    This special aired on TNT in 1999, and I will NEVER forget it because Johnny performing at this show was a suprise. He had been hospitalized just prior to this and rumors were flying that he was on his death bed. I know he was very ill, but he lived another 4 years after this! I was a little suprised at his appearance here because I had seen him in concert just 2 years before and he looked vibrant and healthy. There will NEVER be another Johnny Cash. I miss him terribly.

    It is touching and courageous that Johnny performed that night. It was said that Johnny spent the entire tribute concert downstairs in his dressing room that night and that it was a true toss up about whether he would get on stage. He had not performed in more than a year due to his autonomic neuropathy. It was similar to Sammy Davis. Jr performing with Gregory Hines at his 60 anniversary special in 1990. Davis was in the final stages of his cancer and had just gone through his chemo that same day. His wife gave him his tap shoes though she said it would be ok if he was not strong enough. We all know how that ended. RIP both giants of music.

Johnny felt very bad at this time but he decided to go on stage and sing . Aand at the very moment he went on stage he felt better and full of energy and can sing as never. You can hear it in his voice , it sounds like in his best moment! He was such a great artist and singer!

    • @snoxbox
      @snoxbox Před 10 lety +1

      now don't be narrow-minded, there is good music out there, just because it's not to your liking doesn't mean it's trash. Otherwise you are too one dimensional..

    • @briandd27
      @briandd27 Před 10 lety +4

      Modern "Country Music" isn't the same as it used to be. For some odd reason Country Music nowadays has a little bit of rap and pop in it. That's horrible. Main stream music is horrible. I don't call that good music. But I guess we all have our likes and opinions. Call me one-dimensional if you like.

    • @briandd27
      @briandd27 Před 10 lety +4

      Furthermore, originality is a rarity these days. Hardly anything is original anymore.

    • @snoxbox
      @snoxbox Před 10 lety

      nothing against Johnny cash, I think he's a fine singer, but most of the songs were either written by someone else or sung by someone else. It's a question on how it appealed to his audience otherwise all karaoke singers would be big stars like he was.

    • @Alex16993
      @Alex16993 Před 10 lety +8

      *****
      Actually that's not true. He wrote about 500 songs himself. "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Walk The Line" are only two of them. For example Elvis has never written one single song on his own...
