    Thank you so much for introducing that rivet set. I personally never knew it existed. My welding skills isn’t so great and there are a couple things I want to do on my bike, that set just gave me the possibility of doing what I want to do and have a good result. Thanks again. I will be purchasing that tool.

    Rivnuts are fantastic. Now that you have a the tool you are sorted. I would also note that I have seen other bikers secure their lowjack, electrics, etc.. behind a battery box or whatever using torx security bolts. Even if a thief comes with tools the security bolts may stump them.

  • @finerasGfX
    @finerasGfX Pƙed 5 lety +1

    These are commonly made of alluminium and I asume yours are too.
    You are fitting them to a steel frame without any means of corossionprotection. Thats gonna kill the frame pretty quick....
    I'drill them out and spray something in there if I were you.

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  Pƙed 5 lety

    Great video to show how these work, is it worth putting some silicone on there before crimping the riv nut up, Stop moisture ingress?

    • @Kevin_Aus
      @Kevin_Aus Pƙed 5 lety

      They way that these work silicone should not be necessary if they are properly installed. The metal of the rivnut seals up against the frame as shown in this video: czcams.com/video/dkPhGIaPCVs/video.html . It might be worthwhile to paint the inside of that drilled hole with a rust guard or similar to protect the exposed bare metal.

    I'm building my electrics tray now. Is there a problem with welding it in rather than screwing it in? Is there too much flex in the frame for a weld, or was this just your preference?

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  Pƙed 2 lety +1

      It’s just a personal preference thing I didn’t really see the point in welding it in but if you want to do that you can 👍

    • @rodwatson8732
      @rodwatson8732 Pƙed 2 lety

      @@CafeRacerGarage The only point I see in welding is better weather proofing for the electrics, but the way you built yours with the lip over the top of the frame rails would take care of that, I think. I did buy a nut riveter though. Neat tool, that. Thanks as always, Dan. You really do make great content.

    Drilling into the frame ...mmm...not somthing i would do. You could have used another method like tabs or clamps on the bottom of the tray that would wrap around the frame when the screws are tightend.

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  Pƙed 5 lety

      You are right there are many different ways to get the same results 👍😁

    • @CafeRacerGarage
      @CafeRacerGarage  Pƙed 5 lety

      You are right and drilling too many holes into a frame is a bad idea, I've added a lot of strength to this subframe if you compare it to the factory one so I am definitely lot worried about the extra holes. Welding a nut or tab is better If you have that option :)

  • @tompeter7326
    @tompeter7326 Pƙed rokem

    drilling two 9 mm holes into the the upper frame weakens the strength and is definitely forbidden for good reason.
