Billy Duffy is such an amazing guitarist. He lays down this sweet rhythm stuff and plays this amazing lead over it. Been a fan for a long time but have been seriously binge listening for a couple months.
Outstanding video! Thanks so much for posting. This is my favorite cut from The Cult and I believe the bassist and Billy’s riffs compliment so nicely with the drums! Ian is so mellifluous, just so soul stirring! ☝️🙌🔥✌️
Oh wow, you must've been right next to Billy's monitor... You've captured the guitar perfectly. It's a good video for anyone wanting to learn the guitar part to this song.
He's in line with the cabs! Must have been loud! It's strange that Billy doesn't change the A to an Asus4 at 1:18 and then back to the A because that little change (along with the percussive rhythmic nature of the part) is the reason I love this song so much. It's interesting ear candy... like the Cadd9 in "Sweet Soul Sister"... you just don't hear chords like that in rock much.
@@StratMatt777 I kinda figured as much. I think chords are more powerful and aren't really given the credit as being "lead" guitar as they should be. This song is a good example of how rhythm/ lead is valid in other styles besides blues. I definitely like your point about the percussive nature of this song. Spot on. That's what gives it a bit of an anthem feel to it. Rare, great, bad ass chords. Smoky, spooky, demanding, almost mournful lead. I love it. It's hard to find a video that isn't solely focused on Billy in regards to Soul Asylum. I noticed that last night.
Awesome, thanks for posting the video.
Baddest ass song The Cult ever wrote!!!

Sonic Temple is such a brilliant album,if not their best.

@@StratMatt777 Nicely put. I agree, it's unique. A bit like an anthem.
@@bon6461Thank you! And I realize that I mispoke/typed... I should have said that on the recording he follows the Amaj with an Asus4 then an Asus2.
