    Holly and Morgan take to the beautiful roads and paths wearing the Nike React Infinity Runs, taking in the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island, all while testing Holly's fitness and pace to be ready for a 1:50 half marathon. That's 8:23 per mile. Does Holly have what it takes?

    Ok this is wierd: As an older guy (50), I've never been able to run a 5k any quicker than 36 minutes. On Monday, honest to God, I timed myself by my usual app, and I ran it in 29 minuites! When I finished, I was stupified, and still don't know how I did that!

      @@Morfeusm I'll confess something: I usually don't do a lot of stretching (if any) before, but this time I stretched a bit, foam rolled a bit, and did leg swings and knee hikes. Surely not all that accounts for 7 whole minutes?

    Just walked a half marathon on Monday! Most I’ve ever done before that was eight miles. My left Calf is still a little sore, but I’m proud I made the distance?
    Is it better to run a shorter (but closer) distance first to gauge reaction?

    • @TheRunExperience
      @TheRunExperience  Před 4 lety +3

      Congrats! Anytime we put our body through a big shock, it will be a little extra sore and tender so the calf pain in that respect would be "normal." What we find is that if you build yourself up with shorter distances, done more consistently, it's not as big a shock, the body recovers and stays healthy, and you continue to progress and build!

    During a race would you stop and do air squats and walk it out a little bit or is that only in training? Are you adding those pauses in to your overall pace?

    • @TheRunExperience
      @TheRunExperience  Před 4 lety +2

      Good question Joy. It depends on your fitness and goals for the race. The longer it is and/or the less time focused you are for it, adding little breaks in like a few squats helps to re-set your body for better running and a better experience. Hope that helps!

      Hey Roman! They are very cushioned but in a different way than the higher stack Hokas are. They spread the cushion through the width so you do feel closer to the ground, but still softly lifted. Does that make sense?

      Could you work on your endurance for hills by breaking up your workout into hill repeats? 10 x 30 seconds hiking or jogging up the hill with 2 minutes rest between? The key to adapting to hill running is getting used to maneuvering incline (with the right form) AND being able to breathe during the effort.

      @TheRunExperience  Před 4 lety +3

      Hey Nadine! Great question. I love running and strength training equally, so I make it a point to get the most out of both by doing each one to help the other if that makes sense? I find that my squats help strengthen my running and I find that my running helps me last a lot longer aerobically during a crossfit-style strength circuit or HIIT workout. I do 3-4 strength sessions a week and ~3 runs. LOTS of stretching and accessory work.
