- From the inception of Chicken Manchurian to Chinese Bhel, Mumbai's tryst with Chinese cuisine has been a flavourful journey. With Chinese immigrants settling in the erstwhile Bombay presidency in the late 19th century, the city not only adopted new flavour profiles of a foreign civilisation but also lent its culinary sensibilities and thus helped develop a cuisine that the country affectionately calls "Indo-Chinese".
Slurrp presents Chopsticks & Curry, a history of Chinese cuisine in Bombay and its evolution over the years.

It's incredible to see how he blended different culinary influences, adapted to local tastes, and created a culinary sensation with China Garden. His commitment to innovation and catering to diverse preferences has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the Indian restaurant scene. Superbly done! Thoroughly enjoyed learning about the history of Chinese cuisine in Bombay. Kudos to the entire team!
Always loved the histories of food. It's the sweetest way to integrate multiple cuisines. Literally amazing ❤
Thank you. So glad you enjoyed it. Oral food narratives in India should be mainstream. We just have too much to dig in there... it's a bottomless pit of stories...and different versions of the same stories too! ❤
Beautiful. Extremely well crafted way of storytelling, from Beggar chicken to bhakarwadi. 👍
I'm humbled. Thank you 🥹💛
