushing for $60.

    0:55 I am with Tim a bit on Astro Bot.
    I don't think the design has legs to be super popular like your Marios or your Sonics or even Crash.
    I don't see a design that is so in the realm of ROBOT being that appealing.
    There's a sense of over-complexity.

    I love a good platformer, but AB in this trailer reminds me of the Clank missions in the Ratchet and Clank games, which to me were the least satisfying parts of the gameplay loop. The newer games let you skip them because they could feel so tedious.
    As far as console mascots go Id prefer if they stuck with Sackboy. Maybe they were aiming for Eva from Wall-E but it feels closer to a living Iphone or the bad guys from IRobot and Portal. I guess theres room for more than one mascot like Mario, and Pikachu

    • @talalahsan6824
      @talalahsan6824 Před 23 dny +2

      EVERY thing in your entire LIFE has increased in price because of inflation, 60$ in 2002 is about 80$ now so it's natural games would increase like they did from 40$ to 50$ back in the day. If a game does not have MTX like this one they would literally be making LESS per sale then they made 10 years ago .. learn how money works and then make these comments.
