In this tutorial I show you how to use the 3D camera in Adobe After Effects to create a Depth of Field (DOF) effect (or depth blur). This can help make your animations look more impressive and realistic by blurring object that are further away than your focus distance.
We explain what aperture means, f-stop and focus distance, and walk you through the process of animating the focus distance with keyframes.

9 years, I have avoided complex tools like this in after effects for 9 years till I randomly stumbled on this video and now it suddenly makes sense. Thank you for explaining things so easily I’m grateful.

For Maya renders/conpositing as well as E3D. I use BCC’s DOF plugin though to minimize the halo on 3D models.

I was trying to do this with Cinema 4D on, not knowing that wasn't possible, I wish Adobe made that clear. Thanks for the video!

Only your video gave steps which I followed and realize that my Ae does not have the "Enable Depth of Field" box to be checked off or switched on. How do I check off that box if it is inactive?
