    Mason Rudolph showed us that the issue wasn't necessarily the offensive coordinator. Mason came in and played well, but the only problem with Mason Rudolph was that he couldn't lead the team when he was the starter. Kenny could not step up and deliver on consistent bases. Pittsburgh had to take risks and go all out, and I'm glad they did!!! The Steelers are in a good position now. Let's see how Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph perform on their respective teams.

When you start THINKING you are more important than the team money wise and statue wise...it is time to go. I wanted to see Kenny in Smith's system until he frowned in the face of adversity. I lost so much respect for him after he refused to compete. The only QB worth keeping after that tantrum was Mason. I've seen reports that he's competing against Malik Willis for the 2 spot in Tennessee, but I think he'll be competing with Will Levis for the 1 spot by the end of camp. Pickett is an offseason/preseason super hero, but I'm not holding my breath unless he pops off in a regular season game.

    It wasn't even Kenny's fault that Tomlin kept Canada around, and in turn, Canada continued to NOT develop any of the talent he had at his disposal. This was way bigger than just Kenny not developing. This was a waste of player development and time of valuable resources given.

    • @arosssr757
      @arosssr757 Před 2 měsíci +7

      While Canada was arguably the worst OC in history, he had absolutely nothing to do with this dude missing wide open receivers all year long. The OC has nothing to do with him underthrowing Calvin Austin, matched up on a linebacker, with no help over top. He missed way too many wide open receivers to completely give him a pass because of Canada.

    • @mike2687
      @mike2687 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@arosssr757 - I wasn't a fan of drafting any QB from that class, however, the OC has a ton to do with the QB performance. Admittedly, Canada didn't meet much with KP meaning there was no back and forth of what the QB likes and is comfortable with. Per the accuracy, comfortability in the pocket had a good amount to do with that and I'd put more blame on not having an OL that can be trusted--when the OL can't be trusted, the QB often feels rushed even when there is plenty of time.
      Keeping Canada into the 2023 season was a huge mistake.

  • @TripleDoublePSN
    @TripleDoublePSN Před 2 měsíci +1

    It's obvious there were some behind the scene issues with Pickett. I never believed he had the right mentality for the Pittsburgh QB position. After his rookie season, Kenny was asked if he felt that he was a Pittsburgh guy now, and he replied, "I'll always be a jersey guy." That said it all for me. Big Ben felt betrayed by Ohio when Cleveland passed on him in the draft and came to Pittsburgh with the mentality that he will make them regret it and he did.

  • @mindbusiness9734
    @mindbusiness9734 Před 2 měsíci

    Kenny's performance was bench-worthy which is where players who need as much growth as he does belongs. Kenny showed improvement in the interception area, but in doing so he threw for 400+ less yards and less touchdowns than his year prior. He went 7 out of 12 games without a single touchdown and he had DJ, GP, JW, CAIII, and Pat. His performance regressed from the previous year...which means he showed no growth in the areas the Steelers needed him to show growth in (touchdowns). Kenny's QBR dropped 15.5 points. No one cares if you can play great in the 4th quarter if you suck for three (3) quarters against lame teams. When Mason got the rock he dominated from the very beginning by getting the lead and extending the lead.
    Deke...it's not the injuries. Kenny is not that good. He is, however, a legit game manager. Someone you bring in late after you have sealed the victory or your team is getting smashed really bad and you want to give your 1's a break. Which is why Mitch is a permanent backup. Nothing wrong with being a backup. Lots of players have made a living as career backups. I just hate that we wasted a #1 pick on him thinking we outsmarted 19 other teams. 😂
    We had to bring in some QBs to fill the room. I guess Kenny thought Omar Khan was going to bring back Dennis Dixon and Bubby Brister to compete. Kenny is way out of touch to think that he would last as the starter and that the Steelers would accept his dismal performances. Deke don't forget that we won most of our games because of how well our defense played and because of Jaylen & Najee...not Kenny. Kenny was a liability...not an asset. In my heart of hearts, I think Kenny believes his luck had run out and that he knows deep down that he's not a starter. Otherwise, he would've either stayed or went to a team that didn't have a proven QB1.
    The reason Mason isn't still in Pittsburgh is because he knows he's always been better than Kenny and he has already dealt with the outcome of the coaches decision. He was NOT going to go through that scenario again and the only way to know that Steelers would not snub him again, would be to "Show him the money!" This would mean the Steelers are serious about Mason's capabilities and not just throwing peanuts to watch him compete against lesser competition in Kenny Pickett. Sad the way they treated Mason and now Justin may go through what Mason went through his first couple years with Ben.

    If you can’t move a safety with a pump fake because your hands are tiny, then forget playing QB in the NFL. His arm strength is subpar at best. If you do not have a great arm, then you better be extremely accurate. He isn’t.
    Moving on from him was a wise choice. Pickett was a third rounder at best. Colbert reached big time.

    I thought Kenny was smart but he went from playing behind an old quarterback who could be possibly washed up, could get hurt (age is a factor there), and at the very least from whom he could have learned a lot, to “competing” with Jalen Hurts. And he did this just when he finally would have gotten a real OC, or at least not the worst one in the NFL.
    And he was looking at possibly playing behind a beefed up offensive line and play action with a good run game.
    He could hit every single throw perfectly in OTAs with twice the velocity he had in Pittsburgh and there’s zero chance he starts over Hurts in Philadelphia.

    Personally speaking, I don't see how that question could be answerable. None of us were in that room when Kenny put his foot down. What did he say to get booted? If I was him I would have said something myself. You want guys to defend themselves and their work. He very well could have gone overboard. I don't know what Khan's threshold is. Khan seems very affable, but for him to pull the trigger on a trade and make the statement he did says to all of us that a line was crossed. If I were to guess he probably trashed the decision to sign Russ in such a way that it was viewed as an insult to Khan doing his duties. I think Kenny has ability, but two things stick out in my mind that hampered him. Decision making and accuracy. So if he did go overboard in how the average fan would view it as if we had been party to the argument. I think its safe to say that his accuracy might have been improved, but his decision making is chronic.

    We definitely moved on too early. He should have been given the start as soon as he was healthy last year. Not giving him the start was a vote of no confidence which Kenny didn’t deserve. He was much better under the worst OC of all time than either Mitch or Mason were. We moved on from him in week 16, and we shouldn’t have. We blew it.
    And don’t listen to any Steelers fan who disagrees with this if they thought Malik Willis was a better QB coming out of college.

    KP and. Mason were both mismanaged by the coaches. if you communicate with KP what to expect and that he would have been the QB w=eventually he probably would not have wanted out. this falls on the coaches. so he goes on to ball out n has nfl career the egg is on our face.

    Kenny was bad. You guys are high. Why you think the receivers quit running on plays etc. Kenny was fracking horrible. Worse QB in NFL history.

    We screwed over Kenny Pickett so bad I'm glad he wanted out of Pittsburgh. The way we treated him with Matt Canada and expected him to be Ben Roethlisberger right away was just crazy. I would want to get off the Steelers team immediately

      What about Mason who had the longest Tenure under Canada, Made Kenny look like the horrible Qb he was.
      Kenny wanted out because he isn't beating anyone for a #1 Qb spot. Save the embarrassment as a 1st round bust, And ran elsewhere to be a backup.
      Kenny lovers want to Blame Canada for Kenny's horrible play, But there was a lot that had nothing to do with Canada. Kenny just sucked.
      I blame the Steelers organization for way over drafting a Qb with only 1 good year of college play. Over the duration, He wasn't a good college Qb either.
